Super slow internet (WiFi) when streaming

Question

Posted

Hi,

I recently bought an LG UK6500PLA TV (my first LG), but I have a difficult time streaming content (Wifi connected), e.g. Netflix series is streaming in low resolution.  The router is only 10 feet away from TV (but ethernet is not an option) and uses a 5GH frequency range.

I have tried making a speed test at fast.com, for both the TV (through the Webbrowser) and for my laptop and iPhone. The speed test for TV showed 2.5 Mbps and my laptop and iPhone showed 110 Mbps. Can there really be such a big difference? I am starting to wonder if this might be a warranty issue?

Do any of you guys have experience with bad Wifi reception on your LG TV or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Br,

Nick

I faced the same problem and after going through so many proposed solutions online, I found the answer to my problem. The Screen Share feature of the LG Smart TV is interfering with the wifi signal, causing it to go from 200Mbps to less than 2 Mbps. After turning it off, the problem has gone away.

@George Hofmeister Thank for your input. The 2.4GHz and 5GHz doesn’t share the same SSID, they differentiate with a “_5GHz” at the end of the SSID for the 5GHz.

And still, even for a 2.4GHz band 2.5 Mbps vs 110 Mbps seems ridiculous with a router less than 10 feet away.

UPDATE:

I just switched to my 2.4GHz SSID and speed test went from 2.5 Mbps (tops) on the 5GHz to 80 on the 2.4GHz! This makes no sense, as the 5GHz band frequence should be better, and is working uncomplainable on all other devices.

Still curious about why my LG won’t work properly with the 5GHz band frequency?

Br,

Nick

We both experiencing the same problem until now, if your WIFI is just 10 feet away from your TV?  What I did was I placed the router behind my TV and nothing happened. The only way to watch youtube is to unplug my TV cord from the sucket and plug it again  and turn back the TV on and choose LG content and then click youtube that the only to watch videos from youtube and some other apps.

Thank you so much for this fix! Did the trick for us - gone from 0.5 to 100Mbps after disabling Screen Share (press the sources button - took me a while to find this as it's not in the Settings) and restarting the TV. Never would have guessed!

Thank you so much! This fixed a long standing buffering issue I've had when streaming content from my locally hosted Plex server.

Program guide works OK until ca. 17.30-18.00 . Then the guide only shows current programs. Inspecting later times is not possible. Only thing that helps is to unplug the TV  and  plug it in again. But the next day the problem is there again around the same time. Is this a problem of the LG TV? Is there a solution for this?

It is unprofessional on part of LG TV that they do not resolve the basic issue of adding app gCmob in their app store.
My 50UT80506LA LG WebOs TV does not support my office security camera system via wifi to TV.  We need (gCmob app) in list of app.
I can't connect my office camera via Wi-Fi to LG-TV. No body in LG TV technical team is proactive in resolving the issue of customer. They are more happy to befool the customers, rather than looking for technical solution through wider thinking.
Please talk to you top management and make a visit to our office to understand the customers plight..
      Please respond to customers needs.
