TV model: UK6300PLB (software updated) TV connection: ethernet cable doesn't matter, cable or wifi the effect is the same (the system has an obvious bug, when simultaneously connected via cable and wifi - same router, applications cannot connect to the internet) PC system: Kubuntu 22.04 (Linux pc 5.15.0-47-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 11 07:51:15 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) minidlna version: 1.3.0+dfsg-2.1 Firewall status: doesn't matter, on or off the effect is the same The TV sees the DLNA server some time after turning it on, then no more. If I do not start playback within this short time of availability, the dlna server disappears from the list of available sources. If at this time I turn on playback from the computer, then after a long while the video is played seemingly normally, but all player control functions become unavailable, the buttons simply do not respond, and in the list of available inputs there is no longer a dlna server. The minidln logs on the computer show no cause, just an unexpected http connection breakup: upnphttp.c:1082: debug: HTTP Connection closed unexpectedly. I checked the availability of the server on several Android devices, everything works fine.

Hi there, So VLC (via DLNA) does not see LG TV webOS as renderer option. Even Windows 7 (via Explorer / Windows Media Player) sees it. What's special about LG TV webOS DLNA implementation that VLC does not see it? Thanks, PS: Some other related posts on this. Hello friends, I have setup a home network in Windows 10, I think it uses DLNA. I can play all the files from the computer or the USB stick in the router with no issue but the external subtitles (correctly named) are not working in my 65C9, only internal ones. If I access the same files in the network from a computer, there is no problem and subtitles are shown, it's only the TV not displaying them. Can someone help in how to make external subs work when played from a local network or what to check? Thanks

Connect external drive to TV over network
Rukmaj Chandavar posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
Hi All, I recently bought a LG Smart TV with WebOS (42LB6500) and would like to connect to my external hard disk connected over network. Here is how my home network and devices are setup. I have a high speed broadband that comes to my WiFi router (D-Link DSL 2750U) with USB support for External HDD. I have connected my Seagate Ex.HDD to this router and I am able to access the drive over WiFi on my smartphone and computer using the network path \\192.168.1.1\... Once connected I am able to use it similar to any mount location, i.e., read/write files, play media, etc., I want to do similarly with my TV, I would like to use this connected Ex. HDD as any other location and would like to achieve following two things at the least without any additional hardwarePlay media files on this HDD (very very important) Use the HDD as recording device for timeshift/live pause feature (important) Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Rukmaj- 11 replies

I have the following setup: LG 55EF950V television which is running webOS 2.2.0-1317 (this should be the latest version of the OS). I have a number of video files on my Synology DiskStation DS413 NAS which I connect to with the TV over DLNA (on the TV this is Smart Share -> Devices -> (NAS)) I can see all the video files and play them etc., however when viewing the list of files I dont see any thumb images even though I have a JPEG image for each file. For example: "My Video.mkv" has a thumb call "My Video.jpg". For collections I put a "cover.jpg" image in the directory (this doesnt work either on the LG TV). Has anyone else out there managed to get a webOS 2 TV to show video thumb nail images for videos over DLNA? BTW: this all works when I use a Samsung TV so I dont think it has anything to do with the way the Synology DiskStation DS413 NAS is setup.

Few days ago I received my new 55EG920V 4k OLED TV 2015 model with passive 3D and after a brief testing it turned out that 4k over DLNA isn't supported in WebOS2.0 - LG customer support already confirmed that. Of course, this limitation isn’t explicitly stated anywhere, neither in the the owner’s manual nor on the LG official website. The same MKV HEVC file would play well enough through USB, but not DLNA. So for the unlucky WebOS2.0 4k TV owners, the only way of playing 4k content from the home network is through USB. This is mind blowing, in the high speed internet connections and gigabyte ethernet era, LG force its own customers to move USB sticks between computer and TV. Leaving out important information through omission means misleading commercial practices: http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/unfair-treatment/unfair-commercial-practices/index_en.htm. Are LG or WebOS developers willing to fix this issue through a future firmware update? PS. the passive 3D is spectacular, this is the main reason I bought this somehow outdated 4k TV PS2. could someone with a WebOS3.0 or 3.5 TV confirm that 4k over DLNA is supported with this newer OS versions?

External subtitles when video is streamed via DLNA
pojar posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
Hello, I have LG 43UJ620V and I've been trying to play video in mkv format streamed via DLNA, subtitle file is in .srt format in the same folder as the video and with same name. But the TV doesn't show subtitle. However, to play the same video from a USB, TV perfectly reproduces the video with subtitles. I'm running Rygel from Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I wonder if there is still no support in WebOS for external subtitles via DLNA. Update: Nevermind. Got it. Support for external subtitle was added in most recent code of Rygel. -
It would be super handy to have the ability to create a bookmark (a tab on the home menu) to make it easy to return to any location on a DLNA server. It has taken weeks to discover the folder browsing option hidden in Smart Share, but it still requires drilling down through the nested folders to get to the good stuff. A bookmarking feature once you're in a folder would be awesome. E

2 LG Smart TVs, only one is seeing DLNA server
mmerc2004 posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
I have 2 LG TV's both running different versions of WebOS 3.x (UJ6300 and UH6550). The 6550 picks up my DLNA NAS, but the 6300 does not AFTER I unplugged and moved my NAS. Everything else works fine - can see the storage on my computer on the other TV (and play content), but not on the 6300. This used to work fine, but after cleaning up my server room, this one TV is uncooperative. Any ideas? -
Streamed picture not shown full screen (best fit)
Appergioz posted a question in LG webOS Smart TV Questions
Hi all, I have a question in using SmartShare on LG WebOS 2.0 (my LG TV is 43UF770T, a 2015 model). Recently I often use the TV to view pictures from files located in my NAS through DLNA capabilities in SmartShare app. I found out that when I view pictures with resolution smaller than 4K, then the pictures are shown in the center of the TV screen and cannot be shown full screen (automatic best-fit). This is quite annoying because when viewing older photos taken from old phones with 1920 x 1080 resolution for example, then the picture will look small because it is not shown full screen. For comparison, when viewing video files, the TV automatically resizes the images until best-fit full screen, i.e. video with smaller resolution than 4K still shown full screen. This is exactly what I want. Does anyone here know how to get full screen image shown for smaller pictures (auto resize upscale to best fit full screen), just as with video files in SmartShare? Many thanks in advance.-

Hello! I like my OLED55C6V-Z very much, because it is the main part of my home theater, but it would be really great if my TV could translate sound stream from DLNA to HDMI-ARC "as is" without any changes or processing, just in Pass-Through mode. Because most DLNA-mediaservers can translate video and audio streams of videofiles without any processing. Because now when I watch a video with DTS-MasterAudio or DolbyTrueHD from DLNA-mediaserver on my TV connected with AV-receiver through HDMI-ARC, AV-receiver get only DTS or DolbyDigital and it is very pity since AV-receiver is able to handle DTS-MasterAudio or DolbyTrueHD absolutely properly. Thank you in advance!

I managed to see my dlna server (NAS drive, networked media center) when I first got my TV a few months ago using the Photos & videos app, but now there doesn't seem to be any option to look for it anymore? I've searched high and low through all the apps, even downloaded a few, but to no avail - anyone have any suggestions as to have w to connect to networked media devices?

Hail, i'm web programmer and buy new LGsmart TV about week ago but after searching on internet i cant find any recommended directory structure for Movie,Music or Picture that on my TV shows the Covert of Music/Album or Movie Poster. I use picard music tagger that save inside the album `cover.jpg` of music album art. but seems be LG web os dosnt show it. How can i show the cover of album music instead of default folder Icon in smartshare part. I got same question about movie. contain movie poster. After all LG or any devices must have Linux clients for smartshare .. i use minidlna and lg must support this tiny usefull app to help us to connect lg smart devices like TV. After all WebOs is also linux based os. we need somthing like windows or mac software on most popular distros like Ubuntu.

Hi LG, your Web OS is really well built, but there are a few essential features lacking. Such as: - Folder filtering in the SmartShare App (We all need this ASAP, the navigation is a nightmare!). - Audio stream selection within video files in the SmartShare App. - A PLEX App the collaborates nicely with the PLEX Client. - Faster start up times. From when you power on the TV to being able to quickly access the home menu and change the Volume, channel, etc. If you have to just offer an option to put the TV into a low power state/sleep (for as long as the user wishes) so you can resume quick menu navigation almost straight away. (and unlike Sony don't make it so after a few hours of the TV being asleep it fully powers down. (THIS IS NOT USEFULL, and is the reason I took my Sony TV back to JB HI-FI And bought yours). You could call this feature "PowerAct", or "instant on" it would make 'Life Good' and easier - Auto backlight brightness? I have the Australian LB 6500 and I can't seem to find a Auto-Backlight/dimming feature anywhere, and seeing as I use it in my room, when the lights are off I want it to dim so I don't go blind. I don't know if you've implemented a Ambient light sensor or not, but for $1,800 I would think you should have. - If you would Like anymore Feedback/Suggestions, Feature requests or ideas from me then just PM me or write on this thread Thank you LG, and thank you for being one of the very few 'Innovative' companies around today.
