I'm sure there is a good reason that HBOGO and Showtime Anytime are not available as premium apps on the new OLED 2016 models but seriously, but it's so disappointing. I have a cablebox and I'm looking to simple my life through smart tv and would prefer if I could just cancel my HBO on demand subscription and showtime subscription through cable and pay for the Apps because I never watch live tv. I also don't want to have purchase a Roku or Amazon stick. I mean maybe I should Roku remotes could control my tv?

Anyway here is one request - please add HBOGO and Showtime anytime to the LG smartv webos3.

This is ridiculous a brand like LG doesn't have one of the most popular apps available.  The reason I was searching for an answer was I am in the hunt for a 2nd smart TV for my basement, no way will I be getting another LG.

Hi guys,

I was looking at a 55UH850V, but need HBO Now installed in the OS. I'm assuming, since HBO Go is missing, that HBO Now is MIA too? This would be a deal breaker for me if other brands feature it in their OS.

Thanks!

Maybe if they get enough requests....

I also did submit a request and got a generic answer asking me to subscribe for updates as to which devices were supported or not.

Hard to say if this is HBO's fault or LG's. I'm leaning heavily towards HBO.

disappointed that it is 2016 and we don't have HBO Go on the WebOS.  Samsung's OS has it on my 2014 smart tv.  my consoles has it, it is just disappointing.  I hope they'll add it soon.  I only need it to view it directly and not opening up the console (installing the app).

I shopped all around for TVs and purchased LG because I respected the brand. Not anymore. This is pretty piss poor on LG's part, in my opinion. I see the release in December of 2014 that says it is added to their WebOS. . .

"The HBO Go comes standard on the Premium Content menu, which is part of the WebOS interface used on the most recent LG TVs" --  However this is not the case.

Hey LG -- When are you going to fix this? All of your customers are here waiting on your response to this topic.

Thank you.

The official position from LG support  is that this is controlled by the app developer and they would have to build the app and submit for webOS.  The request would need to be directed at the developer of the app, similar to how app developers submit their apps to iOS and Android. Contacting HBO support and they push back towards LG as having to build the app which is not usually how it goes. The app developer would download the OS SDK and build their app. If LG doesn't pre-install the  app, it needs to be submitted to the app store.

So in a nutshell, if you want an app, contact the app developer/company to build it.  However, I'm sure there are many others who are asking for this and it wouldn't hurt to contact HBO

That's true, however, LG could vastly speed things up by officially contacting HBO and ask them to work on their WebOS app.

I have already contacted HBO and it wouldn't hurt if you at LG can do the same as well... thanks.

You do understand that we are not LG and this website is only a user to user support forum for lg webos and legacy webos products? I do agree that LG should contact HBO.

Dang. LG recieves more misplaced blame and gets less respect than any other tv company I've seen. I keep looking for a scandal or controversy in their past....a defining moment when they lost peoples confidence that would explain why they get near universal disdain from consumers. Its ridiculous to demand that a smart device mfr X add app support "from" content provider Y- "lets petition LG to develop an app that can use HBO subscriber database and account authentication to give consumers access to HBO content and distribute it on the tvs app store for them in HBO's name. HBO dont have any say because its LG responsibility..."- yet that seems to be the reaction from the majority of consumers when it involves LG. Also the purpose of smart tv's was always defeated as they have never matched the performance, responsiveness, or app and sw support of a smart 'box'. Smart box > smart player > smart tv

Just like on  iOS and Android it's not Apple and Google that make their HBO apps, its HBO that makes it and submits their app to the operating system's app catalog. LG webOS and other TV platforms shouldn't be expected to build an app for a network and their content, you don't expect Apple to build every app in their catalog...it's usually up to each individual developer to provide their app.

While I agree with the sentiment that TV manufacturers should not be expected to produce the apps for content providers, may be they should.  In particular circumstances.

One such circumstance?  If it is a paid for view service.

"Hi Mr Content provider LG here.  We will produce your app for you, keep it up to date, liaise with you regularly and take all the hassle away from you.  What do we want in return?  Well a small percentage of the taking of course."

Another circumstance?  If it is going to drive people to purchase their product because it provides something no other TV platform has.  I cannot think of an example off the top of my head but I am sure someone with chime in (no no no no no no no no, not Flash support in the browser).

Amongst the many many reasons webOS failed at Palm/HP was the fact that third parties were not producing enough apps to make the platform attractive enough.  I sit here sadly looking at my HP Pre 3, while luckily my TouchPad has Android 7 running on it.

In this installment of On the Job, we go inside LG Home Entertainment Company’s Total Experience Development Department, Product Planning Team and Design Lab.
Have you ever missed your TV when traveling or on a camping trip? With LG StanbyME Go, users no longer need to be without their TVs as they can now watch their favorite shows anyplace, anytime with minimal effort.
Let’s get a behind-the-scenes account of how LG StanbyME Go came to be.

(From left to right) Park Ji-won, senior manager of the HE Product Planning Team, Kim Yong-seok, senior manager of the HE Design Lab, and Park Ho-sung, leader of the Total Experience Development Department
“Our journey began with the pledge to create something entirely new, driven by bold ideas,” said Park Ji-won, senior manager of the Home Entertainment (HE) Product Planning Team, who also commented on the exceptional teamwork of LG’s engineers, product planners and designers who contributed to crafting a truly unique TV that had never been seen before.
With the successful launch of the LG StanbyME, developing a new product with fresh ideas was no easy task. LG began by observing how users interact with the StanbyME and noticed many users bringing this product outdoors to consume content while enjoying outdoor activities. “Seeing customers taking StanbyME outdoors was beyond our expectations and this inspired ideas for covers and bags to protect the screen, but we ultimately decided to focus on improving the product itself,” said Park Ji-won.

Park Ji-won, senior manager of the HE Product Planning Team
“In regard to materials, we considered durability and chemical reactions which was like solving a 1000-piece puzzle. There is no standard or reference for developing and designing such products because this is a totally new product that’s never been seen before,” said Kim Yong-seok, senior manager of the HE Design Lab. “The journey has been far from easy, as we had to conduct countless durability tests, including dropping the case from specific heights and having six people stand on it to ensure its viability.” According to Kim, they selected plastic as the primary material for its exceptional chemical stability, confirmed through tests with various sunscreens commonly used during outdoor activities.

Kim Yong-seok, senior manager of the HE Design Lab
At first, camping wasn’t the main concept of LG StanbyME Go. As LG explored creative ideas to enhance usability and portability, they listened to valuable feedback from consumers who requested bags provided as branded goods. After months of consideration, LG’s designers and engineers struck upon the concept of ‘a bag.’ “Given my decade-long experience with camping, I realized it could be adapted for outdoor camping use,” said Kim. “At this point, confidence in the product started to grow.”
The teams of designers and engineers considered ideas like adding wheels and a dedicated stand to enhance versatility and convenience, allowing users to enjoy entertainment experiences free from space limitations. After analyzing the feedback from over 400 customers around the world, the team realized that people preferred a TV they can watch both indoors and outdoors without restrictions. “People who go camping frequently want a product they can use at a campsite as well as in their living room,” said Park Ho-sung, leader of Total Experience Development Department. Based on this feedback, the developers considered the content and features that everyone can enjoy, which led them to the digital fireplace.

Park Ho-sung, leader of the Total Experience Development Department
But they didn’t stop there and focused on how to deliver more intriguing features which led to the invention of front-firing speakers and a suitcase cover that was not featured in the earlier model. “The turntable concept was our eureka moment, and we’re delighted by the positive reception from consumers for the turntable music skins,” said Park Ho-sung.

LG StanbyME Go also provides users with high convenience as it automatically turns its screen on when the case is opened. Even when turned off, the screen proves useful as it can be set to display images that help users relax or heighten the atmosphere.
Furthermore, the stunning details and colors provided by Dolby Vision elevate visual content, while Dolby Atmos supports an immersive, three-dimensional audio experience that brings content to life. With the holiday season fast approaching, LG StanbyME Go even comes with games that can keep the whole family entertained and make it easy to create memories that last a lifetime.
In addition to unmatched functionality, the LG StanbyMe Go case features compartments for storing remote controls and the power cable for convenience. Thanks to the corrosion resistance and premium materials, it is a durable case that reduces the risk of damage and scratches when taken outdoors.

LG StanbyME Go is aligned with customer trends by providing an elevated viewing experience on the go. LG is thrilled at the prospect of enriching people’s lives and everyday experiences in new, unexpected ways. The company will continue to think from the customer’s perspective, striving to offer the features and content they seek while enabling lifestyles that resonate with them completely.
At IFA 2023, LG StanbyME Go garnered prestigious recognition from numerous media, including ‘Best of IFA Awards.’ Notably, popular tech media outlets commended LG StanbyME Go as the standout product of IFA 2023, introducing it as an exciting piece of camping and travel gear.

Does anybody know why my LG C9 OLED is not showing Showtime Anytime programming in 4K/UHD but other LG models running the same version of the application have 4K/UHD available (including non OLEDs)?

Sometimes the Showtime and the Starz apps. will not play videos. The little loading icon just twirls. A couple days later they might work fine.  I have tried signing out, deleting the app, reloading it from the LG Store, then signing back in, but it doesn’t solve the problem. Broadband speed tests are above 110 MB.
Because it happens with both apps, it seems it could be some sort of an LG handshake or verification problem.
Casting Showtime and Starz movies to my LG 43UM6910PUA 4K UHD TV from the corresponding app on my iPhone works fine  but it ties up the phone.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
