Hi,

I too have the same issue with my LG 42LB750T+1 TB Western Digital passport.  The HD is detected on my laptop, it is in NTFS format but fails to show up on the TV.

I've tested with a 2GB USB Stick and 250GB WD Hard Disk(both FAT32), it is able to detect both of those.

Is it a problem with the WD Hard disk? I've read online that NTFS works properly for larger capacity drives for some people.

Any info will be helpful.

Thanks,

Komail

Hi Thuan1979/Komali,

I got my 1 TB WD passport HDD detected and able to play 1080p movies on my LG 42LB6500 TV.

I did the following steps.

1) Take a back-up of your data in HDD.

2) connect to Laptop / PC. In My computer find you HDD, Right Click; select format.

3) In format Pop-up menu, change file system to NTFS, change Allocation Unit Size to 16 kilobytes.

4) Click Start.

5) Copy movies  to HDD after Formating. Connect to your TV's USB/HDD port (earlier LG models had USB ports marked also as HDD, try connecting to these ports if HDD is mentioned).

6) WebOs Models will detect the HDD as soon as you connect it to USB/HDD  port (try USB port 1).

Try these and let me know if it helps. WebOs will create a new folder in you HDD.

Hi Komali,

I understand that you have lots of DATA in you 1TB HDD. Try to find a way to take a back up somewhere.

Or else buy a new HDD dedicatedly for TV. From my experience Segate HDD's were getting detected without all this formatting.

As of now i dont have any other solution with me for this issue?

Hi Komail,
Your TV should detect your HDD as it supports upto 2TB(NTFS).
You should check it with another HDD. If your friend have one then try it. Also if any of your friend or neighbor have Smart TV then try connect your HDD on that TV.
If still this problem persist then you must format your HDD.

Hello,

I am  a newbie. Recently I have purchased LG42LB6500. I have two 1TB WD my passport, whereas one is loaded with all movies, music, data and other is loaded with just some files less than 1GB. The strange problem I am facing is that one of my 1TB WD (which has only files) is getting detected when connected to TV whereas the other (which as all movies, music, data) doesn't. Can anyone help me on this.

Here is additional info: Later, after connecting, I just waited and then surprisingly the second 1TB WD (which as all movies, music, data) also got detected but has taken almost 20 mins of time. I could able to see the folder structure on the TV and even tried playing a movie. Noticed that the movie was running, I could see the seekbar is running but am not able to hear (or) see the movie. What could be the problem?

Hello Everyone ...

I have recently bought the LG 50LB6520, and since, it frustrates me everyday i use it ...

the Web Browser, i cannot play a music file or live streaming radio in one tab and open a new one, the player in the first tab stops

YouTube, if i put it in pause, and tried to resume, it starts from the very beginning of the video

And the worst disaster i had with it, was regarding my 2 External HDDs 1TB each, which I had for nearly 5 years now, and contains all my universe, Programs, Family albums (Scanned old images, weddings, camera photos, a total size more than 100 GB), Games, Movies, Cartoons, Songs and Music, downloads .. i've had them for 5 years .. Oh My Merciful God

first i connected the 1TB hdd of my brother, and played some movies to try the new TV set and its capabilities .. I tried to find the option to UnPlug them .. but couldn't find it, so I assumed that it supports the direct UnPlug normally like the pc and everything went normal nothing happen to his hdd, his hdd mostly had fewer number of folders and mostly was movies..

when i tried to connect mine for the first time

they didn't work in the first time .. (now from the post I knew that they may needed like 20 Minutes after they are plugged .. How Come .. to be ready)

Plug .. Un-Plug .. Plug .. Un-Plug exchanging on both of them .. but sure nothing of them has worked

the disaster was when i tried to attach it to my laptop ..

1- Toshiba: was detected on the computer, and the drive letter appeared, but no size bar, and trying to browse it, it gives an error in the disk, the disk may be corrupted

2- WD MyPassport: was detected and showed the disk size and the remaining disk space, but when browsed it, I found the folder structure i had appearing as Unknown file icons with 0 kb size, also i found 2 new folders i didn't had before, and in one of them i found 1 folder form the Family Album (Camera) and it had the sub folders of it .. where does this came from ..

later on .. after searching for the problem with the HDDs

i've been able to "chkdsk /f y:" for the Toshiba, and restored that drive

but this didn't affect the WD

and to be so stupid as normal people .. i tried to put the toshiba back to the tv ..

this time .. i've been connecting a thump stick and detaching it .. and in one of these times it showed me a warning .. not to unplug it with the tv on .. as this might cause some problems

so .. i kept the tv off, plugged the hdd, opened the tv .. didnt read it .. turned off .. unplugged the hdd .. plugged to the laptop and BOOOOM ANOTHER 2 FOLDERS APPEARS AS 0 KB FILES .. THE WEBOS MUST BE FAULTY ..

please if anyone can help .. it would be sooo much appreciated, i can even pay him if he demands .. i just want my data back

I am using my WD 1TB HDD without any problem. My TV model is LB6700. I am from India. WebOS version is different for different-different areas.

I don't know what is the problem but you might get your data back.

You mentioned that your HDD showing size correctly but files are missing; it is possible that your files are hidden (Also check show system files while viewing hidden files).

If that is not the case than you can use some good recovery tool i.e. MiniTool Power Data Recovery, Getdata Recover My Files. It is still possible that you might lost some files even after using recovery tool.

If that also don't work than try to contact Toshiba/WD customer care and ask them if they provide any facility for recovering data. They sure can get your data because they can go to very lower level of your drive.

There is no doubt in my mind that WebOs is faulty and so many people are facing problems regarding HDD either of detection problem or corruption problem.

The read time is depended on how much files you have in your hard drive for example if you have 10,000 pictures total of 1GB size and one HDD with only one 1GB file than HDD contains pictures will take longer than HDD contains only single file. I don't know why but TV it is not working like PCs in HDD detection (I am not expert on this but I am telling you this by my personal experience)

And yes you need some extra space to recover your files; a big problem in your case because if I am not wrong you might have more than 1.5TB of data from both HDD together

Even I too had this problem of late/failed detection of my Seagate 1 TB HDD on my LG TV webOS 2.0.

HDD works fine when connected to my laptop(NTFS format) . I checked my HDD content and found that there were some files created with name "ntfschk....."  on root folder of HDD(i dont remember creating them). I deleted them and connected back to TV and it is working smoothly. :D

Hope this helps some of you.

Hello Everyone ..

let me describe my experience in this subject

1- how fast the HDD is read on the TV is relative to the a. Content Types, b. Folder Structure, c. amount of data

My HDD had mixed content, and very deep folder structure, I'm talking about the daily usage of Personal and Business staff, documents, programs, pictures, movies, music, games, downloads, ... etc., this is how I've been using it, and wanted to play the movies on the TV

currently now I turn on the TV, attach the HDD, and do whatever for about 10-20 mins, while its being read and appear in the SmartShare app.

2- I've attached other HDDs that has only Movies on it, and/or has some other few content types but not large amount, and it worked in a flash, just plug it in and pooof it is on the SmartShare

3- @Rajc123, these "ntfschk....." folders you deleted:

a- they are there - most probably - because you have plugged then unplugged your HDD before being read probably, unplugged the HDD with the TV Turned on, which is a very serious mistake that threatening you will loose your precious data on the HDD

b- Do Not Delete Them Again before you explore their content and make sure that they are Really Empty or has data you don't need anymore, in my case they always had pictures, documents, or files from various location on the HDD, like one time i found a folder of my brother's images, which originally was on the Family Photos Folder ...

c- How did they get to this folder?? honestly i don't know ... but I do know that the folder named "ntfschk...." is being created when the HDD is being checked and contains like the fragmented files on the disk ...

4- the correct way to use the HDD on the TV is:

     a. Attach the HDD, doesn't matter the TV is on or off

     b. Wait .. Wait ... Be Patient, Wait until you are sure it is working and appear in the smart share or whatever application you are intended to use.

     c. to unplug the HDD, Turn off the TV, and wait until the light indicator is off, or you are sure that it is stopped.

     d. even if it wasn't yet appeared on the TV, Turn off the TV before unplugging the HDD

Company’s Latest Innovation Provides Enhanced Protection Against Screen-Yellowing
for Digital Signage Used in Outdoor Environments

SEOUL, Aug. 1, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) is introducing its advanced Anti-Discoloration technology for outdoor digital signage. Verified by respected standards and testing organization, UL Solutions, LG’s new tech helps prevent ‘screen-yellowing,’ a common issue for outdoor digital signage products caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight. This innovative tech simultaneously safeguards display quality and performance stability, ultimately helping extend the lifespan of LG digital signage used in outdoor environments.
LG is the first company to achieve UL verification for the display anti-discoloration characteristic technology for digital signage. LG developed a comprehensive testing methodology and defect-evaluation criteria, and UL Solutions independently assessed the product to the criteria in support of LG’s marketing claim. Prior to this, there were no internationally recognized standards or testing methods for measuring a display’s resistance to screen-yellowing.
The use of outdoor displays in settings such as drive-thru restaurants, bus stops, schools and sports stadiums has become commonplace in recent years and is steadily increasing across a variety of B2B sectors. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the screens of these versatile display products to turn a yellowish color over time. LG’s Anti-Discoloration technology helps address this issue, reinforcing the quality and durability of the company’s outdoor digital signage solutions.
LG developed its protective technology to provide better value to B2B customers utilizing digital signage in outdoor environments. The company’s research indicated that customers were having to replace their outdoor signage products at a faster rate and experiencing service interruptions due to persistent discoloration issues. To address these pain points, LG’s outdoor displays with Anti-Discoloration technology also incorporate advanced thermal solutions and panel materials for added reliability, even in the toughest of conditions. UL Verified product incorporating Anti-Discoloration technology has already been implemented in several of the latest LG high-brightness outdoor signage products, with plans to expand its application to a wider range of solutions in the future.
“Our UL Verification of products with Anti-Discoloration technology actively reinforces the performance and quality of our digital signage products,” said Paik Ki-mun, senior vice president and head of the Information Display business unit of LG Business Solutions Company. “Through targeted research and development programs, we will continue to identify and resolve any inconveniences that detract from the overall LG digital signage experience, thereby continuously enhancing customer satisfaction and trust.”
