  1. Awesome, I wonder what is is store for us Swedes... so far the number of apps is nothing to talk about. One on demand movie renatal app. /H
  2. Interesting, but how can you copy additional media to the harddrive without connecting it? That is a main benefit of using a NAS or HTPC with file share. Any way to do this in the world of LG? /H
  3. I stumbled upon an reply of sorts here http://www.lgwebos.com/topic/1460-webos-vs-old-smarttvs-menu/page-5 It should work with just the magic remote, but I am a bit confused how, since there are no play, stop, pause, ff, rwd buttons on the remote.... /H
  4. Hi! Can I control the blu-ray playback (play, pause, skip etc) with the same way as I control playback of recorded tv, movies from dlna source etc? Or, does the blu-ray show a completly different UI that I have to use the blu-ray remote to control? I would hate to use two different remotes depending on which type of media I play. /H
  5. Have already evaluated this idea as a possible successor to our current successful HTPC with Windows Media Center. It fails on a number of accounts, mostly that you need a mouse/keyboard and/or a combo thingy to navigate it. Not exactly ergonomic if you are "zapping" around from the sofa. Also, there is very bad support in Windows 8 for regular DVB-T TV. Either you have to install media center just for the TV part or you have to resort to the really bad apps that accompany the TV tuner cards. No thank you Sir. I see no reason why WebOS should fail. They have a great OS, development resources to back it up, they are getting excellent reviews and based on everything I have read so far, WebOS for TV is a rising star... all LG have to do is keep building on the concept since I doubt they can afford to loose momentum at this moment. Basically, it is a good product, but it needs refinement and polishing to excel further. And from what I have read in the press as statements from LG officials, they are committed to the WebOS platform as the successor to NetCast, an excellent choice it seems. Surely they will implement most of the features the existing NetCast platform has, and I also expect further development of the WebOS platform that will result in future updates. Fingers crossed... /H
  6. Given that LG indeed have a roadmap for their OS, and spend money to make it better. It is my hope that they don't waste such a golden opportunity on the smart tv market, but if they choose to ignore the community and just focus on selling tv sets without fixing all the small annoying issues, it is not likely that the next smart tv the customer buys will be from LG. I would love to hear something official from the LG webOS team, just exactly what the future development looks like... But given that they can't even seem to produce a change list to their patches, maybe it is hoping for too much.... /H
  7. Corrent, but it is a bit strange that LG chooses to implement this in the way they do. For example, WIndows Media Center also record TV to the HDD in a wtv format, which is basically an h.264 container. But on this system, it is the DRM flag in the feed itself that controls how the content can be played, LG has taken the other way around, and by default setting EVERYTHING to copy protected. Why it is like this, I have no clue, but I think the WMC way is much better, since it allow me to move or view almost all recordings from one HDD to another. /H
  8. If that is true then I am deeply worried. I have tested the TV with WebOS and the first adaptation is OK and works better for me than the old platform. But if they loose momentum in the development of the OS itself then I am afraid other competitors will sidestep in a near future. WebOS for TV is good in my opinion, but there are a myriad of small details that needs to be resolved, like subtitling, guide loading etc etc. I have always thought that this is the first generation of the OS, and if I buy a high end TV set today, it will be able to run both the 2nd and 3rd generation of the OS without problem. But this new info makes me worried, deeply. /H
  9. Do you mean the guide is pulled down EVERY time the tv launches? That's crazy, why not have a small local DB where you store the guide data (where does it come from anyway, is it embedded or from LG locally?) and then update it like every night? I can really understand that it is slow if it has to load all guide data every single time you start the TV. I am also running Windows Media Center here at home, and there you can have combined guide data, e.g. where no guide data exists from the XML feed from Microsoft, the app is getting the guide data from the DVB-T feed itself, and that is SLOW. Takes about 10 seconds or something. Most sett op boxes also take the guide data from the DVB-stream, and I have never experienced them being so slow... I wonder what the problem is with WebOS? Do report this to LG! /H
  10. Probably they are working on this, since it surely must be considered a "basic" feature. The only way to be sure I guess is that as many people as possible report it as an error. This is a 1st gen OS for the TV, and surely there are lots of things that have scrapped for the first release that I am sure is planned for wither smaller updates, or the next bigger update. That is usually the way it works with consumer electronics these days, they release something decent and then spend 1-3 years fixing all the issues and adding new features. Software becomes obsolete MUCH faster than the actual hardware these days, and that is something most manufacturers have realized. Just look at Samsung and their "evolution kits"... /H
  11. Most of the comments would suggest the software is still somewhat immature. Remember that this is the very first version of WebOS for the TV, and it has only been released for a few months now, and during that time several updates have been released that have resolved some issues. The good news with this is that LG have probably a few years worth of updates to solve these issues until the current hardware is obsolete and you HAVE to buy a whole new TV set. The bad news is of course that we have no idea what kind of items they have on their backlog. I doubt a company like LG have portals like Microsofts "Connect" where e.g. anyone can vote up new features, bugs etc for their products. For us, the only way are through official channels. And the more that report a specific problem, the more likely is that it will be resolved. For a first release, I think the OS is "OK". There are many features missing or not working properly, but I assume (without knowing) that they will be resolved in due time. If not, then the next time I won't buy an LG TV... /H
  12. Have you talked to LG support? They should be able to provide an answer to this. Sometimes it is needed to escalate the issue to someone more "techie" than the people that usually answer support calls. /H
  13. Do we know the difference between 3.2 and 4.0? Maybe it is just localized features such as "today"? I have no clue as of LG's version policies, but a change in major from 3->4 would in my world suggest a major overhaul, multiple new features etc. Is there NO way to get a changelog? /H
  14. Wouldn't it be more practical to have a "Pictures" hub, where you can add "paths" where the pictures are stored. And when you add a path the Pictures app aggregates all picture media from that folder, and present it as a folder structure? Isn't that better than adding shortcuts to UNC-paths on the start menu? I haven't played much with the pictures functionality on the TV, but the way you describe through smartshare sounds very complicated and not something you want to do every single time you want to access your media... /H
  15. Thanks, I have sent a question to the Swedish LG office asking how the TM2 app handles the EPG data used in Sweden. So far no reply. Thankfully it sounds like someone did some thinking when designing the TM2 feature, the questions I ahve had regarding series recording surely must be considered basic features and something to be expected if you implement such a feature. But I have experienced really bad "Series" recording by a samsung smart tv, thankfully it seems as if LG does things more correct. To get a gold star, they have to handle reruns as well with a setting that decide if only record original broardasts or reruns as well... But this is very much dependent on EPG data, and is not something that Windows Media Center handles very well either, since the EPG data from Microsoft in Sweden is rather poor, it is much better in USA. /H
  16. Anyone have any idea on how to notify LG of these issues? I have never experienced these bad translations with products from Microsoft for example. /H
  17. Well this is a community form, and I am unaware that LG people are visiting this site, maybe they do, but they sure don't let us know anything about it. Over at the webOS developer forum, http://developer.lge.com/webOSTV/community/forum/ the developers from LG are frequently answering developer questions. Some people have tried to submit bugs and feature requests, but get reminded by the korean LG staff that this is not the correct forum, but they should rather contact LG support. Register, and give it a try. But I doubt anyone will listen, that is the problem with big companies that are not primarily a software development company. One use asked the LG developers if they kindly could provide us with "release notes" for each update, but the answer was that it is not company policy. Meh! Good luck! I also wish there was a way for us "super users" to work more closely with the LG webOS team, but I guess it is a distant dream. I wonder if they do any beta testing, and how? /H
  18. Some follow up questions to the series recording feature in "time machine 2" * If I am in the middle of watching a show, and press the record button on the standard remote, what happens? In WMC it starts recording the current show and stops when the show is finished. * I don't know how many weeks of guide data the epg holds, WMC holds about 2 weeks. My question is what will happen if you ask TM2 to record a series, which has say 14 episodes and only 2 are "visible" in the guide data, does it keep adding recordings when new occurences of that series appear in the new guide data? WMC performs some data grooming every time the guide data is updated, checking of any of the shoes set as series recording appear in th enew guide data, and then add recording tasks accordingly. /H
  19. I guess the only thing to do is to call LG support and submit a problem ticket. It is unlikely they will change these things otherwise. H - Someone who has worked in software development for the past 15 years...
  20. Sorry I do not, I assumed it was specified in the owner's manual? Does the HDD run on a separate powersource or power from the UBS itself? Is it USB2/USB3? Maybe try a different USB cable? I have had hardware in the past that worked like a charm with 1 cable and very shaky with another... /H
  21. Hi! I have compared the specs on these two devices, and the 730 costs about twice the money (1750 Euros) compared to the 650V (995 Euros), but the difference I can see is that the 730 has a slightly faster CPU and some more RAM and a refresh rate of 200 Hz compared to 100 of the 650V. I also noticed that the 730 has a slightly thinner frame, but they seem to have the exact same thickness (55 mm). Since we don't have any retailers around here with these models, I have been unable to look at them in a store, so all the info I get is from pics on internet. /H
  22. Have we heard ANYTHING at all from LG on this matter? I am also thinking about buying myself a 2014 webOS TV, and it would S-CK big time if they released a new model in 2015 wit a new webOS version, leaving their old customers abandoned. These things doesn't exactly come cheap, and since the software feels somewhat "unfinished", I would expect it to evolve during the following years. I would happily pay for webOS 2.0, just as long as I can update... Samsung did a great thing with their "evolution kit"...
  23. Have you talked to LG support? Does the HDD you use meet the requirements specified by LG? /H
  24. Hi! Another few questions just bubbled up * Is there a way to see how much space there is available on the HDD? * What is the standard timeskip buffer set to? in Wiindows Media Center, it is set to 60 minutes * What is the default way to scroll through video (live tv, recorde tv etc) Is it by step (like 3 minutes forward and 1.5 minutes back) or is it by 2x, 4x, 16x ff or rwd, like the old VCR players? * Any way to see which tv shows are sceduled to be recorded? * How do I cancel a series recording, and how do I cancel just one occurence of a series recording? regards Henrik
  25. I would love an enhanced magic remote but with the mandatory play/stop/rec/skip/ff/rwd buttons... I definitely agree with the concept of pointing at stuff as compared to the "old" way of using the arrow buttons to step through all controls on the screen, but I'd hate to switch remote too often... and pointing and clicking while lying down in the tv sofa half asleep "zapping" through content is something that is exercised very often here at home Maybe LG will release a modified magic remote, or maybe any 3rd party vendors release one... /S
