Annoying pop-up messages on my lg 49sj800v smart tv

Question

Posted

I have owned this tv for a year and pleased with it ... until about a month ago. I now have constant repetitive messages in top right hand corner of screen saying 'Unknown device disconnected' or 'wired network is connected' or wired lan cable is connected' and it's driving me crazy. I have tried the lg live chat technical support and they were not aware of the issue but I've seen the same problem discussed on US forums and here too. Nobody seems to be able to have a solution. I have unplugged all external stuff - Virgin V6 box, Wii, wired internet, etc and it still happens. Help!!

For me so far so good. There is one person over on the lg support website that has Cher WiFi module twice, her motherboard and some other parts and still has problems. Now LG tells her it may be the screen. I can’t believe they just don’t let her get another tv. She said she would settle for store credit. Most of the problems happened after the updates. Hopefully the problem is over now.

@txydas My lg49sj800v 's trouble is like the ones commented here, i. e. 1. rare message saying unknown device disconnected (it is not annoying and repetitive), 2. wifi and screenshare usually are not working. my tv name is not  often appeared on mobile phone during screenshare, and wifi has the same fault. 3. occasionally, the broadcast dtv picture paused for 2-3 seconds and then resumed in fast motion mode. 4. during the faults, the the tv does not respond to magic remote controller.

Do you have the other trouble I wrote here? do you think my trouble would be removed by replacing the wifi module?

thanks in advance.

Hi, I believe, by replacing the wifi module, will solve most of the errors - as  i had the same problems-, if not all.  Do replace the wifi module and let us know.

Hi.  I posted this original question and with the advice given I have resolved the issue of pop up messages and magic remote not working. I haven't replaced the wifi module as I don't use it but I have disconnected it via the settings programme and all is well and has been for some time. That's the solution. Oh and don't buy lg again. Where were they in this their own forum!

This is a user-to-user forum, not a LG platform.

As for the WiFi card issue, well the possibility is a bad batch of a product probably not made by LG.  It would be good to know the details of the modules that people have had to replace so that we can get some idea of what is going on.

Please find attached the pictures of the faulty rf module. Since is a common fault on many tvs, please make arrangemnts for a replacement. I may send you my address if requested.

Thanks

I am not sure what you mean. My WiFi module worked fine and I never had a message on my tv screen about an unknown device until the latest software update.  I don’t take to blaming manufacturers lightly and never have done so before. I only came to this site about a month ago looking  guidance when I wasn’t finding  it on the lg support site.  The things that were suggested over there didn’t work and we were told they were working on a fix that didn’t come. Others with the problem tracked it to the WiFi module so I went there also. This is lg tv is a replacement for one that went bad while still under warranty.

@txydas Hi, thanks.

I tried to find the item on ebay. But I realized that here, in IRAN, sanctioned by Ultimate Satan Administration (USA), it is a tedious task or even impossible to buy such a thing through ebay or amazon or ... , because a TV WiFi RF module may be used in an imaginary nuclear warhead, according to them. LOL!

anyway, per the experiences reported in this forum, I tried to see what the module is. At the first glance, and more and more scope, no obvious fault was detected. everything seemed to be OK. So I just disassembled the module and the ribbon cable. I experienced that the TV had little or no sense to magic control. So, the module was not a thing that could be ignored. So I took some photos and reassembled them again after the only common remaining task, i.e. cleaning the module and connecting cable both at the module's and mainboard's header by a spray solvent.

And now, it is for 3 days that the TV has operated flawlessly. Everything is OK; Magic control, WiFi, Screenshare, No message, No pause or delay in the stream display ... I wonder what the bug was and wonder whether it would be coming back? Who knows? It was recommended to me to substitute the TV to another model or brand. It is not my decision for now.

So, It may be helpful if the users, who have replaced the module, say in please that if any similar tasks had been already done before replacing?

Some people mentioned that turning of Wi-Fi in the Settings menu helped them. I just wanted to say that, even though that makes sense, most LG TVs don't have a menu setting to do that, only a few do. So this is an option for only some people.

I didn't try removing the module; that may have worked for me since I wasn't using WiFi nor any magic control. I didn't try cleaning it up or anything either. I guess it could be an issue of a lose connection as well, but I can't really confirm that. I do know that is has been a week now with the new module and it is still working well, no issues in sight.

Here is a picture of my old module, in case it helps.

Hello all,

After lot of reading comments and googling, I had left all hopes and was looking for a new TV replacement. But I took a chance to open the back panel and searched for WiFi module which was right next to power button. Just unplugged and blown a bit to clear some dust and plugged back in. And my TV was like new again. All problems solved. I am using lg 49sj800v. Try this before you make some hard decisions.

same here.

My 49SJ800V has the LGSBWAC72 RF Module and after disassembly and blowing some cold air from my hair dryer on the connectors fixed my problems.

Now my magic remote stays connected and Netflix hasn't had a hiccup ever since.

Take note that I still get the "unknown device disconnected"/"unknown device reconnected" combo.

Same here, issue started with os update on my UK6090PUA. I contacted customer service who asked me to change the location of the TV from US to Canada and back, and if that does not work (it didn't), do a hard reset by unplugging and pressing the start button for one minute. That did not help either. These random notifications are very distracting, up to 10 per minute, then nothing for a while, and back again.

If your problem is the intermittency of the internet signal via cable / wired, and the reception via WIFI signal is "off", follow this saying and be happy:
https://www.theraffon.net/~spookcentral/scblog/tcp/2019/07/10/lg-smart-tv-unknown-device-is-disconnected-fix

Basically you will turn off the WIFI module of your TV - which is responsible for generating the problem on the Ethernet signal too.

I think Bluetooth is also disabled after disconecting the WiFi module.

Can you confirm?

Company Enhances Smart Home Connectivity With Open API

SEOUL, Dec. 17, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) has fully opened the Application Programming Interface (API) of its smart home platform, LG ThinQ, enabling developers to easily create smart spaces with LG appliances.
Recently, LG launched the LG Smart Solution API Developer website (
link hidden, please login to view) to officially open up the LG ThinQ API. An API acts as a digital connector that allows different software to exchange functions seamlessly. Developers can utilize the open API to integrate various features from LG AI appliances into their programs or systems, enhancing their services. The LG ThinQ API is divided into two categories: the ThinQ API for individual users and the ThinQ Business API for corporate partners. The ThinQ API allows for remote control of LG devices installed in homes or buildings and facilitates integration with various platforms.
For individual users, the ThinQ API supports the control and monitoring of AI appliances registered in the LG ThinQ app from various smart home platforms. By utilizing the ThinQ API, anyone can easily create a customized smart home that fits their lifestyle. For example, users of the global smart home platform Home Assistant can now connect and control 26 types of LG AI appliances, including refrigerators and washing machines, within their existing smart home environment. Home Assistant is a community-based open platform with about one million users worldwide who collaboratively develop various smart home functions such as device automation and feature expansion.
For enterprises, the ThinQ Business API supports partners operating office or residential buildings in integrating and managing various LG products, from appliances to commercial equipment like HVAC and signage, with their existing apps. For instance, large residential buildings can integrate LG appliances with their existing management apps for more convenient use. Residents can reserve the use of LG washers and dryers in common areas through the building management app, or administrators can detect abnormal conditions in the building using LG’s temperature and humidity sensors and quickly respond to issues through alert functions.
Meanwhile, LG has accelerated the integration of external products and services into the LG ThinQ platform by acquiring the smart home platform company Athom, known for its extensive IoT device connectivity. Athom’s smart home hub Homey currently connects over 50,000 types of appliances and IoT devices, and the Athom app store features around 1,000 apps that connect and control products and services from global brands like Philips and Aqara. LG plans to integrate Athom’s extensive open ecosystem and IoT device connectivity into the AI home hub LG ThinQ On, aiming to realize an AI home where generative AI better understands customers and provides optimal space solutions.
“With the official launch of ThinQ AI, we aim to deepen engagement with open-source community smart home power users in the open-source community and broaden our collaboration with B2B partners. This initiative will bolster our efforts to create smart home ecosystems powered by LG appliances, enhancing customer experiences across multiple touchpoints,” said Kim Kun-woo, vice president of LG’s Home Appliance Solution Company.

Samsung has made fridges with touchscreens before. LG has made fridges with doors that turn transparent to show you the inside. This year at CES 2018, those two ideas are finally merging into one with LG’s new InstaView ThinQ smart refrigerator, which features a 29-inch touchscreen that becomes transparent if users knock on it twice.
LG actually tried this two years ago, with a version called the Smart InstaView Door-in-Door that ran a full version of Windows 10, but it’s not clear that the company ever shipped the Windows version.
This version uses the touchscreen to manage your food using LG’s webOS software and Amazon’s Alexa, which will let you tag food with virtual stickers and expiration dates and get automatic reminders when things are running low or about to go bad. There’s also a wide-angle panoramic camera on the inside of the fridge that will let you remotely view your fridge while you’re out and about to check and see if you’re actually out of milk or not.

Unfortunately, the only image that LG has shared showing the fridge is a low-resolution shot on its YouTube page banner, but it seems that you’ll be able to still use the screen while it’s translucent, allowing you to tag food directly in a vaguely augmented reality-esque move.
LG is also touting how all of its ThinQ kitchen gadgets can talk to each other to make kitchen tasks easier. So your ThinQ fridge can talk to your EasyClean oven, which will help you cook food through step-by-step instructions from the recipe app from your fridge. Then, your EasyClean oven can notify your QuadWash dishwasher about the kind of meal you cooked, so it can more efficiently select a wash cycle for that dish. Of course, all this requires spending thousands of dollars replacing every appliance in your kitchen (and if this all works as well as LG claims it does), but it’s still an intriguing vision of a Jetsons-like future utopia.
No price or release date for the InstaView ThinQ refrigerator or any of LG’s other new appliances have yet been announced.
