LG Magic remote MR18BA not working

Question

Posted

Magic remote stopped working after tv was taken to a different place, I have reset the tv a few times, remote has new batteries, the method to de-register and register doesn't work, all buttons work except the ones labelled: Netflix, amazon, Live zoom, and the microphone. When i press the microphone button I get the following message: Press OK to register theMagic Remote with your tv, when I do it I get the message: Only specific remote model can be paired.

My tv is an Oled55B6T, and according to LG the magic Remote MR18BA.

If is not possible to get it working I would like to get rid of the annoying message: "Only specific remote model can be paired." It shows up everytime I change channels or do any other funtion like choosing to watch Netflix or Youtube, etc.

@oscarodas The magic remotes split the button functions between regular Infra-Red (for power, volume and the other defined buttons that you have that work), but the others rely on BlueTooth technology, similar to how a PC Wireless Mouse communicates. There is a very small circuit board inside (about 2 inches square), that is a Combo card, supplying both the Bletooth AND the WiFi functions. I had mine fail a few months back, after a storm. I have a spare card, but I have not bothered to replace it yet, as I found a workaround (see below):

I downloaded the "LG TV PLUS" app into my smart phone, and it works as a very good replacement for those lost functions. I beleive this works for most Android and Apple phones. Small learning cureve, but generally easy to use, so long as your TV is on the home network. If the card has failed completely (so no WiFi as well), try using a LAN cable direct to your router.

@td47. Thank you, I installed the app and it works like a charm, i will test it a little more, but still I have the problem of the constant message at the top of the screen remaining me about the remote, I have tried every possible fix suggested in the net, even pulled the remote apart and cleaned with alcohol wipes to no avail, do you think that buying a new remote will solve the problem? they range from 54 to 77 AU. When you mention the small card, you mean the one inside the remote?  Thanks.

@oscarodas While it IS possibly  a remote fault, I would think it is MUCH more likely to be the Bluetooth functionality failing inside the TV. The little combo card is inside the TV. If you know what you are doing, it is easy to replace (take back cover off TV, locate the little card, unplug cable, carefully put in the new card, plug the little ribbon cable plug back in). If still under warrantee, try to get it done via LG service.

      Hello,
A few years ago I bought a 43" LG Model 43UK6200PUA, manufactured in 2018. I'm from Canada but I purchased this TV in the US. It was a store demo unit on for a great price. I took it home to Canada, set the location to Canada and setup up in our bedroom.  It has been working fine with our Fiber TV service as well as Netflix, Amazon etc. We also to have a 60" LG TV in the living room which was purchased in Canada. This TV is similar in age to the one in the bedroom. Recently I started watching the LG channels on the living room  TV. I hadn't really paid much attention to them before but now I enjoy them. My problem is that the LG channels do not work on the bedroom TV. I suspect because it was purchased in the US but located in Canada. With the location set to Canada the LG channel guide populates and shows what's on however when I select a program I get the following message.
LG Channels can't be serviced if a user changes 'LG Service Country' from Settings. In order to use LG Channels service, please restore 'LG Service Country' to its condition of original purchase
So if I change the location to the US I get this message.
Sorry, LG Channels is not available in your location. Please set your location to your current location in the settings. If you are in the service area, please visit www.lgappstv.com for help.
As you can see the messages sort of contradict each other also the website mentioned www.lgappstv.com is not working. I suspect that the location for this TV is set to the US at some deeper level. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't searched this forum, but there has to be others who find that tv remote pointer to be extremely annoying. I'm actually surprised that we still can't turn that feature off. Having the cursor/pointer feature isn't even close to the importance of being able to shut off. I mean, how hard is to put one checkbox in the ui to toggle the feature on or off? It seems like a no-brainer, big bang for the buck change that many users would appreciate

My magic remote and my Roku remote stopped working for turning off power so I performed a factory reset after troubleshooting to get the remote working.  I am now stuck at the 1st screen of the Factory Reset which says "Press the OK Button(wheel) on your remote."  Well... this really stinks because the remote doesn't work!!!  I have tried a USB mouse, a new magic remote, other LG Remotes with no luck.  I have also tried using the button on the bottom of the tv.  And, I contacted support which was just an exercise in redoing everything I had already tried... No Luck!!
This is a Nano Cell 55NANO81ANA which is basically just a big brick now since I cannot even use any of the inputs.  Does anyone have a trick for getting past this initial screen???
      Thanks for the help.
