DLNA not refreshing files

Question

Posted

Hello, I have a LG OLED C9 and a Synology Diskstation (Wifi). The LG shows in DLNA only very old files. I can't see new addes files/folders or I see deleted files. There is no "Refresh"-Button. Currently the DLNA for LG OLED C9 is unfortunately useless.

I've seen in my research that that's been a problem for LG TVs for years. How can that be? Is there any workaround or trick to update DLNA?

I store my media on a PC using the DLNA built into Windows to serve the files.  I've never seen this.

Unplug the TV power cord from the wall for at least 5 minutes and retry

If it'still not updated, I suspect your NAS is the problem.

Here is the link to setup multimedia sharing on Synology NAS using DLNA

link hidden, please login to view

I also use a Synology nas with a LG smart TV and I have not encountered the problem you are describing

Sometimes the same problem here.

If tv does not show new added files on  NAS then i select an item in the Map Music.

The tv will not see any files and will respond with empty

.At the same moment the tv Will update DLNA

now you can select new files in the map video.

Yes its a hit or miss with refresh.  If you have a fairly new/capable NAS install PLEX on it. Then install PlEX on your tv as well. It organises your media and everything splendidly.

Otherwise power cycle the tv.

Like the author said, a "Refresh" button would be great.

I've had the same problem with a media server on Windows 10 on my older UK6300 and now on my Nano80, I solved it by turning off the Quick Start+ option in All Settings -> General -> Additional Settings.
It's not ideal since it cause the TV to take more time loading, but the refresh is more important to me.

There is currently only one reliable way, that I know of, to refresh the DLNA files. You have to fully power off the tv and turn it back on. When you press the power button, it does not fully power off. You can either unplug the tv(very inconvenient) or another way I have figured out, go in to settings>general>user agreements, remove the check marks and then hit accept(a bit less inconvenient). Your tv should tell you that it needs to reboot and it will then do a true restart. When you access your DLNA server, it will update the files.

On your NAS, go the the DLNA setup. My Seagate NAS allows me to select how often the DLNA updates.  My was set for once per day (minimum setting), therefore I had the same problems you did, when I added or deleted files I wouldn't see the changes on my TV.  I then changed my setting to every 5 minutes (maximum setting), bingo that did it.  I don't the impact of  doing it so often, so I changed it to every 4 hours now knowing how the system works.   With all that said ... I do believe the LG WebOS Smart TV setting also has something to do with it, I just haven't figured that out yet.

Same problem here - unbelievable, but true.  On our brand new LG OLED TV 55BX many DNLA video files even become unplayable from one day to the other.

So far I fixed all of the above disasters by unplugging the network cable for a short moment.  That refreshes all DNLA files and also fixes the "unable to play"  bla bla...   Even the "refresh" option in the top right corner didn‘t help. It refreshes the list of extern storage devices.

Thanks to all these huge companies for spending millions in marketing rather than functioning. I know its not easy - being a software engineer myself - but there seem to be far to few of them amongst the management.

Thanks for the "All Settings -> General -> Additional Settings > Quick Start+ off" suggestion.
I had been working around this problem, when it occasionally occurred, by taking the power cable out of the back of my TV (an LG-43UM7400PLB) and putting it back in, but I don't want to keep doing that, and risk wear and tear.

So this approach, which worked when I tried it just now, seems much better, and turning the TV on doesn't seem much slower, maybe 10 seconds.

Another workaround to refresh the listed DNLA files is to remove the ethernet cable for just a second. This reacquires the list, but doesn‘t work for wireless lan …

I did try that again today,, before finding this suggestion, because it had worked sometimes in the past (I have my TV connected via ethernet), but today it didn't work.

I'm hoping that turning Quick Start+ off will be a more consistent solution, but I'll have to give it some time to see.

      Hey everyone,
I'm new here, so first of all, hello I'm delos.
I own two LG OLED55G19 TVs, one at home and one elsewhere. At home, I have a QNAP NAS (TS451) with DLNA functionality. Accessing it at home works great.
The "Home" and "External" networks are connected via VPN. Thus, both networks have different network addresses.
Now I want to access the home network from the external network with the LG via VPN in order to integrate the DLNA server. The LG doesn't "see" the external server because it's not in the same network. However, I wonder why you can't just enter the IP address of the server in the LG.
      Does anyone have a solution?

      Many greetings
      delos

Since the last webos update to 3.40.87, I find I have to completely power cycle the TV (a G1 65" OLED) every week or so to get the DLNA client back to functioning properly. I have a media server running Serviio on a Raspberry Pi, and I periodically get one of the following two problems, both of which are fixed by completely power-cycling the TV.
When I'm using the DLNA client to select videos from the server, I get no response from trying to select a video or series using the remote. The remote continues to work fine when used with other apps (eg Netflix, Stan etc) on the TV. When the DLNA client is playing a video from the server, the audio is delayed by a couple of seconds from the video. At the time that the TV is showing either of these problems, I can access the media server using either BubbleUPnP on my phone or VLC on my PC, and neither of them have any problem either selecting videos or playing them back with the audio synced with the video, so the problem is clearly with the TV, and power-cycling the TV gets rid of whichever problem is manifesting itself.

Our LG TV does not show files properly when a new file is added in a directory.
We have a Synology diskstation ethernet drive with DLNA and if we download a new file (in the dedicated download folder) or we copy a file from a PC to a folder, the file is not seen in the LG TV.
Sometimes it's there in few minutes, sometimes it's not visible for days! turn on&off is not working.
If we want to watch a video we need to load it on a USB stick, which is definitely not nice in 2019.
Looking at synology forums the DLNA file list should be automatically updated when a new file is added, is there any way to force refresh from LG app?

      Thanks
