Question

I have a LG 55UH615T SmartTV.

1. I setup a few scheduled recordings from the digital TV (via Guide),

2. I have connected a USB HDD to the TV and

3. I then set the TV to standby (i.e. I switch off the TV but the power to the TV is still on).

4. Also, I disabled the HDD Eco mode to ensure the HDD don't go to sleep.

However, the TV doesn't record when the TV is on standby mode. Can anybody tell me how I can record when the TV is on standby mode? Can anybody tell me how I can record when the TV is on standby mode?

I have found a workaround to my problem.

I discovered that when you switch on the main power supply of the TV to standby mode, the scheduled recording don't work.

However, if you switch on the TV for a minute and then switch it off to standby mode, the scheduled recording works!

It seems when you power on the TV to standby mode, it doesn't supply power to the attached USB HDD or the TV don't know there is a USB HDD drive attached. But if you switch on the TV, it starts to supply power to the USB HDD or it recognises that USB HDD is attached. So, even when you switch off the TV to standby mode, the USB HDD is still supplied with power or recognised by the TV. As such, the scheduled recording works.

This is a bug of the webOS I think. Hopefully, LG fix it soon!

This is a very serious issue and I expect LG to come up with a solution soon.

Is there any difference, whether the USB port in use is 2.0, or else 3.0 ? I am using a 2.0 USB port, and having this same problem.

As for the workaround, it is not working for me.

Thanks & Cheers

I have a 49UH651 with webos 3.0

I thought that recording from the schedule was not working when it actually was!

The problem was that when I switched on the tv and went to webos/recordings I saw a screen that said that there were none!

What is happening is that the tv takes a long time to acknowledge the disks existence. More than a minute.

You can see this when you look at the connections list. The disk is missing.

However when you go straight to webos/recordings it does not mention that it is still waiting for the disk, so you assume that the recording has not been made!

I wonder how many support calls this simple user interface oversight has caused!

I'm having this issue too, but it's definitely not that the hard drive has not been found as it appears in the list of devices. The most annoying thing is that it seems to be intermittent, sometimes it works, more often it doesn't. Sometimes when it doesn't work, it 'forgets' the whole series, other times it is still there showing I have selected it to record, it just doesn't.

I do feel it's a power management issue, but really annoying that you basically have to be at home to make sure it's awake and recording! Defeats the object.  I haven't yet tried a new hard drive, but I'm reluctant to as it seems others are having the same issue. This was one of the main reasons I bought a smart TV so I'm very frustrated.

I have exactly the same issue with my LG 43UJ630V purchased in August this year.  Firstly very disappointed with the WebOS, lack of sufficient internal memory to run the 'apps' properly without constant restarts to 'free up memory' - no excuse for this really given memory is so cheap now. Anyway another major disappointment is the total inability of these sets to use USB Flash drives - LG claim this is due to the read/write limitation of said devices which is quickly exhausted by recording in HD/ 4k. Well all I can say is my six years old Toshibal  could manage this faultlessly . The LG however sometimes records OK then other times the recording simply stops after a few seconds.  Don't know if this is a 'power' issue or the almost new flash drive is now 'worn out' but whatever LG should either insure their products do what the advertising says or fix the problem. Concerning the 'restarting to free memory error' I did manage to get a call eventually from LG support tech who just stated these TV's are not like computers and cannot be expected to run their Smart TV Apps! Er, excuse me this was promised and is why I purchased the damn thing.
