Well, the rumor mill has begun again, with stories flying all over the internet about HTC looking into buying an OS for themselves. Just a little over a week ago the rumor was Samsung, until that was slammed down by their CEO as "never". HTC chairwoman Cher Wang made some comments that they are entertaining the idea of purchaisng their own. The likely os should be webOS, but could it really be? A few things about this...
Does HP want to sell rather than license? They made a mention of licensing it to expand it's reach.
Is webOS a failing OS from a corporate view, having started in Palm and gone to HP, with little success against the likes of iOS and Android?
Has the recent Touchpad Firesale added enough new users to build a more desireable ecosystem?
Can HTC be successful with webOS and adding maybe HTC Sense as a layer or even rebranding webOS?
Can HTC benefit from all those Palm patents in it's fights againts Apple?
How big of a risk would it be for HTC?
If HTC does buy it, should they rebrand it?
All these bullet points are just a few of the questions you see started by users out there. The diehard webOS users like myself (opening day palm pre user) are just waiting for some light at the end of the tunnel, and a company like HTC with successful hardware, running webOS, Beats audio, and a layer of some Sense...just makes sense. Imagine an EVO sporting webOS, we never had a slab phone...how would that sell? Yes, that would be interesting. We can only hope! (I'm not getting my hopes up just yet)
