Unpair Magic Remote while tv is off.

Question

Posted

Hello,

I unpaired the Magic Remote of my LG OLED 55B7 tv by pressing "Back+Recents" buttons on the remote, while it was off and not connected to a power outlet. The remote control blinked 3 times.

Then I turned my tv on and the tv wasn't recognizing the remote, so by pressing the "Ok" button in the remote, the tv paired with it and displayed a message confirming it.

My question is about the mechanism in all of this: since my tv was off, how did the tv itself forget the remote?

Is the pairing process stored both in the tv and remote?

Will there be some "left over" pairing stored in the tv related to the procedure while it was off?

Many thanks.

@MagicR As this is Bluetooth Protocol, it is a bit like a wireless mouse and its dongle, but smarter. The paired device codes are stored on both devices, as you might have TWO LG TV's, so each TV would need to know which Magic Remote to listen and respond to.

Hello td47, so the codes are stored in both devices (remote and tv).  Since the tv was off while I unpaired the remote, I understand that by doing the procedure the remote forgot the code.

My question is how the tv forgot the code since it was off?

Many thanks td47.

@MagicR Do you mean OFF as in unplugged, or OFF as in STANDBY? Some electronic logic is still powered during standby,  so the remote works (or not if you unpaired it).

I mean OFF as in unplugged.

I mean OFF as in unplugged.
Hi! I believe that about this pairing process with the web os tv, there is a similar pairing code both on the tv and the magic remote, whenever you turn the tv of or unplug it or plug and turning it on the code is still the same has the one in the magic remote, when you unplug the web os tv has I said the code remains the same, but when you unpaired the magic remote the pairing code in the magic remote is reset so it change, while the code in the web os tv remains the same, then when you plug it back and turn it on the tv and use the magic remote, it send a signal or command to the tv and the tv does not recognize the magic remote because the pairing code on the magic remote has been change because of the unpaired. Therfore the web os tv show a message to clarify that pairing the magic remote is needed, so you pair again the magic remote and the web os tv so the code on both devices matches again, therefore working together again.

Sorry I use to many word to explain this someone else would have done a better work
Thanks for reading hope you understand what I mean. Have a great day. God bless you.

Hello Steel, thank you for your answer and I understood it.

Yeah I believe something similar to your theory.

My theory is that the remote does an "active pairing", storing the tv id. And the tv does a "passive pairing" of the remote id.

When unpairing while the tv is off, the remote actively deletes the pairing information. When the tv is on, the remote sends a "blank" pairing information and the tv receives it and... clears the pairing info of the remote?

My magic remote and my Roku remote stopped working for turning off power so I performed a factory reset after troubleshooting to get the remote working.  I am now stuck at the 1st screen of the Factory Reset which says "Press the OK Button(wheel) on your remote."  Well... this really stinks because the remote doesn't work!!!  I have tried a USB mouse, a new magic remote, other LG Remotes with no luck.  I have also tried using the button on the bottom of the tv.  And, I contacted support which was just an exercise in redoing everything I had already tried... No Luck!!
This is a Nano Cell 55NANO81ANA which is basically just a big brick now since I cannot even use any of the inputs.  Does anyone have a trick for getting past this initial screen???
      Thanks for the help.

So I'm thinking about buying an oled65g46ls, however the included 'magic' remote would be useless to me, due to health issues (tremors).  So my question is, do any other LG remotes work with the G4?.

      Hey everyone,
I'm new here, so first of all, hello I'm delos.
I own two LG OLED55G19 TVs, one at home and one elsewhere. At home, I have a QNAP NAS (TS451) with DLNA functionality. Accessing it at home works great.
The "Home" and "External" networks are connected via VPN. Thus, both networks have different network addresses.
Now I want to access the home network from the external network with the LG via VPN in order to integrate the DLNA server. The LG doesn't "see" the external server because it's not in the same network. However, I wonder why you can't just enter the IP address of the server in the LG.
      Does anyone have a solution?

      Many greetings
      delos
