After viewing photos/videos on a flashdrive plugged into the USB of an LG TV and using SmartShare to view... and then removing the USB and then no longer having access to the TV... I noticed on the flashdrive a new folder called "LG TV" and within what appears to be files that may have been the thumbnails displayed on the TV. My question is... do those thumbnails also remain on the TV as "recently viewed" history even without the USB plugged in? The LG Smart TV online user guide refers to "Recent" ("To view a list of recently viewed or added content, select Recent). Would thumbnails be there without the source flashdrive?

I have read the usb drive limit is 2tb. Has this changed ? Do 4tb or 8tb drives work with WebOS ? Thank you

Hi everyone. I have a quite recent LG 43UM74507LA smart TV (2019 model). The current software version is the 05.10.25. I can read on the guide that the maximum suggested size for an external USB-connected drive is 2 TB. But what does it mean suggested? That it might be dangerous in some form for the hard drive to connect a unit which is larger than 2 TB? I am asking this because I actually use to connect a 4 TB external hard drive (a portable WD elements), with single NTFS partition, just to watch some video files (so no recording or else), and it works just perfectly. No problem of any sort. That's why I am very confused. I should also add that this drive is almost full (it contains 3.6 TB of data), and this does not affect the readability by the TV. I am indeed considering to buy another hard disk (exactly because the former one is almost full 😄), and I am considering a 8 TB WD Elements Destkop, which will be also formatted in NTFS (the only difference is that this one must be plugged to power as well, while the former only requires to be plugged to the TV via USB). Now, since the former 4 TB hard drive actually works, despite the "official suggestion", should I be confident that also the 8 TB one will work? Would you suggest me to proceed with buying that? Thank you very much in advance for your answers!

So, it's the year 2018 and all the documentation I have found online says that LG TV's USB storage are limited to a max capacity of 2TB... nowadays that's considered rather small in terms of PVR and play backing of HDR 10bit content. I've ordered a the LG 49sj800v which is due to be delivered in the next couple of weeks so I am in the process of preparing the hard drive ready for it, which I have a WD Red 6TB however after reading it seems to be limited to 2TB?! which surprises me because the TV even has a USB 3.0 port. It is from my understanding that FAT32 is limited to 2TB and NTFS is limited to 16TB which brings me to my question(s): Does the 2TB limitation still apply in WebOS 3.5? if the limitation does still apply is the limitation caused by Hardware or Software? If the limiation does still apply can you use multiple partitions or is the limitation the entire drive? PS. I plan to use NTFS.

recordings on WebOS tv failing with "unable to load"
Peter Johnson posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
I am trying to record terrestrial digital programs from my 2016 LG webosTV to a USB stick- if I set up a few programs to record, a few work, but after a day or two it will fail. and from that point all will fail. The TV does still try to record, as I can see it pop up a notification if I am watching, but nothing is recorded. (No error message is shown then.) If I look at the "scheduled recordings" page, it shows an error, and "Unable to load" for the start and end time of the failed show. If I go to "recording history" for that show, I see a message saying "incomplete, Cable/broadcast service changed programming" but that can't be the case for so many different shows, There is plenty of space on the USB stick. I have tried LG support, but they can't tell me what the message means, and suggest returning the TV for repair. As a side note: I don't usually watch terrestrial TV through the television- we still use Sky (which is why I want to get this working!) I only say that in case it was a reason that show schedule information is not being updated. Any help or suggestions gratefully received.- 6 replies

I have been thinking would it be possible to make a HDMI switch that connects to the TV (maybe via USB to control it), the TV knows it's a switch and add virtual HDMI's and by selecting one of the virtual HDMI's is tell the switch to select the correct port.

Heya I am looking for a way to make my SanDisk 128GB USB3 stick work for "live playback" aka time machine. I have formatted the stick with the HP USB Tool (quick format in Fat32) but the TV refuses to use it for TimeShift recording. Regular recordings do work however. Is there any other way to format the stick, or is the stick too big?

Hi I've got the LG OLED55B7V. I have connected a Chromecast to HDMI4 and USB power from USB port 3. Is there any way to not turn off usb power on this USB port, or any other USB port, when turning off the TV? Since webOS still doesn't have a Spotify app i need a Chromecast to listen to music, and so i would like to have the Chromecast powered from the TV but the TV turned off. I know i can use screenmode to only turn off the screen, but since i can't enable that with a single button from my remote control this isn't a good enough solution.

Wonder if anyone might be able to suggest a suitable USB Hard Disk Drive for my LG 43UJ630V 43 inch 4K Ultra HD HDR Smart LED TV (2017 Model) I did ask LG support about why these TV's cannot record properly to USB Flash Drives and they just said it doesn't work - not what they advertise is it? They informed me the recording will work with USB Hard Drive but did not suggest any suitable models which given the TV's seot em to be using USB 2.0 and all available USB HDD now are at least USB 3.0 I would appreciate informed suggestions as to compatible models. The two I suggested to LG support were these which they state are not compatible. - Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB Portable External Hard Drive 2.5 Inch USB 3.0, HDTB310EK3AA - Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch So which models are compatible and why are LG using slow, years out of date, USB 2.0 in 2017anyway?

Make 2017 TV sets that have latest USB ports, at least 3.0 so it is possible to find a compatible USB HDD WebOS will work properly with. Install sufficient memory to run WebOS Apps without constant restarts or inform customers apps may not work properly. Put a clearly accessible filer by Genre choice from the main program guide (something Toshiba TV and others have had for many years on their EPG's). Going out of the main EPG into the limited snapshot guide then finding the sort by Genre option is clunky. A zoom function on the main EPG to show more than just a couple of hours ahead would be ideal as well. Even my £70 supermarket own brand TV can manage these simple functions so come on LG match up.

I am using LG 43UH650T and updated to the latest software. When I connect my WD HDD having 2 partitions to the TV, it is detecting only one partition and not able to access the other partition. I was using Samsung Series 5 LCD TV from 2010 onwards and in that TV there is an an option to change device which was easy to switch the partitions. Please advice me to solve this in LG TV.

Hi all, I'm new here as I just got my LG webos tv and a USB blu-ray drive also LG. Sorry if this is the wrong part of forum. The TV is a http://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-42LF652V with WebOS 2.0 and the blu-ray is a http://www.lg.com/us/burners-drives/lg-BP50NB40-external-blu-ray-dvd-drive Since the USB blu-ray drive has a "tv mode" and both it and the TV are LG I had high hopes that they will work together and I will be able to see disks by connecting it directly to the TV. If I connect them as such it seems I can only see the contents of the disks in smart-share as any other USB drive (regardless if I enter tv-mode) but UNLESS is an original (protected?) disk in which case the drive appears empty (video disks as one made for me by a contracted photographer work as such). I only tested it with DVDs as I don't have any blu-ray yet. If I enter "tv mode" on the usb unit the TV shows an usb connection error message yet it still works from smart-share as I sayed...not at home now to give you the exact message but it sayed to remove and try reconnect it. Can you please tell me if there is any solution to see original disks in such setup. Anything to get over that connection error? Or maybe an webos media player app capable to see usb connected optical drives?...yet I can't find any myself. Thanks, Luke

Hi all. This TV model only has 1 USB port so I was wondering if I could use an USB hub so I can connect multiple devices at the same time to the TV..if so, does it require separate power supply? has anyone tried it? Thanks.
