  2. With a Stylish Design, Personalized Content and LG’s Renowned DUAL Inverter, New Residential Air Conditioner Creates a Chic and Comfortable Living Environment SEOUL, Dec. 16, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) is ready to unveil its latest ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner at CES 2023. Boasting a 27-inch LCD screen and LG’s upgradable options, the new model can display personalized content to match any season or to instantly refresh the room using the LG ThinQ app. It also delivers energy-efficient cooling and heating with LG’s DUAL Inverter Compressor and 3-way indirect airflow, provides a more hygienic performance with AI Dry and offers a variety of user-friendly features including an intuitive mobile app. Presenting exclusive content on a bright LCD screen bordered by a simple, yet sophisticated frame, the ARTCOOL Gallery gives one the impression they are looking at a framed work of art rather than an advanced LG air conditioner. Using the LG ThinQ app, users can select from a growing range of gorgeous, static and animated images – or choose from favorite family photos – and display something new whenever they feel like a change. The new model can be easily managed using the included smart remote or via a mobile app1 that lets users choose settings and functions as well as monitor the appliance’s status in real-time, from any location. Equipped with the company’s DUAL Inverter Compressor, the new ARTCOOL Gallery delivers energy-efficient cooling, using up to 70 percent less power than a conventional residential air conditioner.2 The new model’s 3-way airflow provides indirect airflows suitable for the space. LG’s latest ARTCOOL Gallery also helps create an indoor environment that is as peaceful as it is comfortable, operating at noise levels as low as 20 decibels and closing its ‘hidden’ bottom vane in sleep mode so as not to disturb or disrupt users’ rest.3 What’s more, the stunning ARTCOOL Gallery provides pleasantly fresh airflow thanks to LG’s AI Dry feature. Automatically setting the optimal drying time based on operation time and mode selection, AI Dry effectively removes any moisture that has formed inside the air conditioner. Additionally, the new model has a bottom grill that can be easily detached and cleaned4 as well as a cover that helps make installation easier. “Offering outstanding performance and artistic themes fit for all tastes and seasons, our latest ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner delivers year-around comfort and elegance,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “With the unique combination of personalized content and cutting-edge technologies, LG’s innovative, new air solution is designed to help provide consumers with a better life at home.” Visitors to LG’s booth (#15501, Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES 2023 from January 5-8 can see all of the company’s latest innovations, including the new ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner. # # # 1 Currently only compatible with Android OS-based devices. 2 Based on TÜV Rheinland tests conducted according to LG internal test methods comparing cooling time and power consumption. Energy savings is measured by comparing the power consumption of the two models during 8 hours of operation. 3 Tested LG’s internal lab measuring the average noise level of the product in the ‘Sleep Mode’ (19.6 decibels). Results may vary depending on the actual usage environment. 4 Users can access and clean the ARTCOOL Gallery air conditioner’s fan after removing the bottom grill. View the full article
  3. New Counter-Depth French-Door Fridge Boasts Mirror InstaView Panel, Large Capacity and Four Types of Ice SEOUL, Dec. 15, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) is set to unveil the new LG InstaView French-Door refrigerator at CES 2023. Helping users create a more stylish kitchen that sits flush with the cabinetry and enjoy an upgraded culinary life, the new counter-depth model offers large capacity and a simple yet elegant built-in design featuring a mirror InstaView panel and unobtrusive pocket handles. It also provides four different types of ice and keeps food fresh for longer with LG’s advanced freshness technologies. The company’s new, 25.5-cubic feet counter-depth refrigerator offers a generous capacity, despite a nine percent reduction in depth compared to a conventional French-Door model.1 To increase internal storage space, LG redesigned several of the fridge’s core components – slimming-down the cold air duct and the evaporator, while also reducing thickness by applying enhanced insulation. Although its expansive interior provides 25 percent more room for storing food and drinks than LG’s previous counter-depth models,2 the new French-Door can still help to save space in the kitchen thanks to its smaller footprint. The new model also brings a simple yet sophisticated aesthetic to the kitchen courtesy of LG’s unique mirror-InstaView panel and flat door design. Bordered in sleek stainless steel, the mirror-coated glass of the seamless InstaView panel covers almost the entire right-hand door of the refrigerator. Just by knocking twice on the panel, users can check inside without having to open the door – a time-saving convenience that prevents cold air from escaping and energy from being wasted. The subtle, minimalist beauty and clean, modern lines of LG’s latest InstaView are further enhanced by the discrete pocket handles applied to the fridge’s ‘flat’ doors. Additionally, the new French-Door refrigerator can create four different types of ice: cubed ice, crushed ice, LG’s exclusive, slow-melting round Craft Ice and the new mini cubed ice. Helping to keep drinks refreshingly cool, LG’s mini cubed ice makes a great addition to juices, sodas or cocktails. With four frozen choices at their disposal, users can select whichever style of ice best suits their need, their drink or the occasion. Featuring LG’s cutting-edge technologies, the new fridge seals in the freshness of ingredients for longer and helps maintain the hygiene of the built-in water dispenser. The company’s exclusive LinearCooling technology reduces temperature fluctuations, enabling the fridge to preserve food at peak freshness for up to seven days.3 Meanwhile, DoorCooling+ works faster than a conventional cooling system4 to help keep food fresher – and beverages colder – on every shelf. On top of that, LG’s UVnano tech maintains the cleanliness of the fridge’s water dispenser, reducing the presence of bacteria on the dispenser’s nozzle by 99.99 percent.5 “LG’s new InstaView French-Door refrigerator makes a superb, stylish addition to any modern kitchen, offering consumers the ultimate in convenience, design and food freshness,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We will continue to deliver outstanding customer value and experiences with innovative home solutions leveraging elegant, functional design and our advanced technologies.” LG will be showcasing its latest home appliances, including the new InstaView French-Door refrigerator, at its exhibition booth (#15501, Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES 2023 in Las Vegas from January 5-8. # # # 1 LG standard-depth model LFXS26596S. 2 Based on an internal study utilizing average cans to quantify available storage space, conducted in March 2022, comparing LG models LRFVC2406S and LRFOC2606S. 3 LinearCooling sends cool air throughout the refrigerator compartment more frequently than a conventional cooling system, helping maintain a smaller temperature fluctuation range of ±0.5 degrees Celsius. Based on TÜV Rheinland test results using LG’s internal test method, measuring the time it took to achieve a 5 percent weight loss rate for pak choi on the shelf in the fresh produce compartment of the LG LinearCooling model GSXV91NSAE. Results may vary depending on the actual usage environment. 4 Tested by TÜV Rheinland using LG’s internal testing method, comparing the time of the temperature of the water container placed in the top basket to drop between DoorCooling+ and non-DoorCooling+ models. 5 Tested by TÜV Rheinland using LG’s internal testing method, measuring the reduction of a bacteria solution (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) in distilled water samples after exposure to the product’s UV LED for 10 minutes each hour, after a total of 24 hours in normal household use. Results may vary depending on the actual usage environment. View the full article
  4. Company Named in Globally Respected Corporate Sustainability Index for Its Strong Commitment to ESG Management SEOUL, Dec. 13, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) has earned a place in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the eleventh consecutive year, illustrating the company’s ongoing leadership in responsible ESG management. The DJSI World lists only the top 10 percent of over 2,500 global companies in terms of corporate sustainability, evaluating each organization based on in-depth analyses of their environmental, social and governance practices. Updated annually, the DJSI World is widely viewed by investors, governments and other key stakeholders around the globe, as a reliable indicator of corporates’ ESG commitment. LG scored well in all three areas of ESG management in this year’s Index. Receiving high marks for its various environmentally-focused initiatives, the company is actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water usage while also increasing recycling rates, converting to renewable energy sources and making steady progress toward its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. LG reduced the total amount of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from its domestic and overseas sites by 40 percent last year (compared to 2017 levels). In terms of the social criteria measured, LG garnered a favorable assessment from the DJSI World for its strong efforts in supply chain management, workplace diversity and for the creation of an inclusive culture. The company also earned a positive evaluation for implementing transparent and responsible governance practices, including the disclosure of its Board Skills Matrix (BSM), establishment of the board guidelines on independence, expertise and diversity. Dedicated to realizing a more inclusive society through providing products that are truly accessible, in Korea, LG recently introduced cost-free braille stickers to enable people with visual impairments to more conveniently operate appliances. The company has also shown its commitment to meeting the highest global standards with the acquisition of ISO37301 certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI). Developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO37301 is an internationally-recognized standard for assessing whether a company’s compliance management policies and risk management systems conform to global standards. In addition to being listed in the DJSI World for 11 years in a row, LG has made the DJSI Asia Pacific Index for 13 consecutive years, and the DJSI Korea Index for 14 consecutive years. Assessing the same criteria as the DJSI World, the Asia Pacific Index includes the top 20 percent of the top 600 companies in the Asia-Pacific region, while the DJSI Korea Index recognizes the top 30 percent of the top 200 companies based in South Korea. Furthermore, LG has been awarded Platinum status for the second straight year by independent, globally-trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, EcoVadis – putting LG in the top one percent of all companies in terms of sustainability initiatives. And for the last two years, LG has been given an ‘A’ grade by global investment research firm, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). LG’s ESG management practices and goals, including the mid- to long-term strategic tasks the company established earlier this year, are clearly laid out in its Better Life Plan 2030. The plan embodies LG’s commitment to realizing a more inclusive and diverse society by embracing differences and forming close-knit circles of alliance with company employees, corporate partners and stakeholders. “We will continue to do everything we can to realize our vision for a more sustainable future, leveraging our experience, innovative technologies and global presence to help make life better for all,” said Hong Sung-min, head of LG’s ESG department. # # # View the full article

The successful culmination of the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD applications shines a bright light on the new direction LG is headed to adopt more sustainable business practices. The company is now turning its attention to widening the platform of opportunities and resources to invite people from all backgrounds to join its virtuous cycle of positive impact. 7. In this installment of On the Job, we go inside LG’s ESG department and take a look at how they’re promoting excellence in ESG. In recent years, companies like LG have been incorporating environment, social and governance (ESG) factors into their business strategies and operations since an awareness of the need for ESG in business has become much bigger. As a responsible corporate citizen itself, LG recognizes the importance of applying ESG practices to its day-to-day operations if it wants to achieve its ambitious goals. With this in mind, the company enlarged its ESG department early this year to carry out its mid-to-long-term ESG vision and strategic tasks. The extended department is responsible for leading the ESG Committee which meets twice a year to deliberate and decide on the company’s overall ESG management activities in detail. To inspire greater transparency when it comes to ESG communications, LG’s ESG department publishes an annual sustainability report to clearly outline the company’s achievements, goals and plans to its external stakeholders. This year, LG thought its 2022 edition would be the perfect opportunity to unveil its sustainable vision of a Better Life for All, under which the company is expanding the scope of its sustainable practices to create a better life for not only its customers, but for its employees, suppliers and the environment as well. To carry out this vision, the company launched The Better Life Plan 2030 which shines a bright light on the company’s six commitments by facilitating carbon neutrality, circular economies, eco-conscious products, sustainable supply chains, an inclusive organizational culture and accessible products and services. One aspect the department is focused in on this year is ensuring all LG employees are on the same page when it comes to the company’s overarching efforts and goals. “In order to strengthen ESG management, all employees and stakeholders should have a high level of understanding of ESG,” said Hong Sung-min, head of LG’s ESG Department. To get the job done in the timeliest manner, the department institutionalized a mandatory training program for all LG employees. This 30-minute online learning video session introduces the meaning and importance of ESG, LG’s mid-to-long-term plan and the six commitments we have committed to as one. The session was first rolled out to Korean employees on mid-November and was then expanded to employees working at its global offices two weeks later. The learning session has already received an overwhelming response from LG employees in Korea. “One employee stated that the video lecture explained the company’s ESG vision and commitments clearly so that everyone could understand, and that it was a great opportunity to think about how it applies to his work,” remarked Kim Eun-gyeong, an associate of the ESG department. To build an inclusive organizational culture, LG is making a conscious effort to carry out ESG activities with employees, with the ESG department actively collecting and applying ideas and feedback from employees. As a result, earlier this year, the company challenged its employees to come together in the collective journey towards circularity by using reusable cups at its headquarters buildling, LG Twin Towers, in Korea. By eliminating the use of paper cups in the office, the company expects to reduce 11 tons of greenhouse gases every year. The company even installed easy-to-use tumbler washers as well as ice makers in office lounges to make the transition easier. LG Electronics North American headquarters campus located in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council with the 2021 USGBC Leadership Award for its LEED Platinum distinction. The company also has an ESG Council, overseen by the CFO, that is held quarterly to discuss the direction of ESG management activities as well as the progress and improvement of specific tasks. Made up by decision makers from across various departments, including strategy, planning, energy, human resources, purchasing, R&D and marketing, the council discusses tasks necessary to achieve the company’s ESG goals, such as the use of renewable energy, measures to respond to greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain, the establishment of diversity and inclusion policies as well as improvement of governance structure. To go above and beyond, LG aims to strengthen its ESG management next year by expanding the number of eco-friendly elements utilized throughout the entire life cycle of household appliances, ranging from production and use to recovery and recycling. The ESG department has even recently set up ‘Eco-Friendly Supply Chain’ and ‘Eco-Friendly Packaging Strategy’ task teams to promote a leading circular economy. Going forward, LG’s forward-thinking ESG department hopes to emphasize the authenticity of its ESG practices by establishing specific plans that help implement its commitments and realize its ESG vision, based on external environmental analysis and internal business analysis while ensuring to disclose all related information to its various stakeholders for a level of transparency it can be proud of. # # # View the full article
  8. A warm, comfortable home is essential for enduring the harsh, Northern hemisphere winter. But cranking up the heat during the coldest months of the year does come at a cost, harming the planet by increasing carbon emissions and hitting home owners with some hefty energy bills. That’s why heating solutions such as LG’s air-to-water heat pumps are a wise choice; delivering next-level efficiency and a more eco-conscious performance to keep you cozy indoors when it’s too frigid to go out. Here’s how installing a heat pump at home can help you enjoy a warm, energy-efficient winter. The Perfect Energy-Saving Heater for Your Home Offering numerous advantages over conventional heating solutions, heat pump systems can meet all of your space and floor heating needs and ensure a reliable supply of hot water, all winter long. A properly installed heat pump with a capacity suitable for the size or your space can consistently maintain the set temperature while generating fewer carbon emissions compared to an oil or gas boiler. What’s more, according to the German Heat Pump Association, heat pumps designed to operate using renewable energy sources can even help households to achieve carbon neutrality. LG offers benefits for different types of buildings with both split and monobloc heat pump solutions,1 such as those in the highly efficient LG Therma V R32 series. Boasting an A+++ energy rating in space heating with a Leaving Water Temperature (LWT) of 35 degrees Celsius,2 LG Therma V can provide year-around hot water supply as well as heating and cooling for the whole house. Even when the temperature dips down to negative 7 degrees Celsius outside, it still delivers powerful heating at an impressive 100 percent of capacity.3 LG Therma V also features Seasonal Auto Mode – which enables it to automatically adjust performance in accordance with the temperature outdoors – and can heat water to a piping-hot temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.4 By installing an efficient heating system, you can make your home a warm, comfy oasis without consuming large amounts of electricity, thereby cutting energy costs and shrinking your energy footprint at the same time. Smart Temperature Management All LG Therma V solutions come with a remote control, while several models feature an integrated control panel where you can easily view a range of operational information – such as current mode and indoor temperature – and change settings as needed. The company’s solutions can also be remotely controlled from the LG ThinQ app, so you can have the perfect temperature awaiting you after a hard day at the office or make sure the heating is set to low when you’re away on vacation. Enjoy a warmer winter at home this year, and every year, with a convenient, efficient heating system that’s better for the planet and for your wallet. # # # 1 For types of heat pumps, refer to www.lg.com/global/business/hvac-blog/which-heat-pump-type-is-right-for-me. 2 Energy Label rating is based on COMMISSION DELEGATED REGULATION (EU) No 811/2013. 9. Communications technology works in devices like smartphones to offer us increased convenience, keeping us connected with friends and family and providing an endless source of entertainment. This technology can also be applied to mobility. Like a smartphone, a vehicle is equipped with communications technology that connects it to the internet, enabling passengers to do more on the move through automotive displays that show key information including directions, driving information, nearby restaurants and the news. The technology that connects cars to the internet is known as telematics. A portmanteau of ‘telecommunications’ and ‘informatics’, telematics refers to the use of on-board communications-enabled devices to store, send and receive information. A car collects data from various sources, including mobile networks, Global Positioning System (GPS), Location-based Services (LBS) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which is then analyzed through telematics to provide the driver with all the info available. So, why is telematics so important? Core technology for autonomous cars Autonomous cars must be able to operate without human intervention. With analysts predicting autonomous vehicles to generate as much as 40 terabytes of data every hour,* almost instantaneous communication is essential for self-driving cars to exist in a world that puts safety above everything. Autonomous cars need to be able to detect all kinds of information using several cameras installed onboard, including data on local traffic, traffic signals, other vehicles and in-cabin conditions. The information is then transmitted to the cloud where it’s analyzed to achieve fully automated driving, a process which is faster and more accurate thanks to telematics. Real-time updates for cars Over-the-air (OTA) automatically updates a car’s software via wireless communications, reducing the need for service center visits for repairs or replacements and meaning new services that weren’t available at purchase can be added later. With the modern car constantly evolving, communication with servers containing upgrade data must be seamless so that cars can automatically check for and apply updates and menus as soon as they become available. Telematics ensures this fast and accurate communication without error. Connect via the internet With most of today’s devices having access to the internet, we’ve already experienced how internet connectivity enhances convenience in many ways. In fact, we have come to trust and rely on communications to a point where we almost can’t live without it. The same applies to the automotive industry, which is why Wi-Fi-enabled cars are on the rise. From receiving traffic guidance and requesting assistance during emergencies, to tracking the locations of stolen vehicles and sending high-resolution videos, telematics brings various features together to make the driving experience safer, easier and more enjoyable. As we enter the 5G era, a more diverse and differentiated in-vehicle experience is on its way. However, reliable telematics will be key to ensuring a stable 5G connection as well as the outstanding quality of services like autonomous driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems and connected cars. To prepare for what’s to come, LG Electronics’ Vehicle component Solution (VS) Company has been focused in on the R&D of its telematics for several years. For example, LG partnered with GM in 2015 to develop the Chevrolet Bolt EV’s telematics system, collaborated with Intel in 2016 to develop and pilot 5G telematics technology and teamed up with Qualcomm in 2017 to jointly develop next-generation connected car solutions. To carry this momentum on, LG will continue to work with global partners to develop the telematics systems offering the most enhanced convenience and safety to millions of drivers the world over. # # # * https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-09-17/carmakers-look-to-satellites-for-future-of-self-driving-vehicles View the full article

  12. While flying cars are still quite far away from being a real thing, some of the ideas we used to have about life of the future have turned into a reality. Smart living powered by Internet of Things (IoT) devices is a perfect example. Through its industry-leading IoT technologies, LG is more committed than ever to providing consumers with an all-around better quality of life by enabling connected smart homes powered by ThinQ. To give travelers a taste of this smart living far away from home, LG Taiwan partnered with two accommodation providers in the city of Yilan, located on the nation’s northeastern coast, to offer a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. As part of this two-year partnership, LG Taiwan teamed up with The Westin Yilan Resort for the launch of the “LG ThinQ One-Bedroom Pool Villa” – a luxurious villa featuring modern, white décor and plenty of natural light. This elegant space also features minimalist wooden furniture and access to a private pool, Zen garden and hot spring so guests can rejuvenate their minds and bodies, freeing themselves from all outside distractions. For the most advanced and unique smart home experience, the villa’s guest rooms are packed with popular LG smart home appliances, smart TVs and AV products so that they can try everything and experience how easy it is to control them all on the ThinQ app. During their stay, guests can activate, schedule and view the status of the home’s appliances anytime through the smartphone provided in their room, and utilize LG OLED TV’s Home Dashboard or smart speakers to control them remotely, ensuring people of all abilities can experience the smart life powered by LG. On entering the picturesque villa, travelers can place their outerwear in LG Styler to eliminate the germs they collected on their travels. For guests who just enjoyed a quick swim, LG dryer can gently dry their clothes to eliminate damp odors without damaging the most delicate of fabrics. Moreover, guests can enjoy high-quality multimedia entertainment with LG Ultra HD 4K OLED Smart TV, which can also be used to monitor and control the smart appliances, such as turning on LG PuriCare AeroTower or PuriCare dehumidifier to create the most comfortable indoor space even during rainy, humid days. To follow up its first collaboration with the DEZU Group in 2021, which brought to life the “HA House Autumn,” LG Taiwan created a second ThinQ home this year called the “HA House Summer”, which is even more smart and comprehensive than the first, setting a new benchmark for the era of smart travel accommodations. “HA House Summer” is a 5-story home converted from the personal residence of DEZU Group’s founder. Featuring a simple yet modern white exterior design, the building itself utilizes large floor-to-ceiling windows to create a living space that harmonizes with surrounding nature. This sprawling house is filled with LG’s full range of Wi-Fi-enabled smart home appliances, including LG DUALCOOL air conditioner, LG PuriCare 360° Air Purifier, LG PuriCare AeroTower and LG QuadWash dishwasher. Guests can turn on each floor’s air conditioner via the ThinQ app before entering to enjoy a cool temperature and fresh air as soon as they step inside. The wireless, portable XBOOM 360 Bluetooth speaker provides immersive surround sound while LG StanbyME, a 27-inch wireless touchscreen monitor with movable stand, lets guests enjoy audio and video entertainment on the outdoor turf, at the pool, in the basement’s gaming room and everywhere in between. What’s more, the second floor is furnished with home furniture appliances from the LG Objet Collection, including LG WashTower, LG Styler and LG CordZeroThinQ A9 Kompressor+ vacuum cleaner, while the popular InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator is installed in the first-floor kitchen. The LG Objet Collection’s natural color palette evokes comfort and familiarity through its light pastel colors and elegant earth tones which harmonize with nature. 15. In this installment of On the Job, we go inside LG Experience Informatics (EI) Task to look at how LG leverages data analysis to uncover hidden needs and create personalized customer experiences that improve everyday life Hyper personalization is the new must. In this era, consumers are much more evolved in terms of their engagement with brands and are seeking products that can adapt to their individual needs and offer user experiences that suit their unique preferences and lifestyles. With LG Object Collection, which presents a range of chic, customizable living solutions that can elevate any home décor, and LG ThinQ UP Appliances, which allow users to select and add convenient, new features and functions, LG is at the forefront of the personalized appliance trend. When creating personalized products or services, it is crucial to first discover customers’ unvoiced needs – and this is where data collection and analysis are so important for a lifestyle innovator like LG. To enhance its capabilities and efficiency in this area, the company established Experience Informatics (EI) Task, a dedicated unit that uses large-scale quantitative analysis to thoroughly assess a diverse range of customer experience data. EI Task is enabling LG to better predict future purchasing intentions and gain greater insight into the lifestyles and needs of its customers. Recently, EI Task received a significant boost to its operations with the introduction of the Lifegraphy system which provides customer insights through customer-centric data structures and interpretation algorithms developed based on years of customer research experiences. Lifegraphy enables its users to comprehend customer experiences from multiple angles and flexibly explore customer needs by converting abstract concepts, including customer values and lifestyle, into numerical data. Before the invention of Lifegraphy, the task of understanding customers and uncovering what they really want was handled by LG personnel proficient in data analysis and statistics. Unfortunately, the considerable time and effort required to complete their research made it difficult to keep up with fast-changing industry trends and customer tastes. Moreover, challenges in sharing and interpreting data collected by different divisions and projects brought further inefficiency to the overall process. But now, thanks to the advent of the Lifegraphy system, any business unit or group within LG can accurately analyze customer data without requiring an expert team of analysts or statisticians to do so. As such, they can establish the initial design and marketing direction for new products much faster than before, meaning a shorter development period and more precise targeting of specific consumer segments. Another advantage of Lifegraphy is that, because it lessens the impact of personal opinions, the results it provides are more objective and, therefore, more reliable. Lee Kun-woo, lead of LG EI Task “The Lifegraphy system was designed based on a belief that, if data collected from extensive research become a tool and was used continuously by many people, it would contribute to developing products and services that offer better customer experiences,” said Lee Kun-woo, lead of EI Task. Many experts involved in creating this efficient system faced numerous challenges and obstacles along the way. The biggest problem to solve was how to visually express the digitized, abstract concepts the system delivers in a way that any employee could easily understand. Noh Eun-young, a specialist at LG EI Task “There were people who insisted on providing the collected data as-is, but we spent much time and effort to persuade and explain to them the importance of presenting data in a way that actually helps LG employees understand target customers,” said Noh Eun-young, a specialist at LG EI Task. “No matter how much data we have, it is meaningless if we cannot interpret it accurately, and that’s exactly what Lifegraphy helps us do.” LG’s newly introduced MoodUP refrigerator is an example of a successful product conceived with assistance from the Lifegraphy system and perfected by the talented designers at LG. The refrigerator boasts LED doors that can change color to match users’ moods or preferred decorating palettes – without the cost and hassle of having to physically replace the actual panels. Through the LG ThinQ app, users can choose from 22 colors for the upper door panel and 19 colors for the lower, and instantly apply their new selection whenever the mood takes them. Thanks to the convenient, effective Lifegraphy system and the endeavors of those who designed and use it, LG is bringing exciting, new innovations to the home appliance space and taking the personalized customer experience to a whole new level. # # # View the full article

Organizational Moves to Consolidate Company’s Capabilities to Create Differentiated Customer Value, Accelerate Future Growth Engines SEOUL, Nov. 24, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) today announced organizational changes designed to bolster its preparedness for the future. The changes are being implemented primarily to accelerate the company’s future growth engines and enhance its ability to create differentiated customer value and experiences. A key piece of LG’s forward-looking strategy is the establishment of the Corporate Customer Experience (CX) Center, which will report directly to LG’s headquarters. The CX Center will be led by executive vice president, Lee Chul-bae, who previously served as head of the Corporate Design Management Center. The main role of the CX Center will be to create a seamless and expanded customer experience. It will also develop strategies and roadmaps to foster greater innovation at every stage of the customer experience journey from product planning and customer service to future business models. The CX Center will also encompass the CX Strategy Division, which will be charged with the discovery and promotion of company-wide goals and core tasks, and the LSR Customer Research Center, formerly the Life Soft Research (LSR) Lab. LG’s Platform Business Center will play a new role in integrating and organizing LG ThinQ services, responsibilities that were previously distributed across corporate and business headquarters. Established in July 2021, the Platform Business Center has been leading the creation of LG’s fandom based on data. Moving forward, the Center will be headed by LG’s vice president, Jung Ki-hyun, who joined the company in September this year. Jung has had a distinguished career with roles at eBay Korea and Google as well as acting as the CEO of Meta Korea. In 2023 and beyond, LG will continue to focus on improving supply chain management (SCM) and augmenting its already-strong Digital Transformation (DX) capabilities. To this end, the company’s Procurement and SCM Management Center has been renamed the Global Operation Center, with the functions and roles of the Production Planning Division transferred from the Production Engineering Research Institute. The Global Operation Center will create synergies across the company’s operations – such as production, purchasing and SCM – through promoting improvements based on DX technologies. Aiming to spur further growth through improved organizational performance, LG will strengthen its agile and responsive decision-making system across all four business units. Lyu Jae-cheol, head of the Home Appliance & Air Solution (H&A) Company, has been promoted to president in recognition of his success in improving H&A’s performance and product portfolio. An expert in his field, Lyu has worked in various areas of LG’s home appliance business since 1989, including in the R&D and production departments. Eun Seok-hyun, head of the Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company, was promoted to vice president. Under his leadership, LG’s vehicle component solutions business has achieved operational stability with an improved profit and loss structure, and has constructed a strong business portfolio encompassing several key future mobility technologies. Another of the newly-announced changes, the H&A Company’s “Living Appliance Business’ and “Kitchen Appliance Business” will become the “Living Solution Business” and “Kitchen Solution Business,” respectively. The renaming aligns with LG’s renewed focus on customer experience innovation and points to the greater emphasis the company is placing on the expansion of content and services. The Home Entertainment (HE) Company is set to increase its capacity to create customer value by establishing the Indonesia Research and Development Division under the HE R&D Lab Institute to enhance collaboration between overseas R&D and manufacturing bases. The VS Company aims to strengthen its capabilities in purchasing, producing and SCM by establishing an operation group that manages the integrated operation of the electric vehicle component business. The Business Solutions (BS) Company set up a new EV Charger Business Division directly under the company to accelerate the full-fledged development of EV charging solution business that was launched last year. All appointments are effective Dec. 1 with promotions going into effect on the first day of the new year. # # # View the full article

  18. A major part of any film project is the reviewing, editing and manipulating of video and sound – tasks that require high-quality displays that can run multiple applications and data streams and provide the most accurate image reproduction. LG has applied its self-lit display technology to create the LG UltraFine OLED Pro series, a lineup of professional-grade monitors offering various features and capabilities needed for media and film production. To promote its first-class displays and show its support for the cinematic arts, LG is actively seeking opportunities to sponsor professional societies and innovative educational institutions dedicated to advancing the medium of film. Recently, the company established a partnership program with Griffith Film School, a well-known Australian institution that continues to supply the entertainment industry with talented and capable people. Through the new program, LG will furnish Griffith’s Brisbane campus with a number of LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors to support students as they learn their craft. Designed with film and media professionals in mind, LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors (models 32BP95E, 27BP95E, 32EP950 and 27EP950) boast premium 4K OLED displays that deliver natural, accurate colors with 99 percent (typical) coverage of both the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color space. This wide range of color gamut enables the monitor to sufficiently reproduce color areas of multiple standards and represent accurately the exact computed color values that film directors’ use. With 1,000,000:1 high contrast ratio, almost all colors and visuals that creators or editors intended can be presented precisely. Bringing the advantages of OLED’s self-lit pixels to the desktop, the monitors also provide superb HDR and SDR performance. Founded in 2004, Griffith Film School is one of the largest learning institutes of its kind in Australia. Notable Griffith alumni include Matthew Hanger, a multi-award-winning visual effects artist, and Peter Spierig, an award-winning feature film director. The school offers an array of specialized programs, including cinematography, post-production, visual effects, screen music, production design, documentary-making, computer animation and game design – creative endeavors that are perfectly matched to LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors. “Working with LG really makes sense for us as they understand the unique needs we have as filmmakers – and that’s something you can clearly see in the capabilities and feature sets of their monitors,” said Herman Van Eyken, head professor at Griffith Film School. “LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors are state-of-the-art monitors that provide the faithful image reproduction that our students need to realize their artistic vision.” As a result of the partnership, both students and faculty members at Griffith Film School will get to explore everything that LG UltraFine OLED Pro monitors have to offer. Attracting More Than 320 Participants From Around the World, GITC Continues to Empower Youth With Disabilities for Eleventh Year SEOUL, Nov. 21, 2022 — LG Electronics hosted the final round of the 11th Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC) last week. The two-day event saw inspiring, young participants from all over the world test their skills for computer-based activities in a series of timed challenges. Adopting a hybrid online and offline format, several key participating countries including Korea, Indonesia and Vietnam set up venues locally as well. Following the success of the GITC’s preliminary round in August, registrations were high for the competition’s last stage. Ultimately, more than 320 participants from 16 countries were invited to join in the final round which was held online. After competing in four challenges – eTool, eLifeMap, eContent and eCreative – the young contestants gathered both in-person and online for an awards ceremony that acknowledged this year’s winners while also allowing everyone to come together and share experiences. The eTool challenge tests entrants’ ability to make and edit presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint and utilize functions and formulae to calculate and organize data in Microsoft Excel. eLifeMap involves conducting advanced text and image searches online to solve daily problems, while eContent evaluates one’s capacity to create and edit videos dealing with a specific topic. Lastly, the eCreative challenge, which is divided into two sections, tasks participants with coding a self-driving car program (eCreative_SmartCar) and with developing an idea for technology to make life more convenient for persons with disabilities (eCreative_IoT). LG Corporation, in conjunction with South Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, has been leading the GITC since 2011. The program was established to help youth with disabilities by bridging the digital gap, enhancing their ability to utilize IT to improve their employment and higher education opportunities. LG is investing heavily in future generations as part of its comprehensive social contribution framework, and will continue to operate various events and programs specifically designed to assist and support the next generation of leaders by strengthening their skills and capabilities. # # # View the full article
  21. As the new era of driving closes in, automakers are focusing more on the in-vehicle experience during development, especially the automotive display – the best way to unlock greater productivity and entertainment on the road. In this episode of Mobility Inside, we’ll unearth how the automotive display trend is changing for the better. Automotive displays deliver useful information about interior and exterior conditions. They include the ‘Center Information Display’ (CID), which shows overall information, the ‘cluster,’ which displays the speedometer and engine status, and the ‘head-up display’ (HUD), which reflects information onto the windshield. As cars become more autonomous in many features and functions, automotive display trends reshape to match new consumer demands. So, what do these futuristic dashboards do exactly? Switching from one-way to two-way communication LG’s automotive display in the Cadillac Escalade In the past, cars would simply relay the traffic information necessary for driving via one-way communication. But as automotive displays advance, the driver, the vehicle and external devices are seamlessly exchanging more and more information. Take your navigation app as an example of this in action. After inputting your destination, the system calculates the optimal route and ranks alternate ones based on traffic, which the driver can choose between based on their preference. In addition to traffic information, the vehicle’s temperature and external environment can be expressed, and the most recent displays even support voice, facial and gesture recognition technologies. In other words, it’s the new medium between the driver, vehicle and external elements that enables constant communication. Going beyond basic traffic information Genesis Infotainment UX Design (Photo Credit: Genesis) In 2022, we’re spoilt by all the live information we can view as we cruise. And in the not-so-distant future, cars will automatically provide information tailored to the driver through personal profiles, which means it works for shared cars too. Cars will soon be able to identify the driver and passengers so that it can provide information based on their age or the time of day. For instance, someone on their way to the office could receive the latest business news, current road conditions or weather forecasts, whereas a high school student in uniform may be given info on popular textbooks, nearby restaurants or the week’s hottest songs. Like smartphones, automotive displays curate information, deliver smart experiences and even provide customized information on the go. Switching from analog to digital LG’s digital display on the 2020 Jaguar F-PACE (Photo Credit: Jaguar Korea) Since people process most external information visually, the latest automotive displays are digital to make checking information at a glance easier and have fewer physical buttons courtesy of a touch interface that ensures changing settings is safer and more convenient. Applying the high-end material to match LG automotive display in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade (Photo Credit: Cadillac) Automotive displays are quickly becoming the centerpiece of the interior, largely because they act as a personal hub for all information and devices. That’s why applying materials and form factors that meet the needs of discerning consumers is more important than ever. Automotive displays use premium, high-quality materials for the elegant look that’s now all the rage. And the future looks even more remarkable with unique form factors like Plastic OLED (POLED) and rollable displays making their way into several markets. Switching from general information to personalized information When connecting to external devices, the automotive display leverages connectivity services to open new possibilities. Unlike a decade ago when the driver had two choices – the navigation or the radio, automotive displays now offer convenient, personalized services that take convenience and entertainment to a whole new level. Occupants can connect a smartphone to check their schedule or work while on the move, listen to music based on their unique profile, find places close by or personalize their screen with a few touches of the display. With car displays becoming an indispensable part of the driving experience, their screens are getting bigger, curvier and more flexible so that they can show more information and help create the most luxurious interiors. CID: Connecting people to their car CID, the most famous among automotive displays, presents driving status info as well as entertainment to effectively serve as a Human Machine Interface (HMI). Located in the center of the vehicle, CID gives the driver and passenger access to a range of convenient features including audio, video, navigation, HVAC and Bluetooth controls, through an intuitive and simple user experience. LG Electronics (LG) Vehicle component Solutions (VS) Company makes certain its CID is the best by staying in close communication with global premium automakers, which is why it’s now featured in several iconic vehicles – and counting. The outstanding quality of LG’s CID has been certified by A-SPICE (Automotive Software Process Improvement and Capability dEtermination), an internationally-recognized quality certification model created by European automakers to evaluate the quality of software design, verification and management. LG’s CID acquired A-SPICE certifications in 2016, 2019 and 2021. Its most recent certification, A-SPICE Level 2 (2021), not only proves that LG’s development process meets international standards for quality control and monitoring, but it also recognizes the company’s unparalleled development capabilities. Moreover, LG received Excellent Vendor Awards in 2014, 2017 and 2020 for the 9.3-inch gapless curved CID used by the Renault Group, developed using proprietary technology to invent a smooth design that harmonized with the interior. LG’s CID was also awarded the Daimler Automotive Group’s Inspiration Award in 2020, the same year its revolutionary P-OLED cockpit was awarded the coveted GM Innovation Award at General Motors’ Annual Supplier of the Year Awards. LG 4K Mini LED surgical monitor boasts exceptional picture quality courtesy of the company’s Mini LED technology, which provides clear, precise images. The product’s 27-inch, 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160) screen leverages thousands of tiny LED diodes to provide a peak brightness of 2,000cd/m² and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio.
