LG’s business practices and technological innovations reflect a deep-held desire to help improve people’s lives and make a positive impact on the planet. LG always believes that Life’s Good and aims to create innovative technologies and products that present exceptional values, contributing to a smarter, more convenient way of living and ultimately leading to a Better Life for All. This belief led LG to establish the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, an innovation challenge that was held for the very first time in 2022.

LIFE’S GOOD AWARD

First announced at CES 2022, the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD gave innovators from all around the world the opportunity to share their novel ideas for technology-driven solutions targeting environmental sustainability – Innovation for the Planet – or accessibility – Innovation for People.

A total of 334 entrants – individuals and groups – from 61 countries participated in LG’s inaugural innovation challenge, with four finalists chosen among them by an expert jury comprised of renowned ESG scholars, LG’s own executives and the head of LG Technology Ventures. Revealed at CES 2023, Dot Inc. and Day1Lab of South Korea, SOLUTUM of Israel and NONA Technologies of the United States will compete in a final pitching session to decide the ultimate winner.

Dot Inc.: Bridging the Information Divide for People With Visual Impairments

“We want to build bridges that connect the visually impaired to their families, and to society.”

Since 2015, South Korea’s Dot Inc. has been working on creating assistive technology for the visually impaired, such as the highly inventive Dot Braille Smartwatch. Dot Inc. has more than 120 technology patents to its name and was the winner of Titanium Lion at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2022. The company also won Best of Innovation in the Accessibility category at CES 2023.

Dot Inc.’s entry for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD is ‘Dot pad’, a display solution designed to bridge the information gap for the visually impaired. With 2,400 braille pins – or ‘dots’ – which move up and down, the novel device converts images, maps and other diverse digital information from connected devices such as computers and mobile phones into tactile graphics for visually impaired users to feel and comprehend. Thanks to Dot Inc.’s innovative ‘Dot Cell’ electromagnet actuator technology, the game-changing device is twenty times smaller and ten times lighter than similar types of displays currently on the market, providing a far more convenient way for sight-impaired users to find and access information.

Day1Lab: Reducing Microplastics With Biodegradable Plastic Technology

“We want to see the dawn of a plastic-free world.”

Starting life in 2021 as a research team at Korea’s Seoul National University College of Engineering, Day1Lab strives to develop alternative plastic materials to solve the global problem of microplastic waste. The environmentally focused startup has been honored with various awards, including the K-Startup Award (Prime Minister of State Award), the Environmental Entrepreneurship Idea Award (Minister of Environment Award) and the SK hynix Startup Idea Award.

For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, Day1Lab presented a carbohydrate complex alternative plastic solution that, according to the startup’s internal test results, completely degrades naturally in freshwater after about two weeks, and in the earth after about two months. The jury lauded Day1Lab’s waste-fighting invention, noting its superiority over petroleum-based solutions which are the current status quo for biodegradable plastic solutions. With ongoing research in biodegradable plastics for a microplastic-free world, there’s much more to come in Day1Lab’s future.

SOLUTUM: Bioplastic That Dissolves Without Toxic Residue

“What would you like to leave behind for future generations?”

SOLUTUM is an innovative clean-tech startup that, like Day1Lab, is targeting the monumental challenge of ending plastic pollution. The company has successfully developed a novel plastic material and biodegradable technologies and has been selected as a sustainability innovator by Mass Challenge, the Coller Startup Competition and Seagate.

For the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD, SOLUTUM proposed a new plastic solution that degrades naturally without leaving behind any toxins. The material decomposes almost completely (90.2 percent) when put in freshwater for 56 days, and can be produced on existing plastic assembly lines – factors that have helped SOLUTUM secure a partnership with a leading beverage company.

NONA Technologies: Desalination Solution for Combating the Climate Crisis and Water Scarcity

“Make your own purified water anywhere.”

Made up of MIT School of Engineering and Sloan School of Management graduates, NONA Technologies develops water treatment technology that converts seawater to freshwater for industrial and domestic use.

NONA Technologies submitted a creative desalination solution for the LIFE’S GOOD AWARD. Devised in response to climate change and grounded on Ion Concentration Polarization (ICP) technologies, the solution is able to remove viruses, bacteria, salt and debris from water. The new innovation can be applied at a smaller scale than existing desalination technologies and offers the added benefits of higher energy efficiency, lower costs and lighter weight. As such, NONA Technologies’ creation could prove immensely useful in natural disasters or water shortages, providing affected communities with a reliable supply of drinkable water.

      At LG, innovation extends beyond technology – it’s about creating meaningful experiences that inspire change and shape the future.       Recently, over 50 Princeton University Korean language students visited LG Electronics North America’s headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The visit provided a firsthand look at how LG is pioneering the future through cutting-edge technologies, insightful discussions and hands-on learning experiences. 
      For some, LG College Day is more than just an educational visit – it’s a gateway to a future career. One former participant was so inspired during his visit that he later joined LG as a full-time employee, underscoring the program’s role in connecting top talent with real-world opportunities. 

      The visit began with an introductory session where students explored LG’s business strategy, technological advancements and global impact. A highlight of the session was a dynamic panel discussion featuring LG executives and industry experts, who shared valuable insights on career development, leadership and the future of technology. 

      Students then stepped into LG’s showroom, where they interacted with groundbreaking innovations such as the LG SIGNATURE OLED T – the world’s first wireless and transparent OLED TV – and the LG StanbyME, a portable wireless screen acclaimed for maximizing users’ on-the-go productivity. The OLED Flexible Signage display delivered an immersive visual experience that brought images to life with stunning clarity and realism. 
      Next, students explored LG’s Home Appliance showroom, where they witnessed AI-powered innovations that are transforming everyday life. From smart refrigerators that suggest optimal recipes to AI-driven washers that optimize laundry cycles, LG continues to set new standards for intelligent home solutions. 
      A visit to LG’s cutting-edge Virtual Studio offered a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the company’s global marketing campaigns. The studio, a high-tech production space for commercials and product photography, highlighted LG’s emphasis on storytelling and branding. 

      Students also gained insight into LG’s environmental and social initiatives, including the Endangered Species Series, the Pollinator Garden and LG’s LEED Platinum Certification – reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability. 
      Beyond technology and business insights, LG College Day provided students with an opportunity to engage with LG’s Human Resources team, exploring various career paths and business opportunities within the company. 
      Jung Kyu-hwang, CEO of LG Electronics North America, emphasized the importance of fostering connections with the younger generation: “By engaging with young people, especially Gen Z students, we’re not just showcasing our innovations – we’re building connections for the future.”

      Accessibility in technology transcends mere innovation; it is about making everyday life better for everyone. At CSUN AT 2025, LG participated as the first global home appliance company to showcase its universal approach to accessibility.

      The “CSUN Assistive Technology Conference,” organized by the Center on Disabilities at California State University Northridge, is recognized as the world’s largest event focused on assistive technology. Major global tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft, participate annually to introduce their new accessibility technologies and gain valuable insights.

      As the pioneering global home appliance company to exhibit at the CSUN conference, LG unveiled accessibility innovations designed to enable a “Better Life for All.” At the 40th annual CSUN conference in March, LG showcased smart home innovations, AI technologies and accessory devices aimed at helping consumers with disabilities and senior citizens use products more conveniently.

      For the U.S. consumer market, LG demonstrated various solutions that enhance user experiences through attachable accessories and software updates for home appliances and consumer electronics.

      The LG Comfort Kit, introduced in North America for the first time this year, was developed in response to user concerns. LG created several accessories to make appliances easier to operate, including easy handles for people with limited strength to open the laundry detergent drawer and washer and dryer doors, and an easy-to-use dial for washing machines. The company continues to expand the Comfort Kit lineup by listening to feedback from a variety of consumers, including those with mobility impairments, visual impairments, as well as children and seniors.

      Another highlight of the exhibition was a newly-developed commercial kiosk featuring height- adjustable capabilities and tactile keypads. This kiosk allows wheelchair users to easily adjust the screen height to their eye level. A new tactile keypad accessory designed to enhance accessibility for visually impaired consumers also was introduced at the conference.


      Complementing its technology demonstrations in the booth, LG hosted a half-day workshop addressing topics such as AI smart homes, universal design including comfort kits, and accessible kiosks. Discussions included new assistive technologies and ways to alleviate customer pain points to create more convenient environments. Workshop participants included accessibility stakeholders from the Shepherd Center, the University of Maryland, UC Berkeley, the American Council of the Blind and the National Center for Accessible Media, who all shared their expertise and insights on improving accessibility in products.

      According to LG Electronics ESG Strategy Head Justin Hong, LG’s role at CSUN 2025 exemplifies the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility for home appliance users and to realize its Better Life for All ESG vision. “Accessibility is at the heart of our innovation, driving us to push boundaries and exceed expectations,” he says. “It is particularly meaningful to showcase various products launching in North America as we continue our efforts to contribute to a Better Life for All with some of the easiest-to-use and most convenient products on the planet.”

      LG was excited to participate in CSUN AT for the first time and present its newest accessibility-focused solutions debuting in North America.       Company Offers Extensive Range of High-efficiency Heating Solutions for
      Diverse Residential and Commercial Needs

      SEOUL, March 17, 2025 — LG Electronics (LG) is presenting its latest heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions tailored for the European market at the International Trade Fair for Sanitation, Heating and Air (ISH) 2025, taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, from March 17-21. LG’s showcase features high-efficiency solutions optimized for both commercial and residential spaces, including the large-capacity Monobloc G Air-to-Water Heat Pump (AWHP). The comprehensive exhibit underscores the company’s commitment to electrification and decarbonization, as well as its focus on providing first-class performance, flexibility and ease-of-installation.
      Enhanced Energy Efficiency and Advanced Heating with the New Therma V R290
      Located at the entrance of LG’s exhibition booth, the Hero zone introduces visitors to the new Therma V R290 Monobloc. This impressive residential solution boasts excellent energy efficiency and a premium European design. Winner of a 2024 International Design Excellence Award and rated “Good” by the German consumer organization Stiftung Warentest, the new Therma V utilizes R290 refrigerant, which has a low Global Warming Potential of 3. Designed to reduce energy usage and environmental impact, LG’s solution harnesses heat from the air to reduce carbon emissions and achieve an A+++ energy rating.1
      Made to withstand Europe’s tough winter conditions, the new Therma V AWHP leverages LG’s proprietary scroll compressor to deliver exceptional energy efficiency and a strong, reliable performance. The positioning of the compressor at a lower-than-usual height within the unit itself contributes to the Therma V’s ability to function at 100 percent capacity, even at temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees Celsius. It also leads to improved energy savings and operational stability. With a noise level of just 50 A-weighted decibels in Low Noise Mode, the Therma V produces minimal vibrations, helping to create a relaxing and peaceful environment both inside and outside the home.2
      In the multi-residential and large-scale housing zone, LG is presenting the Monobloc G large capacity AWHP and the Cascade Control Unit. The energy-efficient Cascade system offers flexible scalability, allowing the addition of up to eight units to cope with increased heating demand. The Cascade provides multiple benefits for multi-family dwellings, including low-noise operation, a space-saving design and continuous operation via backup systems.
      Efficient Heating and Cooling Solutions for Modern Homes and Multi-Residential Buildings
      LG’s ISH exhibition includes a variety of residential heating solutions that have been purpose-built for European kitchens, laundry rooms and living areas. The company’s latest Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWH) with R290 refrigerant, which use electricity as well as energy from the air to heat water, offer higher efficiency than conventional electric or gas water heaters. Smart Grid ready, HPWHs can enhance energy efficiency by adjusting operation in response to electricity demand signals. Furthermore, to maximize suitability for a wider range of installation environments, LG’s water heaters are available in both floor-standing and wall-mounted types.
      The new DUALCOOL AI Air with AI DUAL Inverter provides optimized air conditioning by detecting the ambient temperature of a space and intelligently adjusting the set temperature and airflow direction and speed. The company offers three different DUALCOOL AI AIR indoor units with R290 refrigerant to suit any home, with each variant offering easy installation and maximum space efficiency.
      Advanced Commercial HVAC Solutions for Effective Energy Management
      Additionally, LG is introducing a range of cutting-edge commercial heating solutions at ISH. A standout among these is the LG Inverter Scroll Chiller – an energy-efficient system for heating (and cooling) commercial facilities. Equipped with twin inverter scroll compressors and plate-type heat exchangers, the LG Inverter Scroll Chiller offers a wide operating frequency range and excellent heat transfer efficiency. When integrated with LG’s Building Energy Control (BECON) CPM system, the chiller provides seamless control of all connected fan coil units and air conditioning systems. BECON CPM monitors and adjusts various control elements to maintain peak efficiency and allows users to track system status in real time. It even sends users helpful alerts if an issue arises, so that appropriate action can be taken to quickly remedy the situation. Set to launch in Europe, BECON CPM also employs LG’s advanced AI-based technology to prevent energy waste and to simplify control for system managers.
      One of the many highlights of LG’s booth is the R32 Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)-based integrated solution package. The LG Multi V i, an all-electric VRF solution, intelligently manages performance according to environmental changes and helps prevent unnecessary energy consumption. When connected to the Hydro Kit, the Multi V i supports floor heating and hot water supply while its compatibility with Air Handling Unit applications from various companies enables it to serve large warehouses and other specialized business-to-business environments. Along with exceptional scalability, the company’s all-electric system offers efficient management with convenient Smart Control features. Powered by LG’s advanced AI Engine, these features analyze the operational data of the Multi V i to improve indoor comfort and create significant energy savings.
      Also at ISH 2025, LG is introducing the LG All Stars program: a rewards program for HVAC installers that offers exclusive benefits, educational opportunities, continuous support and the chance to be a part of a growing professional network.       To deliver innovative heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions that are Ahead of the Expected, LG continues to push the boundaries of heat pump technology in cold climates. At AHR Expo 2025 in Orlando, Florida, the company showcased its energy-efficient solutions that enhance comfort while hosting a special roundtable on the Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research and its vision for the industry. Three LG representatives joined the consortium to bring their knowledge and insights to the table.

      As climate change continues to cause major disruption around the world, the need for high-efficiency heating and cooling systems for all temperatures has been rising. Steve Scarbrough, senior vice president and general manager of LG Air Conditioning Technologies USA, joined the panel to highlight the advantages of LG’s heat pump technology in extreme climates. LG offers a wide lineup of heat pump solutions, including water heaters, boasting its cutting-edge inverter heat pump technology. What’s more, with the introduction of a highly efficient, oil-free inverter centrifugal chiller, LG now supplies 259,000 RT of chilled water to one of the largest data centers in the world. “We are excited to bring new products to market that are customized for all kinds of environments from single small spaces to large-scale industry settings,” said Scarborough.

      Although heat pumps have traditionally been associated with warmer southern climates, LG’s introduction of its Inverter Compressor to the U.S. has allowed it to build a strong lineup of heat pumps that provide effective heating in cold climates. Moreover, LG has expanded its LGRED° (Reliable to Extreme Degrees) Heat Technology to more products, facilitating high-efficiency performance under more challenging conditions.

      LG has successfully constructed substantial networks in heat pump solutions by investing in research and development and strategic partnerships with key industry players. For example, LG established the Consortium for Advanced Heat Pump Research with the University of Alaska network in 2023 to conduct real-life research and testing on various types of heat pumps.

      Sunwoo Kim, professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, said the consortium focuses on minimizing thermal resistance in the outdoor unit’s heat exchanger to maximize heat pump efficiency. Researchers are also trying to uncover innovative ways to integrate heat pumps with existing fossil fuel boilers. “If we have a smart and well-designed hybrid system that optimally balances the heat pump with existing traditional systems, we could significantly reduce costs and carbon dioxide emissions,” said Kim. The University of Alaska’s cold climate heat pump labs in Anchorage opened last December, and is now testing heat pump applications in the real world.
      The partnership with the Universities has already borne fruit. For instance, the first joint project with the University of Alaska Fairbanks has been largely credited for the LG Residential Cold Climate Heat Pump, which won the 2025 AHR Innovation Award. “The consortium aims to become the major hub of research and education in cold climate heating systems,” said Getu Hailu, associate professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage and faculty advisor for ASHRAE and ASME.

      By constantly promoting deeper discussions to realize its vision for heat pump solutions, LG has once again demonstrated its unwavering dedication to breaking down barriers in cold climate heating while underscoring its status as the leading innovator of heat pumps.

Visitors can explore personalized “ambient solutions” that align with their unique lifestyles and tastes, and see how LG’s products can transform a living space into a chic café, a relaxing retreat or a premium personal cinema. In addition, the zone also features the MX platform, which expands the definition of home solutions by creating a new type of multipurpose space. Utilizing a modular package system, it integrates LG’s innovative appliance hardware and AI technologies to transform the vehicle cabin into a flexible area.
      Throughout the zone, visuals and ambient content are generated by EXAONE, LG AI Research’s multimodal AI model, creating dynamic atmospheres curated to individual preferences. Trained on 350 million license-free images, EXAONE can generate an infinite number of images with distinct moods. The images displayed in the zone are created using prompts such as “gentle breeze,” “orange summer view” and “cozy, serene atmosphere,” uniquely depicting city and countryside morning scenery in four seasons, resulting in images that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
      Curate Your Evening, Elevate Your Experience
      The Curate & Elevate (Upscale Home Living) zone offers an immersive lifestyle experience that combines AI tech with enduring design and customized luxury. This exclusive space demonstrates how intelligent technology and refined aesthetics can come together to elevate every moment at home. Highlighted within this zone are innovative display products like the LG Signature OLED T. Visitors can see the transparent OLED T showcased alongside iconic clear acrylic pieces from Kartell, a renowned premium furniture brand, introducing innovative user experiences and new possibilities for space curation.
      The zone also highlights the second-generation LG SIGNATURE lineup, including the brand-new LG SIGNATURE 4-Door French-Door refrigerator with a transparent OLED door panel, as well as the LG SIGNATURE Smart InstaView Over-the-Range Microwave and Slide-in Double Oven Induction Range, which pairs timeless design with state-of-the-art AI technology. With the famed Italian designer furniture company, Molteni&C, LG has crafted an exhibit that emphasizes LG SIGNATURE’s “Live Beyond” philosophy. Visitors can learn how the brand’s latest AI-equipped premium products elevate convenience and provide more personalization options than ever before.
      Entering the Night area of the zone, visitors will encounter the breathtaking kinetic media chandelier; an installation that boasts 28 units of the transparent LG Signature OLED T. When closed, it highlights the elegance of transparency through synchronized video and lighting; when open, it emphasizes the sleek, thin design of transparent OLED technology. Visitors will be wowed by mesmerizing visuals, including the colorful Cloud Bloom, Aquarium and stained-glass effects; all synchronized with dynamic lighting and all enhanced by AI assistance to deliver an immersive, 360-degree experience.
      The Dive & Vibe zone offers an entertaining, multisensory exploration of AI-powered sound and music. New 2025 xboom speakers on display employ advanced AI calibration technology to automatically adjust sound settings and recommend the best lighting mode according to the space and the mood of the music.
      Last but not least, the Escape & Immerse zone takes CES attendees on a journey of personalized content curation and optimal viewing experiences enabled by LG’s α11 AI processor and webOS platform. The zone is divided into an entry area and an experience area, with the latter designed to showcase the capabilities of the α11 and webOS. The entry area features a dramatic man cave atmosphere, where visitors will discover a ‘secret door’ to experience AI of LG TV, where a digital guide showcases the exciting features of the technology. Highlights include the AI-powered Magic Remote, Voice ID and the cinematic picture and sound quality delivered by α11 AI processor technology.
      Along with the latest smart life solutions, LG’s exhibition booth at CES 2025 showcases the company’s dedication to sustainability and corporate responsibility. Throughout the booth, visitors will find several trees symbolizing the company’s commitment to ESG. These include the Comfort Kit Tree, the Sustainable Exhibition History Tree, the Energy Tree, the Global Carbon Neutrality Tree and the Sustainable Cycle Tree, which together form a visual representation of LG’s vision for a sustainable future.
