4.0 update for 2016-17 Smart TV

Question

Posted

When will the 4.0 update be available for my 2016-17 LG Smart TV?  I just got Alexa and can't use it for the TV unless it has the 4.0 version.  Model #70UH6350-UB.

I recently asked LG support to look into this for me, and though I don't have my hopes up for full 4.x on the 2016 and 2017 sets (be it a matter of performance, developer time, or lack of customer complaints), it would *really* be nice to at least get a teaser or two (like Assistant and Alexa support) backported to 3.3 and 3.5.

LG could certainly earn some valuable loyalty points by falling in with the cool kids- the ones who roll out major system updates for years ;)

I can’t believe there aren’t more people requesting an update to fix this integration issue with Alexa devices.

Ya don't hold your breath. There will be no updates and very few good apps from WebOS. Never has been. Get a tv that has Android or get an android box and forget about WebOS. That is just for running your LG tv. Kind of like trying to install a Google app on an IPad.

Good point- app developers don't like to waste their time on disposable platforms.

Still waiting on the follow-up I was promised by LG customer support... 🙄

yeah it sucks  and my tv released   on november 2nd 2017 ...  and    they rereleased the same model    one month later in the 2018 series with  bluetooth  magic remote  smart thinq and google assistant   build in  the exact same model   one month apart i got so pissed  and basicaly  i had bought an android tv by sony  but best buy coudnt find it  to deliver so they sent me a lg instead  .... and  i didn y had a choice    as it was holiday  time  and didnt want to spend another month witjout tv  but that said  it is so stupid that tv has miracast  which  i can cast from youtube   on my phone    but i cannot cast my screen     as we need to use  lg stupid app that only let you cast  songs photos and videos  not    your screen .... and   even i can cast to youtube i cannot do it trought the assistant    that aint supported .... wrost than that the tv has the smartthinq app  installed to control any smartthinq devices  but we cannot control   the tv    with smartthinq  on other devices   and seriously ....  i dont care not having the assistant built in since i already have alexa and google homes in every rooms   so it woudnt be hard to add  google home.and alexa smart speakers to control the tv ....  it is supposed to be smart after all    and has miracast, wifi , dlna and can connect to any  network attached storage wirelessly  so  technically   i would be able  to use a google home on it   i can even  control a old roku 1  with the google home for god sake and i was able to    turn on  my old 2012 sony     which was  kinda the first smart tvs having a web browser netflix youtube and maybe 5 other useless apps   but no appstore  but stil i could power on   with google assistant  or alexa i dont remember which the as the tv died last  fall so in my opiniom they just dont care to support anything not from this year  which is bad business   and when they announced webos 4  they said their current tvs  with web3.5 and up  would get webos 4 but  that was not the case at the end    and aside from spotify , newsy, youtube  prime and netflix  the apps  are useless in  america  they cannot even put apps for stuff we have here     and i ll never buy  again  and my tv was praised by gamers so   they probably  been asked many times  and thry say they release updates and features   going on  what people ask ... that tv got one systeme update    in  1 year and it was this fall  supposed to correct internet that keep disconnecting or not beinf able   connenct to servers to accept being bombarded with target ads   ...   ... and seriously theit update made the tv way slower and  the internet keep disconnecting non stop    by ethernet as welll as wifi   they said i needed a 15 megabit connection to stream  ....  and i have a 200 megabit.connection here ...   if only we could hack em and install custom. firmwares    but nop we cant

My LG OLED 65 TV was updated this am to version 05.80.15 and seems to be working OK.  Anyone having problems with this version?  I have Google Home and if I ask Google to play Youtube on TV it works.  I thought that folks were having some problems with this but maybe not.  FWIW

thats because youtube is a google app and you must register your tv with it in your account  but try doing other things   with the google assistant it wont work now as for the update 05.80.15 is to solve an audio issue on  oled   tvs

I wish I can upgrade my 49UH850 to webos 4+, but all hopes seemed lost since LG is not answering question on how to upgrade older models to newer webos OS

It is really a pain. Always hanging up on while playing youtube videos and the only way to reset memory usage is to turn of and on the TV. Disney app is not available too. Even casting is not supported.

Would be nice to be able to get HBO MAX or at least cast from my phone to my 2017 UJ series. I bought a new 65” model that has everything and put my old 49er in my room. I don’t know how long the expected lifespan of each model is but LG should continue supporting models for longer than two-three years it seems.

Lg annonced it. Long ago but it never came as always they dont do such major  os  update.  So tv. On  lg tvos 3.0   wont reach 4.0. .. 4 eont reach 5. Etc

Now there wre  ta couple options available not all of em are good thought

First  option which is probably the best solution and the one i personally use is to. Connect hdmi media streaming  device but. Here the are.    From best to worst   well i mean   based on my own opinion lol

Google tv with Chromecast  bringing android tv os  with all  the google apps. Appstore  even the. Beta versions of unreleased android version are available on thoses so they ll last for a while  before .they change it  also bring the google assistant to the tv.  And   they are if i m right arounf 30 or 35  for the full hd 1080p  hdmi dongle   amd 45 $ the. 4k version  and support. Airplay and chromecasting. .

fire tv cube which have every app i could need. Air play chromecasy miracast etc which cost about 50$

The fire stick is ok but dont take a lot  to cradh as it s underpowred  around 20$

I personally wss using fire  tv cube and the google tv with chromecast that came later i love both buy all my stuff in here is google so ...

SECOND OPTION

Lg TV have miracast which is pc windows os  version of chromecast software .. roku can  use it any windowss devices can strem direct too .. it s not chromecast but works the same way

For this option you need a app made by LG but removed from the app store this spring but still works .. and  it is still avilable it you had the hap before ..you can download it on app store it. Is called alava "LG TV PLUS" uou can case your phone. Or filed  or websites

You can easy find tve apk on  android alternatives places to download apk file  i persony use  pure apk and bever had an issue but pick the apk. Store you feel safe using

You might be able to use airplay  on apple devices to stream  trought the apple tv  on app store but  not all tv work with airplay

THIRD OPTION

If you have amazon prime tv membership paramount+ is part of   paid subscription of  amazon  prime

FOURTH OPTION   (not recommanded unless you know what you do and risky to brick) webos. 3.5 to 3.9 can. Be   jailbreaking   because  a vulnerablity   found allow installing jailbreak  with home brew and another app store but made by lg but i dont recommand for security reason.and the  way.  To get.it

BONUS

LAST RESORT OPTION

Change the tv. ..lol not the best. Option as it aint cheapest and   not environment friendliest

P.s. you can cast to  xbox systems or playstation systems too

Hope it help

Matt

Google tv with chromecast. Hdmi dongle is 35  for the full hd or 45$. The 4k  both on the latest android tv os software. All apps works .. made by google  and brings   the google assistant.   And solve all issue

Greetings, friends! I have a LG smart TV 32LF632V, model from 2016, which when updating the software stays on Webos 2 version. I need Webos 3 version to be able to install one domestic application. Now I can download the installation to the USB, put it in the TV and install it that way (there are instructions on the internet), but I'm afraid that I will create a problem (that I won't be able to install or restore it afterwards) because this version of the TV is not intended for more advanced users versions since Webos 2.

Has anyone tried something similar or knows if it is possible or not?

THANK YOU!

Up until a few days ago my TV and AVR have been working perfectly since I bought it.
Zero hassles with HDMI and connectivity.
Then I was prompted to update to the latest software version which I did and now often when I switch HDMI (running on 1) it picks up the device name, CEC works but I get “No Signal”… and then nothing.
Just stays on “No Signal”. It is almost as if some HDMI handshake breaks and now the driver is in a broken state.
I’ve found that if I hard power off and power on the device sometimes works but I don’t want to do that every time especially since it’s hard to get to the power.
This really strikes me as a software issue with the latest update as absolutely nothing else has changed in my setup.
      I’ve tried:
Different HDMI cables (high quality) Deep colour settings Reset the TV to factory default Different HDMI ports TV
      Model: OLED65G26LA / OLED65G26LA.HFBQLWK WebOS TV Version: 8.3.0.2301 Software Version: 13.30.56 AVR & Devices
Marantz SR5015 Nvidia Shield Pro PS5
The setup is the conventional AVR installation as shown in the attached file

      Has anyone else experienced this?
Is it possible to revert the software update?

webOS updated, I think to 2023, on my C2 a couple of days ago. Since then the News option on the Sky News app no longer works, instead timing out. The Weather and Climate options still work, though.
I have deleted and reloaded the Sky News app, but the problem remains.
Does anybody have any suggestions of what I might try to get this working again, or is this something for LG, or Sky, to fix?

Accessibility in technology transcends mere innovation; it is about making everyday life better for everyone. At CSUN AT 2025, LG participated as the first global home appliance company to showcase its universal approach to accessibility.

The “CSUN Assistive Technology Conference,” organized by the Center on Disabilities at California State University Northridge, is recognized as the world’s largest event focused on assistive technology. Major global tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft, participate annually to introduce their new accessibility technologies and gain valuable insights.

As the pioneering global home appliance company to exhibit at the CSUN conference, LG unveiled accessibility innovations designed to enable a “Better Life for All.” At the 40th annual CSUN conference in March, LG showcased smart home innovations, AI technologies and accessory devices aimed at helping consumers with disabilities and senior citizens use products more conveniently.

For the U.S. consumer market, LG demonstrated various solutions that enhance user experiences through attachable accessories and software updates for home appliances and consumer electronics.

The LG Comfort Kit, introduced in North America for the first time this year, was developed in response to user concerns. LG created several accessories to make appliances easier to operate, including easy handles for people with limited strength to open the laundry detergent drawer and washer and dryer doors, and an easy-to-use dial for washing machines. The company continues to expand the Comfort Kit lineup by listening to feedback from a variety of consumers, including those with mobility impairments, visual impairments, as well as children and seniors.

Another highlight of the exhibition was a newly-developed commercial kiosk featuring height- adjustable capabilities and tactile keypads. This kiosk allows wheelchair users to easily adjust the screen height to their eye level. A new tactile keypad accessory designed to enhance accessibility for visually impaired consumers also was introduced at the conference.

Complementing its technology demonstrations in the booth, LG hosted a half-day workshop addressing topics such as AI smart homes, universal design including comfort kits, and accessible kiosks. Discussions included new assistive technologies and ways to alleviate customer pain points to create more convenient environments. Workshop participants included accessibility stakeholders from the Shepherd Center, the University of Maryland, UC Berkeley, the American Council of the Blind and the National Center for Accessible Media, who all shared their expertise and insights on improving accessibility in products.

According to LG Electronics ESG Strategy Head Justin Hong, LG’s role at CSUN 2025 exemplifies the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility for home appliance users and to realize its Better Life for All ESG vision. “Accessibility is at the heart of our innovation, driving us to push boundaries and exceed expectations,” he says. “It is particularly meaningful to showcase various products launching in North America as we continue our efforts to contribute to a Better Life for All with some of the easiest-to-use and most convenient products on the planet.”

LG was excited to participate in CSUN AT for the first time and present its newest accessibility-focused solutions debuting in North America. The event was a great opportunity to highlight the company’s ongoing commitment to improving lives for everyone by offering products that enhance convenience and ease of use.

With its first appearance at CSUN AT 2025, LG reaffirmed its commitment to universal design and accessibility. By introducing thoughtfully designed solutions that enhance convenience for disabled and senior users, LG continues to push for a more inclusive future.
