Glitchy recordings from USB disk

Question

Posted

Hi,

I've recently purchased a LG 43UK6300PLB, which by and large has been excellent! But I'm having problems with recording to USB. So far I've tried a 500GB drive I had spare, but its probably 7-8 years old, and I've tried an SSD as well. Tried the 500GB in an older USB2 external caddy and in a more recent USB3, and the SSD in the USB3. Both were formatted to NTFS.

When I come to watch the recording, I get what looks like signal breakup where I might lose a second or so of the recording. Its not constant either, there might be a 10 second period where the quality is really bad and broken, and then maybe a minute of it being OK.

I've tried the USB3 caddy with external 5V power added in too, 2A supply.

Same problem happens if I pause live TV, and then unpause it a little later.

Normal TV picture quality is fine, I've got good signal here and never see this on normal viewing.

Wondered if anyone had suggestions? Is it worth trying a USB stick instead? Running out of ideas with this one.

Thanks

I get exactly the same issue on a 6470 normal viewing is fine and never breaks up. But recordings via USB (I have tried 3 different disks including a SSD) are always glitchy. I have recorded a live broadcast and watched it with no glitches and then played back the recording and it contains glitches. Happens on both Freesat and Freeview.

If anyone has an ideas please let me know.

I followed up with LG tech support a couple of times, they suggested it was because the signal strength (if I remember right) was too high - they wanted it to be something like 75% to 85%. So, I got this down to 80% but made no difference for me, but maybe worth checking.

It's strange as I guess it must work for most other people, but I tried a bunch of difference devices, and even benchmarked them on a PC, finding the IO performance to be way better than what HD recordings should need. Having said that, did seem worse for HD channels than SD, which made me wonder if was data rate.

      Hi everyone!!!
Lately I have a problem with my 40UH630V (OS Ver. 05.70.30). It takes too long for a hard drive or a USB stick to get it ready to play video files. That means that I have to plug in my hard drive or USB stick and wait for at least 4-5 minutes before I can play the video files, no matter what type/format they are. Sometimes I have to unplug and re-plug my drive so to read it.
Here I must point that both USB ports are clean with no dust or any corrosion, USB cables are new and fully functional and all hard drives and USB sticks are working perfectly on my 32LQ63806LC.
Also in some cases i get a message on TV for a format compatibility but I don't think this is the case, since if I wait 4-5 minutes (sometimes a bit more) then it reads them normally.
      Any ideas?

I am using an LM6300PLA, WebOS version 05.30.11
When I try to record a series from the Live TV - using input the satellite connection - the first episode records correctly, but subsequent episodes all stop after 3 minutes.
      What am I doing wrong?
Further annoyances are that I can't just set it to record all episodes of a particular show (the way my HUMAX Freesat does), but only 'repeat recording on specified days' with no end-date.
Does this mean that the recorder has no access to the Electronic Programme Guide, but just sets a time and duration? If the broadcaster reschedules the programme does the recorder just pick up the replacement?

I bought a new LG Smart TV Type: 43UQ75009LF.AEUD with webOS 22.
I previously had the type: 43UH620V with webOS 4
The problem is that I have a lot of recordings from the old LG TV on my hard drive, all from non-encrypted, open channels such as ARD and ZDF Germany, which I can no longer play on the new LG TV because the data is encrypted .
Is there a solution to make these files (STR), I copied the whole "LG Smart TV" folder including the "lg_dvr" subfolders and the "TN" folder to my iMac, to make it viewable again?
I know that the .STR files contain the video. Is there a solution under macOS or Windows10(11) to decrypt this data and make it viewable?
I couldn't find anything with a Google search.
      Thanks for tips on this.

Hi everyone. I had a WD My Passport Ultra (firmware v1.012), which previously connected as normal on my LG TV.
However, after I updated the firmware of both the external disk + TV and they did not recognize since then. Wonder if there is any resolution?

Hi I have a LG Smart TV (OLED55B16LA) and started using the recording feature.
I would like to replace the USB HDD with a bigger one, so I have copied all the files from the old one to the new one.
But when I put the new one in the TV it does not recognise it as a recording, it lets me browse the content. but of course being scrambled it is pointless.
Is it possible to move all the recordings to a different disk and use it in the same TV?
      Cheers
