Portable Hard Drive intermittent error discovering it

Question

Posted

I have an LG65UR80006LJ and when I plug my portable hard drive in to one of the USB ports, it lights up and sometimes the thumbnail folder gets added by the TV (I can see it when I plug the drive back into my PC) and twice now it has operated as expected and it appears as a device on the media app.

But it has only worked correctly twice and now doesn't find the drive at all, despite me having reformatted it and only add one file to the root directory (the first page if this makes sense; not buried in sub folders.)

Before I box the TV back up and send it back, is there anything else I need/can do as my 12 year old Philips smart tv has no problems what so ever finding the drive and playing the media on it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies and my apologies for the delay in responding.

It turns out the TV was defective as I did everything LG said, but no luck, so returned it to the store, had a new one delivered today and it recognised the hard drive immediately, although it did then say it need to be formatted and asked if it was drive a or b, so i selected a and it then completed the formatting and I was able to access the media on it and play it.

So problem solved; defective TV.

Glad you found the solution

For others, note that I had a similar problem very recently with an older TV, 2 years old

Drop out of connection to hard disk

I tracked it down to a faulty cable connecting the drive to the TV
A new cable for $3 and all is fine again
