Cannot sign in to my Google account in webOS

Question

Posted

Just bought the LG 55UM7300 yesterday. Opened the web browser today for the first time, and wanted to sign in to my Google account. I got this message:

"Couldn't sign you in. This browser or app may not be secure. Try using a different browser. If you're already using a supported browser, you can refresh your screen and try again to sign in."

I tried doing it again using

link hidden, please login to view
but got the same message. Since we don't have options for using other browsers, there may not be a way around this, but I thought I would check anyway. I'm using my secure home wi-fi network. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the same problem with Google and Google Mail sign in -- but only on one of my LG TVs.

The OLED55B6 suddenly won't sign in anymore, but the OLED65B7 will still sign just fine!!

I think the change was in Google's security code somehow.  They have
recently admitted to blocking some obscure Linux browsers, but haven't
detailed which ones, or why.  I suspect the LG webOS browser may be
one of those.

If so, they only blocked the version 05.30.60 browser in my B6 TV.
The later B7 runs version 05.80.50 and it still signs in normally.

Hallo,

I have the same problem with my LG OLED65C9PLA (purchased in November 2019).

It worked perfectly for a few months, but sinds a month I have the same problem like you.

Has the problem now been solved for you?

Kind regards

Yes.  Mine started working again.  I think it is entirely controlled by Google, though they have never acknowledged it.

For some reason the TV is recognized as an iPhone now.  :-/

webOS updated, I think to 2023, on my C2 a couple of days ago. Since then the News option on the Sky News app no longer works, instead timing out. The Weather and Climate options still work, though.
I have deleted and reloaded the Sky News app, but the problem remains.
Does anybody have any suggestions of what I might try to get this working again, or is this something for LG, or Sky, to fix?
