  1. Hi John, The reason you cannot install apps from the Play Store is that your television runs on LG's iteration of webOS which is nothing to do with Android.
  2. The browser included with LG webOS is unique to the OS and as such is not compatible with Chrome, Firefox etc.
  3. As per this article: https://www.theverge.com/2016/3/8/11178976/microsoft-skype-for-tv-support
  4. Being a signage display the device does not appear to run fully blown webOS but is compatible with SuperSign-w lite & SuperSign-c and as such has no general web browsing capabilities. It would seem that it relies on an external source for any input, so you would need to connect a computer to it to be able to browse the web. I think you can load web content on to it but not browse it live, not really something I have investigated before. Perhaps something low cost like a Raspberry Pi would be the way to go. http://www.lg.com/uk/business/information-display/digital-signage/lg-49SE3KB http://www.lg.com/global/business/information-display/software/lg-supersign-software/supersign-w
  5. Hi, This seemingly is a common problem with some webOS, beyond checking your firmware is up to date I'm afraid to say there appears there is nothing you can do. I find with YouTube it happens infrequently but especially when I am flicking back and forth amongst different sections. How often is it happening for you?
  6. Actually YouTube will display videos in HTML5 is your application/device supports it. So the YouTube app if created by themselves either renders HTML5 or they have baked in Flash support, I am going to take a guess at it being the former.
  7. Hi, The official line for LG is that they are not the ones responsible for producing apps for the webOS platform, that it down to the content providers themselves. See this thread: That said you can make your voice heard directly with LG using their contact form: https://www.cvent.com/d/hfqr24 Make sure you use the option so you get them to reply, make sure you also point out you found the contact form via this forum. Also email Iflix and ask them when they will produce an app and if you get any feedback post it here and even send it to LG.
  8. Using the official LG contact form, and importantly asking for a reply, I enquired why there is not HBOGO app available for webOS as there was for NetCast. A screen-shot of their reply is attached. The short answer is that it is HBO's (or any other provider's) responsibility to create an app for webOS, and that as the consumer we should approach said provider to make our needs known. However, LG will pass such requests through their internal structure so that the company can see what is being requested, so maybe they will then work with the content provider or possibly do it themselves. The upshot is make your voice heard directly to both LG and any content provider you want to produce an app for webOS, and that the forum is just a forum and we cannot expect LG to read our outpourings. If I was to submit a question again I would include the fact that I am a member of this forum and that many members have the same requests as myself. This may then get the forum in to LG's sight-line, because who knows if they are even aware it exists.
  9. Currently, no.
  10. Developing apps takes time, money, staff and inter-business cooperation. LG may not have the staff, be it in numbers or technical expertise, to create all the apps that people want. There may not be cooperation from content providers which holds up development, refusing to open up APIs or there may be licensing limitations. Many content providers are still wedded to producing said content with Adobe Flash which LG does not support and has no intention of supporting as it is a dying medium and Adobe constantly alters the playing field. It does seem that some people do not do their due diligence before purchasing a product to actually see if it fulfils their requirement, but instead complain after the fact. HBOGO is available for some Samsung devices, so kudos to them. However I will admit that it is strange that HBOGO is not available on webOS as on LG's previous SmartTV system NetCast it was. There is a link on the forum for proposing & showing your support for apps directly to LG, plus emailing service providers to let them know that you want an app is always a way to go as well.
  11. Thanks for the clarification. I am guessing then that the same level of content is not available through the Prime app, or does a subscription through Amazon cost more than direct from HBO?
  12. This would depend on the model you have.
  13. I am confused, if you are using HBOGo on your laptop why can you not uses those credentials in Prime?
  14. Flash is unlikely to ever be supported by LG, it is a terrible fast fading technology better to badger sites that use it to upgrade to more modern technology. As for more apps there is a link on this site that will take you to LG's suggestions page where you can ask for specific apps to be created.
  15. Yes it is a unwelcome 'feature' for which there does not seem to be a cure for. If it is not happening too often then I am afraid you will just have to put up with it. If it is happening regularly (like every couple of minutes) then try resetting the TV back to factory defaults and re-install your apps.
  16. I have the Prime Video installed so it is available for LG webOS, where are you based and what model is your TV?
  17. webOS has never had anything to do with Android, so those apps will not install. There are several tutorials on YouTube to do with installing Kodi on webOS that may be on help, here is on to get you started:
  18. Might be a little extreme but have you tried resetting it?
  19. Do any of these help?
  20. The last version listed on LG's support page for your model is 05.05.55 is this the version you are running? If this is newer version to what you have installed and it will not perform an over-the-air update you would need to download it and install it manually. Unfortunately LG have no control of what new technologies another manufacturer will release so are unable to fully future proof their products. Basically store representatives will tell you anything if they think it will convince you to purchase an item, again they have no idea what new technologies will be release in the future and whether or not it will be compatible with your TV. Here are a couple of links to articles that may help you: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinmurnane/2017/06/25/ps4-pro-troubleshooting-how-to-display-4k-hdr-on-an-lg-tv/#752fb10d6dda https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarcher/2016/11/28/lg-rolls-out-tv-upgrade-to-fix-ps4-pro-connection-woes/#76d18fd41142 If any of the above is useful please let the rest of the forum know.
  21. Assuming that you have already installed other apps on the TV, if Amazon Prime is not available in the store then it is probably not available for your geographical area. If you have not installed any apps so far then watch this YouTube video:
  22. Currently the only way I know of getting HBO GO on webOS is via the Amazon Prime app: https://help.hbogo.com/hc/en-us/articles/204872107-Watching-HBO-on-Amazon-Prime I am not sure whether you have to have an actual Amazon Prime Video account as well, or if you can just install the app and use the HBO GO part of it. Sadly so many sites and services rely on Adobe's Flash, which is a constantly changing environment, instead of moving to newer more stable platform agnostic technologies. Many manufacturers just do not want to have to keep playing catchup with Adobe.
  23. Exactly which software version are you running? Is is the same version that is available on the unit's support page: http://www.lg.com/eg_en/support/support-product/lg-55LH595V If it is and things are running badly then I would suggest a full system reset and fresh install of all your required apps.
  24. The lack of FLAC is a bit odd as it is 'free software' and as such can be implemented without licensing costs. VOBSUB seem to be more of an issue. Unlike a .srt subtitle file which are plain text, the .idx & .sub files of VOBSUB are a combination of text and graphics. Perhaps LG do not want to not want to spend the time and resources developing a webOS system for what is essentially a Windows platform solution. That said you could use the LG suggestions form to nudge them in to action, a link to which can be found elsewhere on the forum.
