for Digital Signage Used in Outdoor Environments

SEOUL,
Aug. 1, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its advanced Anti-Discoloration™ technology for outdoor digital signage. Verified by respected standards and testing organization, UL Solutions, LG’s new tech helps prevent ‘screen-yellowing,’ a common issue for outdoor digital signage products caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight. This innovative tech simultaneously safeguards display quality and performance stability, ultimately helping extend the lifespan of LG digital signage used in outdoor environments.

LG is the first company to achieve UL verification for the display anti-discoloration characteristic technology for digital signage. LG developed a comprehensive testing methodology and defect-evaluation criteria, and UL Solutions independently assessed the product to the criteria in support of LG’s marketing claim. Prior to this, there were no internationally recognized standards or testing methods for measuring a display’s resistance to screen-yellowing.

The use of outdoor displays in settings such as drive-thru restaurants, bus stops, schools and sports stadiums has become commonplace in recent years and is steadily increasing across a variety of B2B sectors. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the screens of these versatile display products to turn a yellowish color over time. LG’s Anti-Discoloration™ technology helps address this issue, reinforcing the quality and durability of the company’s outdoor digital signage solutions.

LG developed its protective technology to provide better value to B2B customers utilizing digital signage in outdoor environments. The company’s research indicated that customers were having to replace their outdoor signage products at a faster rate and experiencing service interruptions due to persistent discoloration issues. To address these pain points, LG’s outdoor displays with Anti-Discoloration™ technology also incorporate advanced thermal solutions and panel materials for added reliability, even in the toughest of conditions. UL Verified product incorporating Anti-Discoloration™ technology has already been implemented in several of the latest LG high-brightness outdoor signage products, with plans to expand its application to a wider range of solutions in the future.

“Our UL Verification of products with Anti-Discoloration™ technology actively reinforces the performance and quality of our digital signage products,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Business Solutions Company. “Through targeted research and development programs, we will continue to identify and resolve any inconveniences that detract from the overall LG digital signage experience, thereby continuously enhancing customer satisfaction and trust.”

LG is dedicated to enriching the lives of people in the communities where it operates. Recently, LG offices in Vietnam and Thailand made significant contributions by donating various LG products to support local initiatives. These acts of generosity underscore LG’s global commitment to corporate social responsibility and demonstrate the positive impact a company can have when it invests in the well-being of its local communities.

In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year, or Tet, is a time of family reunions and shared experiences, with television playing a central role in these celebrations. To enhance the Tet experience for the people of Yen Bai Province, LG Vietnam donated 40 LG TVs to families who suffered significant losses during Typhoon Yagi. As part of its annual campaign, “Tet Nha la Tet Nhat” (Family Tet is the Best Tet), LG Vietnam extended support to 40 households facing severe hardships, including families of war veterans and those with meritorious services to the revolution, in the districts of Van Yen, Luc Yen and Tran Yen.

No district suffered the wrath of Typhoon Yagi more than Van Yen, where the natural disaster destroyed vast areas, damaging, eroding or completely destroying countless houses. Large stretches of cropland along the rivers and streams were submerged in deep water, causing havoc to the lives and livelihoods of the locals. Last year,

Since Tet 2024, LG kicked off the “Tet Nha la Tet Nhat” campaign, named after the respected proverb “Tet Nhat.” “Tet” represents a meaningful time of year when Vietnamese people prepare the best for their families, while “Nhat,” meaning “best,” aligns with LG OLED TV’s global leadership and the world-class quality of its advanced products.

The Year of the Snake marks 30 years of LG’s presence in Vietnam, symbolizing a deep commitment to continuous innovation and creative solutions for smart living. This milestone reflects LG’s dedication to improving the lives of Vietnamese customers and fulfilling its Life’s Good vision.

In Thailand, LG recently donated 50 LG gram laptops to the Thailand Collaboration for Education (TCFE) program, an initiative of the Yuvabadhana Foundation. This donation, valued at over 2,301,000 baht (USD 68,000), will benefit over 400 students at Nikomphimaisuksa School in Nakhon Ratchasima province and Piyabut School in Lopburi province, both of which lack adequate computer equipment for effective digital learning.

The donated laptops are high-performance, lightweight LG gram models equipped with Intel Core Ultra 5 Processors, making them ideal for modern AI software applications. Students in lower secondary school (Mathayom 1-3) will use these laptops to access digital curricula in science, mathematics and English. Upper secondary students (Mathayom 4-6) will leverage the laptops’ AI capabilities for advanced learning, including data analysis and enhanced comprehension.

The TCFE program aims to reduce educational inequality and promote sustainable education in Thailand by focusing on four key areas: educational accessibility, teaching and learning quality development, life skills and moral cultivation and nutrition support. LG’s laptop donation directly supports two of these areas: improving access to education by providing equipment to remote schools and enhancing teaching and learning quality by enabling digital curriculum implementation.

This donation reflects LG’s belief in the transformative power of AI in education and its commitment to ensuring all Thai youth have access to this technology. The company views this donation as part of its ongoing support for AI education in Thailand, which includes equipment donations, expertise sharing and future initiatives.
From providing essential appliances to enhancing educational opportunities, LG Vietnam and LG Thailand are actively making a difference in the lives of those around them. To learn more about the activities of LG offices around the globe, visit the .

Presenting Elevated Visual-spatial Experiences with LG’s AI-powered Kinetic LED
LG is set to capture the attention of ISE visitors with its gigantic “shape-shifting” Kinetic LED display. Installed at the entrance of the company’s exhibition booth, the Kinetic LED employs cutting-edge AI technology to enthrall, entertain and amaze. Have you ever wondered how many LG OLED TVs are shipped every year? 100 thousand units perhaps, maybe as much as a million? In the first half of 2023, LG recorded over 1.33 million shipments of its stunning OLED TVs, setting new benchmarks and records its competitors can only dream of.
      According to market research firm
link hidden, please login to view, LG captured over 55 percent of the global OLED TV market in the first six months based on total shipments. As a renowned OLED TV leader now celebrating 10 years of innovation in this space, LG has once again defended its premium TV crown while further cementing LG OLED TV’s status as the pinnacle of premium TVs.
The “bigger the better” trend continues to prevail in the TV market, which is great news for LG. As more and more people desire larger TVs for their living spaces, models of 75 inches or larger accounted for a remarkable 11.4 percent share of total OLED TVs sold, while shipments’ yearly average growth rate topped 90 percent over the past five years. Staying on top of this growing trend, LG is resuming its dominance in the market with an outstanding 64.2 percent share in total shipments of OLED TVs over 75 inches.
LG is targeting this new demand for large and premium TVs in the second half of 2023 with the groundbreaking TV (model 97M3) it unveiled in July, which boasts the world’s first 4K 120Hz wireless solution that makes it easy for customers to achieve their dream interior.

Not one to be confined, LG unleashed a tidal wave of 10 million TV units (OLED and LCD) on the world, which has helped the company carve out a 16.2 percent share of revenue for itself in the global TV market.
Despite facing a downturn in the global TV market, LG persisted in strengthening its inventory management and securing higher profits while actively pursuing a strategic approach for its premium and ultra-large displays. And this commitment has paid off substantially, with its LG OLED TVs now accounting for around 30 percent of the company’s overall revenue generated from TV sets.

TV shipments totaled over 92 million units in the first half of 2023, matching last year’s first half performance. The OLED TV segment, which has been led by LG for a number of years, has already passed the 2 million shipments mark this year, which bodes well for the rest of 2023.
OLED TVs are continuing their takeover of the global TV market after capturing 9.3 percent of all revenue in the first half. Meanwhile, Omdia predicts that OLED TVs are set to shine even brighter, projecting at least a 43 percent revenue share among premium TVs priced above USD 1,500.
