In the Korea press, readers will often run across the term MZ Generation. No, this isn’t a new K-Pop group but a forced pairing of two groups – Millennials and Gen Z – which the rest of the world views as separate and distinct demographic cohorts. Separating consumers into different generations is useful for researchers and social scientists, who measure and document differences in attitudes and behaviors.

Similar to how the term untact marketing was coined in South Korea to refer to connecting with consumers intimately but in a safer, more convenient and era-appropriate manner, MZ Generation is meant to more effectively describe the new consumer target that has quickly become the focus of many brands. Millennials (born 1981-1996) and Gen Z (born 1997-2012) cohorts may be distinctly separate in age but there are many similarities in the two groups as well, and this is the point that Koreans seem to find more compelling. After all, according to the Pew Research Center, “generational cutoff points aren’t an exact science.”

What makes Millennials and Z Gen similar – and what Koreans find more relevant, it seems – are that both demographics are digitally fluent, come from diverse backgrounds, care about social justice and climate change, and tend to be more educated than previous generations. When entering adulthood, both have been impacted by economic downturns and uncertainty, such as the 2008 financial crisis and the current COVID-19 pandemic. On a deeper level, MZ share common characteristics in their relationship with brands – it’s all about transparency and authenticity. Both want brands to mirror their values and dynamically cater to their preferences. Such values and preferences can range from beauty/fashion brands featuring ‘real’ women of various colors/shapes/sizes in their campaigns (i.e. ), to food/beverage brands becoming more health-centric/using natural ingredients (i.e. ), to automotive brands making conscious efforts towards conserving the environment via expansion into renewable energy (i.e. ), and so on. Note that all of the reference brands are some of MZ’s favorites.

Where does this obsession with transparency and authenticity come from? It’s fair to assume that such values developed in the post-modern, digital world – as MZers have increasingly grown up with social media, often facing challenges of maintaining their online personas and real-world-selves, as well as discovering truths in seas of misinformation/fake news, they are in constant pursuit of discovering authentic and transparent initiatives.

If a brand promotes a CSR initiative in a developing country, MZ want to know about it. A brand pledges to become carbon neutral by 2025? They want to know about that as well. MZers are attracted to activities that reflect their values, especially in the context of the brands’ missions – a quality uniquely distinct from any prior generation.

MZ also strive to become the best versions of themselves, expecting brands to play an active role in that journey. Whether by helping them live more sustainably by providing reusable packaging with their foods/beverages, or educating them on how to participate in social justice campaigns by providing resources on how to donate to particular causes, or building platforms via social media channels where MZ can have a voice and make creative contributions. Through such intentional initiatives, supporting MZ in terms of their self-improvement and yet providing them autonomy, brands can become the young generation’s ally and work together to make life truly good.

MZ-generation-04-600x338.jpg

In that vein, LG has launched the MZ Project aimed at handing the content and creative power over to the young generation, thereby empowering them to craft their own stories and personal brands – be it through music or film. As LG “encourages their diverse and limitless possibilities,” MZ is encouraged to continue their creative and positive contributions to the world, especially in times of such incredible uncertainty.

MZ-generation-05-600x339.png

At the cusp of major milestones in life, MZers are still exploring and learning to understand the complicated nuances of the world – and to have a brand helping them engage with their peers/inspirations, as well as get closer to achieving their dreams, makes their lives a bit easier to navigate. And that’s exactly what LG wants to communicate to MZ – that no matter what they do and where they are, LG is there to support their creative endeavors and ensure that ultimately… Life’s Good.

Imagine a world where every moment is savored and each experience deeply cherished. This life of fulfillment is no longer a distant dream but a reality, thanks to LG’s bold optimism and relentless drive to innovate. The company’s goal is to shape a future where it’s easy to appreciate the smaller things in life and where Life’s Good for everyone, no matter where they live.

In line with this dedication to creating a happier, more connected future for all, LG Saudi Arabia organized its first-ever K-POP World Festival on August 3 at JAX District’s Cultural and Art zone in Riyadh. To foster cultural unity and mutual respect, LG invited the nation’s biggest K-pop enthusiasts to promote a special and vibrant cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
The warehouse was packed with excited fans, who created an incredibly energetic atmosphere as each act performed. The local fan base’s devotion to the world’s fastest-growing music genre was demonstrated by the hundreds of people outside who couldn’t get inside, decked out in traditional clothes like hijabs and abayas while singing and dancing to their favorite Korean songs. The festival was a perfect picture of how K-pop has found a special place in Saudi hearts, harmonizing with the local culture.

With 30 teams from across Saudi Arabia competing in the preliminaries, the best 10 progressed to the final. After a fiercely contested final showdown, the coveted title was awarded to the Saudi female trio dance group, Everlast, who captivated the audience with a dynamic performance and their undeniable talent. This victory qualifies Everlast for the K-pop festival finals which will be held in Changwon, South Korea, in October.

The winners each received a premium LG product, such as an XBOOM speaker, CineBeam Q projector, LG InstaView Refrigerator or LG OLED Posé TV. These high-end prizes, which reflect LG’s dedication to recognizing top talent and promoting technological innovation, were also showcased during the festival to let attendees interact with and experience the company’s latest offerings in person.

Under the partnership of the Korean Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Entertainment Academy (SEA) and LG, this vibrant celebration of two unique cultures underscored the strengthening cultural and diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The honey bee’s impact on the global ecosystem extends far beyond the confines of its hive. Through pollination, bees contribute to the growth of plants, the thriving of habitats and the sustenance of animals. Recognizing the vital role of bees, the United Nations has designated May 20 as World Bee Day. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (
link hidden, please login to view) supports this initiative, emphasizing that bees pollinate 71 out of the 100 crop species that provide 90 percent of the world’s food.  As a leading corporate citizen committed to combating climate change, LG is dedicated to creating a more sustainable planet through its ‘Better Life for All’ vision. In addition to adhering to local environmental protection policies, LG fulfills its social responsibilities as a global company by preserving local biodiversity and fostering sustainable ecosystems.

One of LG’s subsidiaries, LG Spain, has been undertaking the ‘Smart Green Bees’ project since last year to promote the cultivation and nurturing of plants. This initiative aims to address the declining population of Iberian honey bees (apis melifera), an endangered subspecies that has the potential to pollinate 100 percent of Spain’s flora.

To support the recovery of these ecosystems, Smart Green Bees has introduced new hives and implemented advanced monitoring systems to ensure the well-being of these important animals. Remarkably, the Spanish subsidiary has increased the number of Iberian bees by 3.5 million in just over a year.

LG Germany is also contributing to bee conservation efforts through a social initiative that involves distributing ‘insect hotels’ to employees and social media community. These miniature hotels, made from sustainable local forestry materials like solid wood and natural reeds, are created by individuals with disabilities.

Each bee-related environmental project outlined demonstrates how LG and its people are making genuine efforts to address important local environmental issues.

Stay tuned to to see how LG subsidiaries across the globe are promoting a greener planet for all.

LG first incorporated Wi-Fi modules into its home appliances over a decade ago, and since then, the company has continued to enhance home living with its groundbreaking innovations. A leader in the fast-growing AI home appliance market, LG is now applying its proprietary on-device AI chip – the ‘DQ-C’ – to its latest lifestyle solutions, infusing them with the unique power of ‘Affectionate Intelligence.’
Introduced by CEO William Cho at CES 2024, Affectionate Intelligence underscores LG’s commitment to delivering differentiated customer experiences via cutting-edge AI technology that is more caring, empathetic and attentive.

Affectionate Intelligence is built on three pillars: Real-time Life Intelligence, drawing insights from real-life data gleaned from our global LG smart products and diverse IoT devices; Orchestrated Intelligence, seamlessly coordinating the operation of interconnected devices in alignment with customer preferences and intentions; and Responsible Intelligence, ensuring secure learning and adaptation, upholding privacy and integrity while delivering personalized experiences.

Enhancing Convenience with an Expanded ‘Affectionate Intelligence’ Lineup
LG’s expanded Affectionate Intelligence home appliance lineup now boasts 11 product categories: air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, Styler, air purifiers, robot vacuums, refrigerators, electric ranges, dishwashers, water purifiers and TVs.

Launched earlier this year in South Korea, the Affectionate Intelligence stand-type air conditioner offers unparalleled comfort with enhanced ‘AI Smart Care,’1 a feature that detects the user’s location in real time and automatically adjusts airflow directionality, intensity and temperature. Another innovative addition is the WashCombo all-in-one washer and dryer, which selects the optimal drum motions from LG’s 6Motion technology to gently yet thoroughly care for user’s laundry2 after analyzing each load’s weight, humidity level and fabric types.
Looking ahead, LG plans to evolve its Affectionate Intelligence into a generative AI-based service that extends beyond the smart home to diverse sectors and spaces, including mobility and online.

LG’s AI Home Appliances: From Wi-Fi Modules to Hyper-Personalized ThinQ UP 2.0
In 2011, LG became the first manufacturer to apply Wi-Fi modules to its home appliances. Six years later, in 2017, the company expanded Wi-Fi connectivity to most of its appliance lineups, introducing the LG ThinQ brand and ushering in the era of AI home appliances.
In January 2022, LG elevated customization and convenience with the launch of ThinQ UP, allowing the addition of new features to compatible LG appliances based on the analysis of customers’ usage patterns and habits. ThinQ UP home appliances operate intelligently, reducing the time and effort associated with household chores. They also offer flexible subscription options along with the ability to add new user-friendly services. With 336 downloadable ThinQ UP features now available3 – and more being added regularly – users can continually update their existing appliances for a tailored, always-evolving customer experience.
Last year, LG signaled the beginning of a new era for AI appliances with the South Korean debut of ThinQ UP 2.0. This latest smart life solution from the company offers hyper-personalization with advanced, new features plus a range of subscription services from LG and various partner companies.

Dedicated On-Device AI Chip Lineup and Expanded Application
In July 2023, after more than three years of research and development, LG revealed the DQ-C chip – a sophisticated on-device AI chip – and a brand-new operating system for home appliances. Last year, the company also established an organization specifically tasked with developing the next-generation of AI chips for future Affectionate Intelligence home appliances. This forms part of LG’s strategy to diversify its growing portfolio of state-of-the-art AI chips, and to bring the many benefits and advantages of AI-powered performance and features to more customers.

With ‘Affectionate Intelligence’ and impressive core technologies, LG has solidified its position as a global leader in the home appliances industry, and cemented its reputation as a smart life solutions company.

The ‘Doi Moi’ generation,* known for their social media savvy and drive for upward mobility, exerts a considerable influence on Vietnam’s fast-growing economy. Recognizing the importance of connecting with this demographic, LG has opened the dynamic ‘Another Saigon’ brand experience space in the heart of bustling Ho Chi Minh City.

At Another Saigon, visitors are immersed in four distinct areas that offer a comprehensive experience of the LG brand and its newest products, featuring leading technologies and reflecting the latest lifestyle trends. Moreover, the space showcases charming miniatures of displayed appliances and provides a seamless purchasing experience through QR codes, transforming the customer journey from brand exploration to product acquisition.
The exhibition space is thoughtfully divided into four sections: Hello, LG zone, which underscores LG’s commitment to ESG principles for a Better Life for All; The Curation of Good Life zone, which focuses on Objet Collection appliances and spatial/interior design integration; The Solution of Good Life zone, which seamlessly connects visitors to the online brand shop via product miniatures and QR codes, and introduces the stories of LG’s Core Techs and The Joy of Good Life zone, where LG’s MoodUP refrigerators with color-changing door panels (controllable via the ThinQ app) are artfully displayed.

Located on the ground floor of Another Saigon, Hello, LG zone highlights some of the many activities and initiatives LG undertakes globally to foster a sustainable future. This zone also introduces lifestyle solutions such as the LG PuriCare AeroFurniture, Styler ShoeCare and Styler ShoeCase, all featuring components made from environmentally friendly recycled plastics. The refrigerators’ advanced LED door panels switch colors in sync with LED displays installed around the zone, illuminating the space with a delightful dance of inspiring color. Visitors are encouraged to capture the vibrant display and upload images and videos to share their experiences on social media.
Additionally, Another Saigon reveals LG’s commitment to collaborating with local enterprises to realize a more sustainable future for Vietnam. Courtesy of upcycling design group Dong Dong, visitors can take home an upcycled laundry bag in one of the sophisticated colors from the Objet Collection. What’s more, they can enjoy beverages from Cacao Land, a Vietnamese chain specializing in fair-trade cocoa drinks, and try out exciting video games from VNG Games, Vietnam’s leading game distributor.
Back in South Korea, where the company is headquartered, LG has opened a series of ‘Another Life’ offline experience spaces to offer a welcoming atmosphere while providing customers with exclusive opportunities to interact with and learn about LG’s lifestyle-enhancing products. The first to open was the ‘Another Kitchen’ experience space in 2022, dedicated to the company’s smart, stylish and efficient kitchen appliances. Next came ‘Another Vibe,’ a space focusing on community revitalization in the nation’s lively and always-evolving capital city, Seoul. Last year, the ‘Another House’ experience space was set up to help reinvigorate the local economy by breathing new life into abandoned houses, while ‘Another Style’ highlights the LG Styler as well as the importance of minimizing environmental impact.

Delivering a differentiated brand experience, Another Saigon is enabling LG to form new connections with Vietnam’s young generations. Notably, 86 percent of visitors to the space have been in their 20s and 30s, with the vast majority expressing positive feedback about the energetic and enriching environment LG has brought to Ho Chi Minh City.
Through establishing creative, interactive spaces like Another Saigon, LG continues to engage and connect with young consumers around the world, introducing them to a smarter way of living and sharing its firmly-held belief in a Better Life for All.

LG’s Innovative In-Vehicle Infotainment Capabilities Combine With Magna’s Cutting-
Edge ADAS and AD Technologies in Companies’ Latest Collaboration

SEOUL, Jan. 4, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) will hold a private demonstration for major automakers at CES 2024, introducing a new cross domain platform integrating Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Automated Driving (AD) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) technologies. Developed by LG in collaboration with Magna, a global mobility tech company, the game-changing future mobility platform is expected to arrive on the market in the near future.
Initiated in 2023, the collaboration leverages the combined technological prowess of LG and Magna, to help deliver differentiated user experiences in the vehicle cabin. The two companies have successfully integrated a cross domain cockpit computing system into a single System on Chip (SoC) representing a flexible and cost-effective solution for OEMs.
The single electronic module supports multiple IVI systems and ADAS/AD domain integration, and can efficiently handle various Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) requirements while using fewer electronic control units and taking up less packaging space. This scalable solution is ideal for the coming transition towards the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) and for the consolidation of its electrical/electronic architecture. The integration of functionalities into a single module enables the real-time sharing of rich data across domains.
Via a dedicated Human Machine Interface (HMI), LG’s platform can provide drivers and passengers with compelling, new experiences – and more intuitive interactions – when using advanced automotive displays, digital clusters, Augmented Reality-Head Up Displays (AR-HUD) and visualization software. Additionally, the solution can be customized to meet any OEM’s integrated communications and IVI system needs. 2027 model year vehicles are expected to be the first to benefit from this advanced technology.
“We are extremely pleased with the progress we have made on this future mobility technology,” said Eun Seok-hyun, president of LG Vehicle component Solutions Company. “LG and Magna’s joint efforts will help push the industry forward, facilitating the rapid adoption of crucial technologies that elevate driving safety and the on-road experience.”
Another successful collaboration between the two companies, LG Magna e-Powertrain unites Magna’s expertise in electric powertrain systems with LG’s capabilities in component development for e-motors, inverters and on-board chargers. Announced in 2021, the joint venture, which encompasses engineering, design and manufacturing, enables LG and Magna to proactively respond to market trends and deliver innovative solutions to fulfill customers’ evolving needs.
