Great video. http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/06/webos-design-lead-takes-us-through-lgs-new-smart-tv-platform-ambitions/ Especially when asked about phones. -

Ok, this is not exactly "Future" webOS gadgets but at one point it time it looks like they were. On January 2nd, Dieter Bohn wrote an article for the Verge titled, "The lost secrets of webOS" that is a very interesting read. Dieter reveils gadgets on the planning board of HP before Leo killed the entire webOS project. In the article he reveils future gadgets code named Twain, Mako, Sapphire, & Embark. The Twain is an interesting piece of hardware which looked to be ahead of its time a bit as we are seeing tablets like this now. Dieter also reveils that the iPad 2 is what scared them all off. It was thinner and lighter than the Touchpad. had they rode it out, who knows what webOs could have been today. If you are a webOS fan, take a moment and read the article: http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/2/5264580/the-lost-secrets-of-webos

Ahead of CES, the image below of the new LG webos TV was leaked on twitter by @evleaks. The image shows May 15th...which is something to think about and the cards interface is a change from the traditional phone/tablet layout. We'll see....

Will LG Develop a webOS Smartphone?
Alex replied to Alex's topic in LG TV and LG webOS Smart TV Discussion
At least dual boot if they are going to stick with Android! -
LG's webOS TV will retain 'Cards' navigation We've known that LG is planning to resurrect webOS in a smart TV for some time, but today an anonymous source tells the Wall Street Journal that the company's interpretation of the OS will include its famous Cards interface, which served as inspiration for the multitasking system in Apple, Google, and Microsoft's mobile UIs. LG bought the defunct operating system, which debuted on the Palm Pre smartphone, from HP last February, and revealed a few details about its upcoming TV set earlier this month. The webOS-powered TV will be announced at the CES trade show in January, and is set to run a 2.2GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM, apps based on the webOS Enyo framework, and multitasking via the Cards interface. Although pricing and availability remains a mystery, LG says its smart TV will be "a gamechanger." Source: http://www.theverge.com/2013/12/30/5256186/lg-webos-smart-tv-cards-interface-rumor

From Wall Street Journal today: http://m.us.wsj.com/articles/BL-DGB-31645 LG to Unveil webOS-Powered TV LG now plans to showcase an Internet-connected television model powered by webOS in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal. He didn’t elaborate on the features of the operating system, but said it would retain the “cards” system, or a stack of pop-ups that allows users to navigate multiple applications, originally used in the webOS mobile devices launched by H-P. The person didn’t comment on the company’s plans to market the webOS-powered TVs but said the operating system may be developed and later adopted for LG’s other consumer electronics, including smartphones.

I did like my pre 2. Never got a pre 3... But my 2 served very well and I liked the keyboard. Used a pixi for a while with that keyboard as well. I agree that differentiating would be the way to go.

Remember when LG bought the festering remains of the once proud webOS project from HP with the plan to add it to Smart TVs? Nearly a year later and it looks as if the company is ready to show off the results. According to ZDNet Korea, company officials told investors that next fortnight's CES is where the platform will launch. At the same event, LG chiefs also said that it would throw its weight behind Palm's Enyo open-source JavaScript development framework in the hope of encouraging third parties to craft software for the new system. You never know, maybe Jon Rubinstein's big project could get a happy ending after all. As of mid-November, 2013 KitKat is still very much a work in progress. Developer flintman has posted a build of an Android Open Souce ROM called Evervolv at the xda-developers forum. At this point Bluetooth doesn’t work, the stock web browser doesn’t work, and there’s a risk of data loss — and since the browser doesn’t work, you may need to create an app-specific password to login to your Google account if you use 2-step verification. The options to reboot into recovery are also broken for now — but you can always reboot your tablet manually to get to the Moboot bootloader. In other words, if you want to help test for bugs, go ahead and install the software. If you want a stable operating system on your HP TouchPad, you should probably wait a little while. KitKat also takes up more space than some earlier versions of Android, so you may want a larger system partition. Developer iMarck90 has posted experimental builds of ACMEInstaller at the RootzWiki forum. It’s designed to give you larger system partitions. Hewlett-Packard (HP) reportedly will launch a US$99 tablet and will cooperate with Wal-Mart to sell the device in the US retail channel, targeting back-to-school demand, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. The US$99 tablet is manufactured by China-based BYD and is the second tablet that HP has outsourced to the China-based maker. The device adopts a 7-inch touch panel and Intel's Medfield-based single-core processor. In early 2013, Acer released its 7-inch Iconia B1, priced at US$150, which was the cheapest 7-inch tablet at that time, and in mid-2013, Asustek Computer announced at Computex 2013 the MeMO Pad HD 7, using a solution from MediaTek with a price of US$129, dropping tablet pricing to a new level. Some market watchers already forecast that a sub-US$100 tablet would appear in the third quarter at the soonest, and if HP decides to release the tablet, it could trigger other vendors to follow suit, the sources said. This is the second time HP offered its tablet at US$99. In 2011, HP slashed its TouchPad's price from US$499 originally to US$99 to quickly clear out inventory due to weak demand. As a result, HP suffered great losses which impacted the device's manufacturer Inventec. After 18 months, HP has returned to the tablet market, but has chosen to cooperate with China-based BYD for its tablet devices. Although HP had many issues such as shipment quality, the US brand vendor continues to outsource its new products to the China-based maker, indicating that Taiwan makers are losing their advantages and seeing their influence in the IT market weakening as the IT market gradually becomes price-oriented. However, some market watchers believe that HP's US$99 tablet may not be able to gain advantages in the market as the tablet will be selling mainly through specific retail channels, limiting its overall sales volume, while the tablet's Intel single-core processor specification, compared to other vendors' quad-core ARM-based processors, may pose difficulties to attract consumers.
