Slow internet speeds

Question

Posted

I have recently bought a 48 inch lg oled.  For some reason I am getting super slow internet speeds no faster than 10 megabits at the tv even though I have Fiber internet.  I have it directly connected with cat 5 Ethernet cable to my Internet providers gateway.  I tested  the same cable and port with other devices and I am getting near 1 gig of speed.  What gives

Hi, May I ask how you test the ethernet speed ?

Also the ethernet interface on LG TV is limited to 100 mb/s.

If you have netflix you can test your internet speed from within neflix.

On my LG Oled C7 I connected a usb 3 ethernet adapter. The LG TV will say something is connected and you cannot use this ethernet adapter to update the firmware for instance.

But when using netflix or other apps it will use the ethernet adapter.

With netflix testing i have about 700 mb/s now instead of the 94 when using the tv's ethernet adapter.

This is a great solution to getting around the 100 Mbps limit on the TV's Ethernet connection. I have a 1 Gbps fiber connection and have been frustrated by this limit -- even though my LG webOS OLED TV is wired into the router using Cat 5e cable I only get about 100 Mbps and sometimes experience buffering when streaming movies. So I'm definitely trying this.

BTW, you can test speed using Speedtest by Ookla, available here:

. As long as you can pull up a web browser on your TV you can use this site.

Follow up: so I connected the Ethernet cable to a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter and plugged it in to the TV's USB port.

My download speed went from 95 Mbps to 346 Mbps. The reason it didn't go higher (it's a 1 Gbps fiber connection) is, I think, because the TV uses USB 2.0 version in its ports, which aren't capable of 1 Gbps speeds.

But for $14 I essentially more than tripled my download speed.

I found a way to boost my download speed! I went into the connection settings on my TV and switched the IP address to manual. Then, I entered a custom IP address that works on my network instead of using the automatic setting. This bumped up my download speed from 7 MB to 22 MB! Just make sure the IP address you choose isn't already in use on your network.

I set the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it didn't change too much. How can you manually config your IP address ?

      Hi,
I recently bought an LG UK6500PLA TV (my first LG), but I have a difficult time streaming content (Wifi connected), e.g. Netflix series is streaming in low resolution.  The router is only 10 feet away from TV (but ethernet is not an option) and uses a 5GH frequency range.
I have tried making a speed test at fast.com, for both the TV (through the Webbrowser) and for my laptop and iPhone. The speed test for TV showed 2.5 Mbps and my laptop and iPhone showed 110 Mbps. Can there really be such a big difference? I am starting to wonder if this might be a warranty issue?
Do any of you guys have experience with bad Wifi reception on your LG TV or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

      Br,
      Nick

LG50UK6950. The programme guide is slow to load, and has to re-load for each page. My previous LG tv (a 49UK.....) was the same.
Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba and Sony are almost instantaneous.
Is this a hardware problem, eg lack of memory, or software - in which case is it ever going to be fixed?

I have problems with one of my WebOS TVs which looks like a speed problem, but when I do a speed check on my iPhone from just a few feet away the connection speed looks fine.  Thanks,  Bob

Is there any reason why I have to wait up to 5 minutes for "checking" to complete and "Internet connected". IPTV, YouTube etc will nnot load until this is complete

Hello, about 6 months ago my family bought a LG tv, I do not know the exact model or the name of it, but it has just destroyed the other internet connections when it is on, making my normal 50mb download speed go down to something around 2. It isn't just for my pc, it is for the Xbox in the living room too, as it suffers a little less than my computer but is sill a big and noticeable difference. I like to use 5Ghz internet, but 2.4Ghz is better for this, the router is closer to the TV if that is a question, and the internet in all my games just suck too, when the TV is off I have an average of 40ms on Overwatch 2, but when it is on I have near 500-600ms, Valorant is the same thing with average 20ms and when on its near average of 300ms, and I could make a claim about this for every games I've ever played.

If somebody has an answer please reply to this.
