Hi guys, i recently bought the  Lg 42LB650V and yesterday it automatically updated, and i have a problem, when i am using a app for log time, like watching video on youtube, after a while it say's me something like "Out of Memory, app closed". Please help me what can i do. It displayed this error before the update but never in the youtube app, only when browsing. and i have another problem, when i am watching a video on the web browser, after 10-15 minutes, it displays the same out of memory error, and i watched the same video on my friend's lg smart tv that hasn't got webOs, has got the old Lg smart tv OS, cinema 3d , and i watched the complete video without any error, and did lot of other stuff and didn't got the out of memory error. I bought this LG thinking that it's a new model so it will not have problems, if i can watch in the old TV, why not in the new TV. Please help me, i am very worried because i will have to change the TV because of the same error that i got in my Sony Smart TV that i returned to the store. HEEEEELP Please. :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(  :(

I have the same challenge.  It's directly related to Simplink being on.  I also have a Pioneer receiver.  LG's updates across the board are horrendous.  But let's be honest here guys, they are not an American company.  They don't have American support or values, customer service wise.  I do like their products but have come to accept the fact that their support is godawful.  Apple would never allow this to happen.

My amp is Pioneer as well, is that the problem?

There are two types of customers when it comes to this issue. Customers who are willing to accept this issue and therefore keep their devices and those who really find this issue very frustrating and therefore returns their device.

This issue has existed for minimum 2 years now. And there hasn't been an official fix from LG. It is obvious this can't/won't be fixed. It even existed in their older OS.

I can only speak for myself though. I did not wait for my warranty to end. I returned the TV after two tries from lg to fix it without any success. LG went even as far as changing the motherboard.

I can proudly say I'm now a happy Samsung customer(H6640SL) for 8 months now. Samsung's magic remote works even far better than LG's. And that was one of the reasons I went for webos in the first place. Yeah Samsung copied LG but they did it better and it works.

Don't get me wrong, I loved LG's webos concept. And I was really excited, until I met this issue.

Haven't really heard any news about webos V2 these days, but I hope it doesn't have the same issue.

He is correct, this issue has been around for quite some time now.  They have no clue or if they do, they just dont have the resources to resolve it.  I kept mine due to LG's 3D technology, passive vs active.  LG uses passive 3D where you can use the glasses that dont require batteries.

What doesn't make sense is that my TV worked until last month, so why do they bother updating the TV? They would have fixed the problem if they never updated any of their TV's. I don't like the options on the right anyway, I preferred them on the left.

Hi all,

I have the same issue. When I turn on the simplink then I start getting the memory out message and apps restarting all the time. I have connected a raspberry pi to TV ( No Pioneer receiver).

It was working before the upgrade fine, so it can be fixed I guess. Except this issue I like the last firmware.

I had this problem in April this year on a previous model which thankfully broke and was replaced with a newer model, the LG 42LB650V-ZN

This worked fine until about 2 weeks ago - and now any app fails; Netflix, BBC iPlayer, NOW TV, etc -  'Out of memory issue'

LG advised solution is to download latest software (version: 04.45.25) and to load that after a factory reset.

This is the software already installed, so I haven't tried their 'solution' yet.

There are a lot of theories on the cause -but the long and short is that a new software update or patch is required

.

Come on LG - we've been here before - and your customers have been more than patient

Mine actually worked fine until software version 5 came out.  No I can watch about 1 episode on Netflix before the app crashes and tells me its out of memory.  I then have to turn the TV off and restart the app i was using.  I called support and they verified its a problem and told me an engineer would call me back today.  I had to reboot my TV 6 times this past Saturday.  I started binge watching the Blacklist on Netflix.  This is a pathetic issue that LG is not patching considering its been around for a few years now.

No update here in the USA either.  I called LG tech support last week about this issue.  The rep told me they would discuss this with the engineering team and they would call me back the next day..  I really just laughed at her knowing that was never going to happen.  Guess what, I was right, still waiting for the call.

I've updated my 55LB730V to 05.00.15 in Denmark 2 days ago, and it seems to work, I've have not seen the "out of memory" error since.

I use Simplink for controlling a Raspery Pi and PS4.

And what about web browser - also you have not seen out of memory error? Sorry, I was checking it so many times that I prefer to ask before upset again, trying to take advantage of the browser.

I've tried it yesterday, with a news site, it is extremely slow, and when I left the application to watch TV, it gave the well known App is out of memory error, and went to the TV-app, which worked without any problems or disruptions...

The internet browser on the Playstation 3 is far better! The Playstation 4 is very like the PS3, and even the little slow Nintendo Wii does a far better internet (but only in SD resolution).

As you can see Tommy, this browser is forgotten, failed joke. Other, more demanding applications work better than this shit. They just work.

In answer to my earlier question - out of memory error during a brief visit to pinterest.

Well LG, maybe you should produce only the washing machines. It's easier to write firmware for them.

The sad thing is that review never goes this deep, and people are enthusiastic about OLED, 4K (just as I was). And then after buying the TV, discover this low-level problems no-one would ever expect in 2015.

But apart from that, the TV works all right for my usage now, but it took my one year to learn to disable simplink, and then one month for this fix...

5.00.15 available (Croatia, 42LB650V), I like the new UI but browser 'Out of memory' error remained :-(

'Swap instead of Move in Antenna mode' bug remained:

BTW, although my download speed measured via PC is 8.8 Mb/s, the speed measured via LB650V is only slightly above 1.0 Mb/s. Can anybody confirm this as 'normal'?

I measured the speed here:

(Manual Test Size --> 50 MB, took about 360 s)

5.00.20 came out in the USA yesterday.  I downloaded and installed but have not confirmed it fixes the out of memory error.  I will do so later today.

If it fixes it, I am never updating my TV again.  LG has god awful support and just overall horrible Q&A when it comes to updates for any of their products.  I can't wait until Apple makes a solid TV so I can be done with the subpar support from these foreign companies.

Can you, please, check if there is Total Power On Time entry in the About menu of 5.00.20? After installing 5.00.15 the Total Power On Time info is not there any more.

I have 5.00.15 and it's Ok, but I have turned updates off. If 5.00.20 is better I might risk updating. For a start I would prefer my options back on the left of the TV, I don't like them on the right. Secondly, some people say that the browser runs out of memory, I haven't used the browser much, I just watched a cat video, and didn't run out of memory. If anything is better about 5.00.20 please let me know.

I don't think .15 was ever released in the USA.  I updated to .20 and I checked for the .15 update every day.

The options are still accessible on the left hand side, you just click the advanced options on the right side.  The options will then appear on the left.

That's an extra click, it's annoying.

On our LG G1 OLED, when watching a program on Binge, the Binge app restarts itself every 20 minutes or so with a message about needing to restart to free up memory. Power-cycling the TV doesn't fix the problem, nor does running the "Memory Optimiser" function from system settings. None of the other streaming service apps we have on the TV have this problem - Prime Video, Stan, Netflix, Disney+, Britbox, ABC iView, SBS On Demand, Youtube. Those are the only other apps installed on the TV. I've checked the LG WebOS version and checked for app updates, and everything is latest version.
If I run the Binge Android app on my Chromecast with Google TV, it works without any problems when streaming the same programs.

In fact, Spotify doesn't offer its service to LG webOS Smartwatch now. If you want to listen to Spotify songs on LG webOS Smartwatch, you'd need a

Samsung has made fridges with touchscreens before. LG has made fridges with doors that turn transparent to show you the inside. This year at CES 2018, those two ideas are finally merging into one with LG’s new InstaView ThinQ smart refrigerator, which features a 29-inch touchscreen that becomes transparent if users knock on it twice.
LG actually tried this two years ago, with a version called the Smart InstaView Door-in-Door that ran a full version of Windows 10, but it’s not clear that the company ever shipped the Windows version.
This version uses the touchscreen to manage your food using LG’s webOS software and Amazon’s Alexa, which will let you tag food with virtual stickers and expiration dates and get automatic reminders when things are running low or about to go bad. There’s also a wide-angle panoramic camera on the inside of the fridge that will let you remotely view your fridge while you’re out and about to check and see if you’re actually out of milk or not.

Unfortunately, the only image that LG has shared showing the fridge is a low-resolution shot on its YouTube page banner, but it seems that you’ll be able to still use the screen while it’s translucent, allowing you to tag food directly in a vaguely augmented reality-esque move.
LG is also touting how all of its ThinQ kitchen gadgets can talk to each other to make kitchen tasks easier. So your ThinQ fridge can talk to your EasyClean oven, which will help you cook food through step-by-step instructions from the recipe app from your fridge. Then, your EasyClean oven can notify your QuadWash dishwasher about the kind of meal you cooked, so it can more efficiently select a wash cycle for that dish. Of course, all this requires spending thousands of dollars replacing every appliance in your kitchen (and if this all works as well as LG claims it does), but it’s still an intriguing vision of a Jetsons-like future utopia.
No price or release date for the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator or any of LG’s other new appliances have yet been announced.
