Recently, LG offices in Vietnam and Thailand made significant contributions by donating various LG products to support local initiatives. In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year, or Tet, is a time of family reunions and shared experiences, with television playing a central role in these celebrations. To enhance the Tet experience for the people of Yen Bai Province, LG Vietnam donated 40 LG TVs to families who suffered significant losses during Typhoon Yagi. As part of its annual campaign, “Tet Nha la Tet Nhat” (Family Tet is the Best Tet), LG Vietnam extended support to 40 households facing severe hardships, including families of war veterans and those with meritorious services to the revolution, in the districts of Van Yen, Luc Yen and Tran Yen.

In Thailand, LG recently donated 50 LG gram laptops to the Thailand Collaboration for Education (TCFE) program, an initiative of the Yuvabadhana Foundation. This donation, valued at over 2,301,000 baht (USD 68,000), will benefit over 400 students at Nikomphimaisuksa School in Nakhon Ratchasima province and Piyabut School in Lopburi province, both of which lack adequate computer equipment for effective digital learning.
The donated laptops are high-performance, lightweight LG gram models equipped with Intel Core Ultra 5 Processors, making them ideal for modern AI software applications. Students in lower secondary school (Mathayom 1-3) will use these laptops to access digital curricula in science, mathematics and English. Upper secondary students (Mathayom 4-6) will leverage the laptops’ AI capabilities for advanced learning, including data analysis and enhanced comprehension.
The TCFE program aims to reduce educational inequality and promote sustainable education in Thailand by focusing on four key areas: educational accessibility, teaching and learning quality development, life skills and moral cultivation and nutrition support. LG’s laptop donation directly supports two of these areas: improving access to education by providing equipment to remote schools and enhancing teaching and learning quality by enabling digital curriculum implementation.
This donation reflects LG’s belief in the transformative power of AI in education and its commitment to ensuring all Thai youth have access to this technology. In alignment with its Better Life for All initiatives, LG is fostering sustainable growth in local communities around the world through the “LG Ambassador Challenge 2024,” which ran from February to October this year. Now in its 8th year, this initiative empowers local residents by bringing their ideas to life, recognizing that those who live in these challenging environments understand their needs best and how to address them with support.
The primary goal is to help locals achieve sustainable self-reliance by suggesting practical improvements tailored to their unique challenges, such as inadequate social facilities or poor educational standards. To assist them, LG collaborates on problem-solving projects designed to enhance their social and cultural living conditions.
To date, LG has implemented 76 successful projects in South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Peru, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Sri Lanka, significantly improving the quality of life for thousands of often-overlooked citizens around the globe.
This year’s program, held in Kenya, Peru, Bangladesh and the Philippines, successfully implemented 10 out of 377 submitted project proposals, evaluated based on their social impact and efficiency. In Bangladesh, a project focused on empowering women as a means of alleviating poverty. In the Philippines, a mobile visiting library was created to enhance access to books, providing invaluable knowledge to the community. In Kenya, an initiative was launched to improve IT education in rural areas, including Ntinyika primary school, equipping students with valuable IT skills for future success.
Notably, the “Atrapanieblas” project held in the Peruvian city of Lima was recognized as this year’s most impactful initiative. It introduced an ingenious solution to combat water scarcity in a coastal desert region characterized by dense fog and low annual rainfall. The project involved installing a fog capture network in the mountainous coastal area, converting fog and overnight water vapor into clean, drinkable water for 85 local households.
“I was unaware that the fog I wake up to every morning could be harnessed to improve our daily lives. I’m delighted that we had the opportunity to come together, brainstorm ideas that could benefit our community, and see LG bring it to fruition,” said Pomela, a participant from the affected area.
Meanwhile, LG is supporting other potentially life-changing initiatives, such as the Hope Village project, which aids housing for vulnerable groups, and the LG-KOICA Hope TVET College, which provides free vocational education to low-income youth.

As part of the brand’s sustainability efforts, this initiative sought to highlight the importance of taking action against Singapore’s growing marine plastic pollution problem while promoting the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – when dealing with used packaging.
By combining the company’s eco-conscious innovations with a community-driven effort, LG Singapore hopes this initiative will help foster a culture of environmental consciousness within consumers.
With the much-appreciated help of Green Nudge, over 100 LG Singapore employees collected 293 kilograms of trash – mainly plastic packaging, bottles and Styrofoam – from three sites across Singapore’s eastern coastline, which was then carefully processed for proper disposal.
To foster camaraderie among employees, LG Singapore organized eager volunteers into teams and promised an award to the group that collected the most trash. The winning team, which collected a total of 104 kilograms of trash in just one hour, received a small token of appreciation from Gerald Chun, managing director of LG Singapore.
The success of the beach cleanup highlights LG’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community involvement, with the revitalized beach serving as a powerful reminder of the impact collective action can have. Moving on to another vibrant part of Asia, in the spirit of Life’s Good, LG Taiwan hosted an event in September to inject positive change into the local community. Since 2009, LG Taiwan has been deeply committed to improving the standards of education in the nation’s rural areas, working alongside third-party organizations and public welfare institutions to inspire warmth and hope. This long-standing dedication was recently demonstrated through a collaboration with the Feng Chia University School of Architecture.
This involved LG Taiwan assisting Feng Chia University’s Book Hut Project to create an impactful after-school learning space for children living in the countryside. First, LG donated smart home appliances to meet their daily needs, with the local children taking an immediate liking to the LG TV’s advanced voice control features and its sheer size. LG also donated two washing machines that make everyday laundry easy and convenient, requiring only the press of the power and start buttons to operate.
Under the leadership of Jeong Yeon-kwan, managing director of LG Taiwan, a team of 23 LG employees joined student volunteers from Feng Chia University in Hualien to transform a building into an inspirational learning environment with a new lick of paint and various decorations.
In addition to getting hands-on in Hualien, LG Taiwan donated home appliances to the rural Nantou and Taitung regions to spread the power of education. Managing director Jeong showed teachers and children how each appliance works to ensure they received the full benefits. And to add a personal touch to their visit, LG volunteers prepared Korean snack packs for the children and student volunteers.
To support the transformation of its local community, LG East Africa collaborated with Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) to complete two local projects. These initiatives – in Kajiado County and Nairobi’s Huruma slums – were the winning entries of the 2024 LG Ambassador Challenge. Each received KES 1 million in funding to make an impact on local communities.
As a part of the first initiative in Kajiado County, LG East Africa took part in transforming Intinyika Primary School. The school, which has 180 students, was equipped with essential infrastructure, including a solar power system, water storage facilities and computers. These upgrades address critical needs, such as electricity, water and educational resources, significantly improving the learning environment for local students. LG is hopeful that the new equipment will benefit and improve the lives of local students, with the new computers enabling them to learn more about digital technologies in a more comfortable learning environment.
In Nairobi’s Huruma slums, LG East Africa provided aid to the Furaha Community Foundation to improve their physiotherapy center, which treats more than 30 children with disabilities. With the funds from the LG Ambassador Challenge, the center acquired essential equipment, including gym tools, to provide effective care and treatment.
Now in its fourth year, the LG Ambassador Challenge is part of LG East Africa’s social responsibility initiatives. The program aims to recognize and support groups that actively address pressing challenges within their communities. The 2024 edition saw 53 applications, with the winning projects standing out for their potential to create lasting change. To ensure the sustainability of these projects, KFHI will continue to provide customized monitoring and support. This includes regular visits, communication and oversight to maximize the impact and facilitate meaningful change within the communities.

LG OLED TV had a rendezvous with Hollywood experts. The meeting took place at Picture Shop, a post-production company located on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Since its establishment in 2016, Picture Shop has been responsible for the post-production of not only films but also original series for major streaming platforms. Through collaborations with colorists and sound engineers operating primarily in North America and the U.K., Picture Shop has cemented its position as a global leader in the industry.
The reason for LG OLED TV’s visit to Picture Shop in the fourth week of May was clear. Professionals in the field no longer limit themselves to theatrical settings. With audiences increasingly seeking comfortable viewing experiences at home, it is essential to ensure that images are refined for television as well. For these experts, LG OLED TV is the ultimate partner. Thanks to its vivid picture quality, supported by “Perfect Black,” many color grading studios already use LG OLED TV as their standard review monitor during post-production. With keen anticipation, colorists Walter Volpatto and John Daro; cinematographer and ASC associate member Tim Kang; Edu Grau, ASC, AEC; cinematographer Christopher Blauveldt; and Amy Vincent, ASC visited Picture Shop to review the new 2024 LG OLED TV.
The feature that undoubtedly captured the experts’ attention was “Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro.” This feature allows viewers adjust settings for screen brightness and detail to their preference using the remote control. LG’s proprietary “Affectionate Intelligence” (Affectionate AI) technology identifies the peak luminance of HDR content being played and preserves the brightness within the display’s maximum luminance limit according to the viewer’s preference. This allows viewers to customize the preservation details of the high grayscale (around of highlight), creating the desired picture quality. This way, LG OLED TV not only offers a better viewing environment but also provides the convenience of displaying the desired picture according to the user’s needs.
Cinematographer Edu Grau was impressed, noting, “Its precision and adjustability will be a significant benefit for viewers.”

Another aspect of the LG OLED TV panel that captivated the attendees was its reduction of light reflection and perfect black. Being a self-emissive display without the need for additional light sources, LG OLED TV maintains contrast under any lighting condition. With each self-lit pixel, the Pixel Dimming technology enables perfect black levels and detailed color expression. Colorist John Daro expressed satisfaction, saying, “I could experience very dark and extreme black,” with cinematographer Tim Kang agreeing, “LG is the best at rendering blacks.”
Delighted by the LG OLED TV panels’ ability to display brighter bright areas and darker dark areas, the attendees unanimously remarked, “It’s great to have a TV that allows us to enjoy the visuals as filmmakers intended, right in our homes.”

How did you feel about attending the roadshow?
I gained valuable insights. I was impressed by the many achievements of LG OLED TV, particularly how they addressed the issue of light reflection on the TV screen, which allows viewers to see dark parts of the image clearly. The Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro feature was also outstanding. Overall, LG OLED TV’s ‘perfect black’ enhances screen detail and tone while preserving highlights perfectly, which I appreciated.
What did you like about the Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro feature?
It’s great because it allows discerning viewers, including filmmakers, to watch content on TV without losing the image’s highlights and maintaining detail even in very bright scenes. I can’t wait to show this to my colleagues and directors I work with.
Do you have any recommendations for LG OLED TV settings for viewers watching movies at home?
I recommend turning on Filmmaker Mode when watching movies. It kills me to think of someone watching a film in HD mode with High Frame Rate, as it doesn’t properly convey the filmmakers’ intentions. Directors like Martin Scorsese still put a lot of thought into how their work is presented to the world, and so do I. That’s why I’m grateful for Filmmaker Mode. I hope all viewers will click that button to watch movies as the creators intended.
Which films would you recommend watching on LG OLED TVs?
Experiencing the rich colors and contrast of LG OLED makes me want to watch Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love. I also recommend Kes by Ken Loach, one of my favorite films, and Ida by Pawel Pawlikowski, which beautifully showcase the sharp contrast unique to black-and-white films, for watching on LG OLED TV. Birth by Jonathan Glazer, shot by cinematographer Harris Savides, ASC, is another film I’ve watched many times in theaters and on TV. It will truly shine on an LG OLED TV screen.

What are the strengths of LG OLED TV that you experienced at the roadshow?
One of the issues you might encounter when watching TV in a typical home environment is screen reflections caused by light sources. However, the LG OLED TV panel saw today almost eliminates these reflections, achieving the desired black even in environments with minimal light. This enhances the screen’s detail and contrast without losing color tones. It’s an excellent panel even when direct light is shining on it. If you want a cinematic experience at home but can’t have a full theater setup, LG OLED TV offers the closest experience. I have a 65-inch LG OLED TV, but seeing this makes me want to upgrade to a 90-inch for a more immersive experience.
How did the screen look with Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro applied?
As a professional, I was impressed with LG OLED TV’s Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro feature. We always think about how to make the screen look more elegant and impressive when the TV’s luminance signal is strong. With the Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro feature, viewers can adjust the screen’s brightness, allowing professionals to place the light exactly where they want it.
Is there another feature of LG OLED TV that you recommend for users?
Above all, I would recommend using Filmmaker Mode. It ensures the screen is well-calibrated, delivering images as the creators intended. Also, when watching movies on TV, instead of complete darkness, I suggest having a faint light to reduce eye strain. Enjoy LG OLED TV with an 80% dark gray background and a 5.1 surround system.
Which films would you recommend watching on LG OLED TVs?
I recommend the feature-length documentary Fathom, which I worked on as a colorist. This film follows whale researchers and is like a window overlooking the sea. It would be truly impressive to watch it on an LG OLED TV.
