2018. LG TVs by the date of release and initial prices?
chupo_cro posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
As I was researching LG 55SK8500PLA I saw the prices a few months ago were at about €2000 and they are at about €1000 at the moment so I tried to find out the initial prices at the date of release but I couldn't find even the date of release :-/ Is there any database with dates of release and initial prices of 2018. LG TVs? -
Wiring of a USB Y-Connector
chupo_cro replied to jiayo's topic in LG TV and LG webOS Smart TV Discussion
You have to connect all negative contacts (black wire) together so the PC has the same reference voltage for the data line as the DVD writer. You can even connect all the red contacts together too - that way the maximum current the DVD writter could draw would be 2.1 A (from power adapter) + 0.5 A (from the laptop). That is if your laptop has USB 2.0 connector. If it has USB 3.0 then it would be 2.1 A (from power adapter) + 0.9 A (from the laptop) . -
No, everything is OK with both the router and internet (tried several routers). After many tests I discovered the problem occurs if and only if the LG TV is the only device in the network connected through wifi. If there is at least one more device connected through wifi then there is no problem with dropping wireless speed to exactly 1.00 Mb/s. That means, if there is a laptop or a mobile phone connected to internet through wifi then even LG TV's wifi works at full speed. But after disconnecting all other devices or in the case when there is no other wifi device in the network - then LG TV's wifi speed drops to exactly 1.00 Mb/s and stays at that value until some other wifi device establishes a connection. In the meantime I started having problems with DLNA. Everything worked without problems for more than a year, both Serviio and LG Smart Share programs worked just fine. But since a few weeks ago the TV joins DLNA network very rarely. Sometimes LG Smart Share program can see the TV but the TV doesn't see the PC. In that case I can start the movie from the PC with Play to... even when there is no LG Smart Share icon in the TV's Smart Share menu. Sometimes Serviio icon appears in Smart Share menu after 10 or more restarts of Serviio service and then I can watch a full movie but that is very annoying. I've tried all firewall/UPnP/port 'tricks' but still the same. fw : 05.05.01 webOS: 1.4.0-2525(afro-ashley)

I have accounts on both speedtest.net&testmy.net and the results (up, down, PING) are always exactly the same (I always run both measurements one after another). However, since speedtest.net test is very short (downloads only about 15 MB), testmy.net with bigger chunks gives more accurate average speed. It besides gives the control over the size of the test chunk and displays more info (TID graph). I have meanwhile connected the TV thru the LAN cable and the speed was exactly as measured via PC. My wireless LAN speed seems to be for some reason limited to 1.00 Mb/s (my modem is in bridge mode and I am using Internet Connection Sharing to enable internet access to the TV). I can see 1000s of people have the same problem (Google: wlan only 1mbps) so it is not related to the LG.

Can you, please, check if there is Total Power On Time entry in the About menu of 5.00.20? After installing 5.00.15 the Total Power On Time info is not there any more.

5.00.15 available (Croatia, 42LB650V), I like the new UI but browser 'Out of memory' error remained :-( 'Swap instead of Move in Antenna mode' bug remained: http://www.lgwebos.com/topic/1685-programme-manager-swap-instead-of-move-in-antenna-mode/ BTW, although my download speed measured via PC is 8.8 Mb/s, the speed measured via LB650V is only slightly above 1.0 Mb/s. Can anybody confirm this as 'normal'? I measured the speed here: http://testmy.net/ (Manual Test Size --> 50 MB, took about 360 s)

What was the possible reason to implement the condition so there has to be at least 40 GB of free HD space to be able just to start the recording?? I made 2 partitions on my 160 GB hard disk - the first one of 40 GB assigned to Time Shift/Recording and the second one to store the movies - and now I cannot anymore start the immediate recording because it says 'There must be minimum 40 GB of free space to start the recording'!! My question #01 is: Why in the h... would I've been forced to have the free space to store hours and hours of the recorded video if I want to record just a short TV show???? There, hovewer, is a (silly) workaround: 1. Just watch the show you want to record 2. After the show ends, rewind it back a few minutes before it began (Live Playback has obviously to be turned on) 3. Press RECORD and immediately after press STOP (and choose to save the content - that will save everything from the point where you rewound to present time) 4. Open Time Shift and start the newly recorded video 5. FF to the exact start of the show and press PAUSE 6. Use the mouse to press the arrow to open some additional commands and choose Save Selection (the in-point will be marked with A) 7. FF the video to the exact end of the show and press PAUSE 8. Press Save Selection one more time at the out-point to cut-out everything but the selected part of the video This workaround allows you to 'record' even if you have less than 40 GB of free HD space, but that way the max. length of saved video is 1 h 30 min (because Live Playback saves only last one and a half hour). My question #02 is: How it is supposed to fill the last 40 GB of the hard disk space if you can't even start the recording when you have 'only' 39.9 GB of free space???? The 1 h 30 min of Live recording can't 'eat' those 40 GB even if we are watching the maximum rate 1080i TV show so those 40 GB are not intended to be used by Live recorder. The only way to fill the last 40 GB of HD space seems to be in the case of recording for hours and hours!?

Strange caracter in subtitles
chupo_cro replied to Ruisuperstar's question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
http://www.lgwebos.com/topic/1660-better-subtitle-handling-parsing-the-ii-and-bb-tags/ Until they fix the issue, the only way is to fix the subtitles by replacing <i>, </i>, <b>, </b>, <font...>, </font...> etc. tags with 'notnihg'. Here you are the macro for UltraEdit to get rid of <i>&<b> tags: InsertMode ColumnModeOff HexOff UnixReOff Find "<i>" Replace All "" UnixReOff Find "</i>" Replace All "" UnixReOff Find "<b>" Replace All "" UnixReOff Find "</b>" Replace All "" I have assigned this macro to Ctrl+F5 so now I need 5 seconds to drag'n'drop the subtitle file to UltraEdit, press Ctrl+F5 and save. You can use any text editor that supports macros and extend the functionality as you need. -
Same here. The browser often restarts with 'Out of Memory' error. Especially when watching a video, but sometimes even it there isn't any video in the page.

LG Bulgaria support - very disappointment
chupo_cro replied to forum1's question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
Hi, since you're suspecting the TV is not new - if that is the true then someone else has already created an account with that TV and that is the reason you can not log in with your account. Because when you are creating account it says you can not ever change your username. The same would happen if you selled the TV and didn't tell him/her the account data - he/she then couldn't create/use another username from that TV. The only solution would then be to contact LG and ask them to delete the account connected with your TV (every TV has some ID to be identified). Have you tried to create a new account (from this TV) at all? Did you go to the About menu and read Total Power On Time after buying the TV? Then you could know if someone has used it before (or it was turned on in the shop). As for the Live Menu navigation (filtering the channels) - yes, it's not OK the highlight jumps to the channels instead to the upper commands, I hope they'll fix that soon. In the meantime you can use the OK button at the up-arrow to at least speed up the process. You're right, it is a very big problem!! It's very frustrating to organize the channels by swapping two-by-two channels. However, in the Satellite mode the functionality is OK - take a look at my post about that issue - so I expect it will be fixed in the very next software update. BTW, you didn't mention the model of your TV (or I missed it). -

Programme Manager - Swap instead of Move in Antenna mode
chupo_cro posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
While in the Satellite mode channel moving works as expected, in the Antenna mode the Move command performs 'swap' rather than 'move'. Example: Satellite mode: 1. Ch 1 2. Ch 2 3. Ch 3 4. Ch 4 5. Ch 5 6. Ch 6 7. Ch 7 8. Ch 8 After moving 5 to 2: 1. Ch 1 2. Ch 5 3. Ch 2 4. Ch 3 5. Ch 4 6. Ch 6 7. Ch 7 8. Ch 8 As expected. Antenna mode: 1. Ch 1 2. Ch 2 3. Ch 3 4. Ch 4 5. Ch 5 6. Ch 6 7. Ch 7 8. Ch 8 After moving 5 to 2: 1. Ch 1 2. Ch 5 3. Ch 3 4. Ch 4 5. Ch 2 6. Ch 6 7. Ch 7 8. Ch 8 Wrong! Can anyone confirm the behavior? It is very frustrating to organize the channels when 'swap' is performed instead of 'move'. Moving just one single channel requires multiple swaps so the Move command for sure has to behave as in the Satellite mode. LG 42LB650V FW: 04.30.16 webOS: 1.3.0-3216(afro-arches)-

Many subtitle files use the italic and bold tags to distinguish the translation of written text, character's thoughts, movie title, loud voice, ... However webOS doesn't support parsing of these tags and it just shows them on the screen as: <i>This text is italic.</i> <b>This text is bold.</b> The workaround is to Find/Replace all occurrences of <i>, </i>, <b> and </b> with 'nothing' but, of course, that removes the subtitle formatting :-/ I hope the <i> and <b> tag parsing wil be implemented in the future firmware releases. In the meantime at least ignoring of these tags would be fine - so everything inside '<' and '>' would be ignored (including the brackets, of course).

You were right - after updating the firmware to 04.30.16 the Code Page option remembers the (last used) state. I've also noticed new icon design, sooner disappearing notifications after inserting/removing the USB stick, more info in the About menu (MAC addresses), faster responding menus/options and faster previewing contents of the removable drives. Unfortunately web browser still sometimes restarts when browsing the pages. However, it now restarts with 'Out of memory' error code (before there wasn't any error reports). I hope the transparent subtitle background and subtitle outline options will be implemented in the near future. And there is one more thing about the subtitle handling - I believe it's so important it deserves a separate thread so I am going to open a new topic...
-
So the Code Page choice saving has already been solved? Nice to hear :-) I have disabled automatic SW updates because I wanted to first read the changelog and wait to see the user reports but couldn't find any changelogs :-/ So I am still using firmware 03.23.13 shipped with the TV. I can see the latest firmware is 4.30.16 - can you confirm this FW didn't introduce some new bugs? For example, with 03.23.13 web browser often suddenly just restarts. Do you maybe know if SW update can mess up some settings (e.g. calibration settings)? Thank you for your reply

I have LB650V webOS TV and it is very annoying having to reselect the (Latin 2) subtitle encoding (Code Page) every time when playing the movie. Absolutely no excuse not to save the last used choice for the subtitle Code Page so I hope it will be implemented in the future firmware updates. And one more thing about the subtitles: the options to turn on the transparent background and/or the character outlines has to be done - to improve the readability.

Most of the mp4 files not playing
chupo_cro replied to alamodein's question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
On LB650V the # character in the name of the video file causes Unrecognizable File Format error so you can try renaming the files to see if it helps. If that doesn't help use MediaInfo to compare the video/audio formats inside the container with some file that works. -
.srt subtitles (black outline)
chupo_cro replied to Cosmopapi's question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
That would be really useful (+ of course the option to have the transparent subtitle background)!! As would be the ability to save the subtitle encoding choice (the selected Code Page).
