Performing a search in webOS for a business is one of the easiest tasks, simply by performing a google search right from
link hidden, please login to view or by using a variety of apps that have . You can quickly get an address, phone number or even the hours of operation, but once you navigate off that search results page, the data is gone and would require you to perform another search in the future. While that isn’t a difficult task to repeat, some of those apps will give you option to save the result to your contact list so you can bring it up again in the future, even if you don't have a network connection. While there are quite a few apps that allow you to save a business search result as a contact, there are two that we find to work best: and Jan Herman's (72ka) . WhitePages wins out in pure speed to bring up your search query, and also includes residential (people) searches as well as business searches. We have found that the Google Maps app takes a little extra time to load up before you can search, but you are rewarded with additional information in the contact record, such as hours of operation and website address. In both cases, the contact record will be added to your default synergy account
To add a contact from White Pages, just perform a search, select on the result you want and then tap the  button on the bottom of the screen. You will then have the option to add the phone number and address to an existing contact or create a new one.
To add a contact from the Google Maps app, you also start by performing a search (from within the app, tap on the "Google Maps" section of the header bar to bring up a search box). Find the result on the map and tap the  icon to bring up an additional pop-up, then select the "Info" option to view a detailed results page. Then all you need to do is tap the  icon on the bottom right and choose the "Add to contacts" options in the resulting pop-up. Unlike in the WhitePages all, the only choice you have to is create a new record.
is available in the webOS App Catalog for free while  is available in the webOS Nation homebrew feed in Preware or webOS Quick Install.

This tip is currently only for devices running webOS 2.2.4
You always want to make sure that you have a backup of your critical data that you keep on your smartphone, and your contact list should be towards the top of your priority list when to comes to ensuring you have recent backup. If you use cloud-based synergy accounts for your contacts like Google Contacts, Facebook or Yahoo, you are probably less worried about having a backup since you can always go back to the source data and pull it down again. But if you use the Palm Profile or a different "local" account for your contact data, the only way to access your data is on the phone itself, and if the phone is lost or your backup gets corrupted, you run the risk of forever losing that data.  Luckily, there is a rather simple method to perform an
link hidden, please login to view. This is useful to not only create a backup of your data, but also would allow you to easily migrate your data to a different service like Google Contacts. Unfortunately, it appears that since webOS 2.1 this export does not include the "Spouse" or "Children" fields in your contacts, and the URL field is not saved with the right field type. This is obviously not ideal as you will no longer have a complete backup, nor will you be able to migrate all of your data to a different service. In order to combat this, webOS Nation forum member gizmo21 created the "Enhanced Contacts VCard Export" (available in preware) that will fix these issues when you perform an export of either a or
Currently, this patch is only available for webOS 2.2.4. If you would like to help gizmo1 test this patch for webOS 2.1 or 3.0.5, reply in the to let him know.

SynergGV 2, by Eric Blade, allows you to send and receive Google Voice messages directly in the stock Messaging app on your TouchPad (or
link hidden, please login to view), but has a pretty big limitation in that you can only initiate a conversation to someone in your Google Voice contacts list or by manually typing in the entire phone number. If you keep all your contacts in Google, this is a nonissue, but if you use your Palm Profile or Facebook to keep track of phone numbers, you are out of luck. That is, unless you know a little trick to initiate a conversation to anyone in your contact list, regardless of which synergy account they reside in. Unfortunately, you can not use to search for your contact, nor can you open an existing conversation with that contact.  In addition, this new Google Voice messaging conversation that you are about to create will not be integrated into that existing conversation like all other do, but will rather remain as a separate thread unless and until you add that contact and their associated phone number to your Google contacts.  Regardless, to send the Google Voice message to any contact, just follow the directions below
Open up the Messaging app Tap the  icon to create a new message Do a and then tap on the number you want to send a Google Voice message to. You will see that the contact's name, and not their number, should be listed in the "To" field.  Tap on that name to display the number. On the TouchPad, the number should be highlighted. Tap at the end of the number to place the cursor at the end of the number and then press the space bar On phones, the cursor should already be at the beginning of the number. Just press the space bar once Once you do that, the number will no longer be associated with your contact, but instead webOS will just think that it’s a number you manually entered. All you need to do is tap the  icon in the "IM WITH "(XXX) XXX-XXXX" USING" to address your Google Voice message with that contact As stated above, if you don't want to go through this hassle you just need to to your Google account and you should be able message with them directly in the future. Note, though, that this will not be available immediately as you need to wait for webOS to sync back between your Google and Google Voice accounts before it will show in your SynerGV account on your device.
is available in the webOS App Catalog for $4.99 and is compatible with all webOS devices running webOS 3.0 or higher. If you know how to use , you can install SynerGV on devices running 2.1 or higher after it was purchased on a TouchPad.

When you get an email from someone in your contact list, did you know that you can easily call, text, look up their address, or get access to any of the data from their contact record with just a single tap on the screen? From an email message on either webOS phones or the TouchPad, tap on the header that shows who was the sender of the email. On phones, this will bring you directly to that person's Contact record, while the TouchPad will give you a little pop-up dialog box with all of their information.  From here, you can tap on a phone number to call the person, tap on the SMS icon next to the phone number to text them, initiate a skype call, or perform any other action based on the data available, all without really leaving the email application. If you want to go back to the message, just
