Question

Posted

I recently bought an 50LB650V-ZN and as they have been out for a while i assumed it woukd need updating straight away.

ive connected it to the internet and when i click check for update i get the message 'Unable to check for updates'

i also bought a magic remote and after about 5 minutes of using it a pop up will appear saying 'failed to update magic remote' then the magic remote will turn off and stop working until i remove the batteries and put them back in again.

ive asked at the shop where i bought it and they say the TV should need updating straight away as its been available for about 8 months and that the magic remote doesnt actually update, only the software on the tv will update to support the magic remote.

ive tried to download the software update from the lg website but cant get the files to unzip so my tv doesnt recognise the files.

anyone come accross this problem before or know how to fix it? any help would be appreciated

thanks

Hi

I have the same problem with a 55UB950.

That is, message "failed to update magic remote..."

After this message the magic remote button's stop working until I restart the TV or pull out the batteries from the magic remote.

I have tried to re-register the magic remote but the problem persists.

Any solution?

I purchased 55LB7200 thru amazon.com. Since I updated WebOS, it keeps saying "Failed to update your magic remote..".

It is very annoying because it happens every single hour.

I might return this freaking TV. This sucks!

ive just noticed on mine that the software version on my tv is 04.33.22 and the latest software on the LG website is 04.32.20 but the TV has not been updated from when i got it out of the box.

i dont understand how my brand nw tv straight out of the box has a higher software version than the latest software update on the website. Surely a brand new TV would need updating when i first get it out of the box.

anyone know what software version my TV should be on when i get it out of the box and what the latest software version is?

New to this forum but i have been having the same issues since i got my 65UB950V

I started having the Magic remote upgrade issues after the TV upgraded to 04.40.34 firmware that was automatically downloaded from LG servers this version was never available on the web site only 04.30.18

I have just downgraded the firmware to 04.30.18 and it fixed the issue the upgrading magic remote, it popped up for 3 seconds and i have not seen it again.

I have noticed a new version 04.36.32 on LG website published on the 31/12/14 just installed this version and everything seems ok still

Just going to try 04.40.34 again to see what happens

Hi I have just recently bought a LG 42LB 630V and with this I bought the Magic Remote as part of the deal from my retailer so after setting up within 5mins I get a pop up stating failed to update magic remote do you wish to continue yes or no then my remote won't function until I remove the battery's . I have been in contact with LG about this first they said unpair the remote and pair again so I did this and still same problem so I emailed LG again and the replie I got was to send my Remote back for Testing or exchange it with your retailer. So iv exchanged it for another but still same problem . I did have a second email from LG saying I need to buy there wifi/Bluetooth dongle for this remote to work correctly then I think why well the tv has built in wifi so why do I want a additional wifi dongle ? The current software I'm running is 04.33.22 can anyone help or has any ideas please . Thanks

Change you TV region to DE Germany and check for updates should give you a new build that might help once upgraded change back BTW its a software bug on the TV that lg Tech's in the uk at least don't seem to know about

I can confirm it worked.

Changed to Germany.  Updated rebooted. Updated to UK (TV Rebooted its self this time)  waiting for the magic remote to time out and then next time I used it the message said in the corner updating magic remote software...... about 10 secs later said it was successful :D

No more problems :D

Like Brian, I have just carried out the procedure on a 49JL9000 TV purchased from John Lewis last week. Now works correctly, so I will let both JL and LG Customer Services know!

Edited: P.S. Although the magic remote now seems to operate correctly, having updated its (the TV's) software successfully, clicking on 'Check For Updates' in Settings still results in 'Unable to check for updates', which indicates that the updated software/firmware hasn't improved everything!

I've got the same problem on the John Lewis TV, but the German work around doesn't seem to be working for me. Can you tell me what version you updated to, mine is running 04.40.28 out of the box but I'm getting fed up with the magic remote failing to update. Even thinking about returning the set!

My TV updated itself to 4.41.32 some time ago and we have had no problems with the magic remote since then. Force an update and things should then work.

How do a force an update?? Tried loading the file on to a USB stick, but it didn't autorun. I have a old LG TV in my bed and managed to do that using the expert mode, but not too sure if this works on the new smart TVs..

Also, don't really know the right LG model for the John Lewis set, if anyone can help on that front.

Sorted it now, apparently the John Lewis 49JL9000 is the equivalent to the LG 42LB650V, which gives a firmware version of 04.45.04

Updated by USB and all seems well... So far

Just got a new 55in C4 and a Denon DHT-S316 Soundbar. With my very old LG I like to have the TV connected to the speakers during the day and in the evenings I would switch to bluetooth headphones. I could easily turn off my headphones and switch back to the optical sound output with no issues.
However I tried this and while I connected my headphones with no issues, once I disconnected I couldn't get the sound to come back through the sound bar without having to with the TV and sound bar off which feels crazy at this point in time and the cost of the TV when my very old LG did this with now issues.

      Any suggestions much welcomed.

Since the last webos update to 3.40.87, I find I have to completely power cycle the TV (a G1 65" OLED) every week or so to get the DLNA client back to functioning properly. I have a media server running Serviio on a Raspberry Pi, and I periodically get one of the following two problems, both of which are fixed by completely power-cycling the TV.
When I'm using the DLNA client to select videos from the server, I get no response from trying to select a video or series using the remote. The remote continues to work fine when used with other apps (eg Netflix, Stan etc) on the TV. When the DLNA client is playing a video from the server, the audio is delayed by a couple of seconds from the video. At the time that the TV is showing either of these problems, I can access the media server using either BubbleUPnP on my phone or VLC on my PC, and neither of them have any problem either selecting videos or playing them back with the audio synced with the video, so the problem is clearly with the TV, and power-cycling the TV gets rid of whichever problem is manifesting itself.

Recently live channels stopped working with an error every 2-3 seconds.
      Older media is still playing.
Now I noticed that new media like today's news aren't playing either. Same error.
News from Friday 3rd may still work.
Have tried on 2 LG tvs.. Oled from 2018 and LCD from 2020

      Hello.
I have an issue with my tv losing connection.
It seems like it's not uncommon for it to happen from time to time. but is has gotten worse the past couple of months. It can happen several times per day. usually when using netflix, but it can happen whenever.
i regularly lose the bluetooth connection to my magic remote, and a lot of the times when this happens i also lose connection with the wifi, The remote is still usable, in a somewhat limited capacity(no pointer, and need to have a more clear line of sight to the tv)
when the wifi disconnects it sometimes connects automatically, sometimes i have to manually connect it again, and sometimes the wifi function gets turned off, and can't be turned on again. usually this solves itself by putting the tv on standby and starting it again. using cable instead of wifi is not possible for the moment.
the remote. what usually works is pulling the plug on the tv for a while, and then it functions again. sometimes it's enough just putting it in standby mode for a minute or 2. sometimes i have to unregister and re-register the remote. THere's not one thing that works all of the time, so i have to try several things, but i've found that pulling the plug usually works best.
it's rarely enough to un-register and re-register the remote, i usually have to either put the tv in standby for a couple of minutes, or pull the plug
it's getting very frustrating dealing with this, so i'm asking to see if anyone knows what to do as a more permanent solution. i have no issue with doing factory resets or anything like that.

      Thanks
      Regards
      Stoffe

Watching anything on the FilmRise app, shows a “lost network connect, reconning error.  The issue is that the video is running fine behind the error, you just can’t see the top part of the screen because of it.  The answer to an earlier post was it works fine on Roku, but I don’t have that.
