SEOUL, Feb. 8, 2023 — LG Electronics (LG) has announced the launch of the new Multi V™ i, a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) solution equipped with the company’s highly evolved AI engine, in key global markets starting from Europe. Suitable for mid- to high-rise buildings, such as offices, schools, shopping malls, apartment buildings and hotels, the energy efficient Multi V i comes with a range of differentiated, smart features that help reduce energy consumption and deliver a more comfortable indoor environment – and a quieter outdoor environment – all-year-round.

AI Smart Care

The Multi V i’s sophisticated AI engine enables AI Smart Care, which leverages spatial and situational learning to optimize operation such as adjusting cooling or heating power according to several variables, including the number of people in the room, humidity levels as well as indoor and outside ambient temperature. This enables the product to improve energy savings by up to 24.7 percent.1 Meanwhile, AI Indoor Space Care helps maintain a steady temperature and reduce energy consumption by automatically turning on indoor units in occupied areas and turning them off in unoccupied areas.

AI Energy Management

Another efficiency-focused feature, AI Energy Management allows users to set energy consumption targets, which can help to lower the overall power usage of the Multi V i.

Noise Target Control

The Multi V i also helps to enhance the comfort of those living in neighboring buildings or houses. Users can set an operational noise limit (from 50 to 70 decibels2) in advance to ensure that the sound produced by the outdoor unit does not exceed the level of volume they’ve specified.

Weather Information Interlocking Control

Providing smart performance and convenience, the Weather Information Interlocking Control feature of LG’s VRF solution automatically selects custom operation modes – including Automatic Pre-heating and Automatic Snow Removal – based on the weather conditions.3 Automatic Pre-heating allows users to enjoy a warm indoor environment even on the coldest days of the year by automatically heating the room in advance, while Automatic Snow Removal prevents snow from accumulating and freezing on the outdoor unit.

Powerful Performance

Boasting powerful, dependable performance even in extreme weather conditions, the Multi V i has surpassed its predecessor, the Multi V 5, to become the most energy efficient LG VRF solution yet.4 The unit’s newly designed biomimetic fan and an enhanced air-flow path combine to reduce fan-motor power consumption,5 resulting in improved energy savings. LG’s outstanding, new model can provide fresh, comfortable indoor air in any season, working at full cooling capacity up to 43 degrees Celsius,6 and full heating capacity in temperatures as low as negative 10 degrees Celsius.7

AI Smart Up

The Multi V i’s AI engine powers a variety of smart features, such as Auto Tuning and Remote Upgrade, which help to improve convenience and the overall user experience. The Auto Tuning system automatically tunes the compressor and motor during initial installation or when they need replacing, allowing for faster and easier setup and servicing. Meanwhile, with the Remote Upgrade system, LG’s VRF solution can be automatically updated to the latest software version without an on-site service visit. Furthermore, the Multi V i offers AI Smart Diagnosis, which provides automated system analysis and easy-to-read status reports to help reduce service times and boost reliability.

“Boasting our outstanding AI engine, the new Multi V i offers enhanced energy-savings, a more pleasant indoor environment and exceptional convenience,” said James Lee, head of the Air Solution Business Unit at LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG will continue to deliver complete air solutions leveraging its cutting-edge AI and industry-leading HVAC technologies.”

LGEDV Emerges as Strategic R&D Hub, Expanding Research Portfolio
to Automotive Components, webOS and Home Appliances

SEOUL, Nov. 5, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) is strengthening its research and development (R&D) capabilities in Vietnam, expanding its local research program into areas including vehicle components, the webOS platform and home appliances.
This year, LG’s Vietnamese R&D subsidiary, LG Electronics Development Vietnam (LGEDV), has integrated living, kitchen and air solutions – all considered core products – into its software development and verification portfolio.
LG established its local R&D network in Vietnam in 2016 with the opening of the R&D Center in Hanoi. Growing its on-the-ground capabilities, the company set up two additional R&D branch offices in Haiphong and Da Nang in 2020. Last year, LG reorganized its Vietnamese research structure, bringing the VS R&D Center under the auspices of LGEDV, which has now become one of the company’s key research institutes in Southeast Asia.
LGEDV primarily focuses on software development and verification for LG’s In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems, which are central to the company’s strong performance in the B2B mobility solutions sector. The IVI business, which covers telematics, Audio Video Navigation (AVN) and clusters, accounts for more than 50 percent of all revenue generated by LG’s vehicle component solutions business. In addition to IVI systems, LGEDV has been involved in the development of the webOS platform since 2022, and has expanded its scope to include home appliances this year.
LG is continuously strengthening its R&D competencies in Vietnam through various recruitment and talent development initiatives, including in-house training programs led by experts from LG headquarters. The company has successfully attracted and nurtured talented individuals from Vietnam’s young, well-educated population.
Vietnam’s highly-skilled R&D workforce continues to grow, supported by the government’s aggressive R&D talent development strategies, which center on the cultivation of ICT talent at Hanoi National University. According to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office, the country’s population exceeded 100 million last year, with people under the age of 40 accounting for approximately 60 percent of the total populace.
Indicative of the caliber of Vietnam-educated developers, five out of ten coding experts selected by LG last year were from LGEDV. Huynh Tan Y, a researcher with LGEDV, won the LG Coding Competition at the LG Software Developer Conference (SDC) 2023, which involved around 100 developers from all across the LG Group.
LGEDV currently employs around 1,100 research staff, with plans to increase this figure to over 1,200 by the end of the year. A testament to LG’s effectiveness in the area of R&D recruitment and talent development, the company’s rapidly-growing Vietnamese R&D workforce numbered only 200 as recently as 2019.
LG is building a global system of close R&D cooperation, with Korea at its center, and aims to further strengthen its capabilities in product development and technology research.
The company maintains research institutes and development teams under each of its business units, with the CTO division developing core technologies from a mid to long-term perspective. In Korea, LG has R&D arms in Seocho, Yangjae, Gasan, Incheon, Changwon and Magok, while internationally, it operates 22 research institutes spanning North America, Europe, Japan, India and Vietnam. These institutes focus on global R&D activities and business responses geared toward identifying future growth engines.
Along with world-class R&D centers, LG’s Vietnam operations encompass manufacturing facilities in Haiphong, producing washing machines, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and IVI products, as well as a sales subsidiary in Hanoi.

      Performance With Impressive Energy Savings

SEOUL, Sep. 2 2024 — At IFA 2024, LG Electronics (LG) is set to unveil its latest lineup of home appliances boasting industry-leading energy efficiency. Designed in response to the European Union’s ongoing efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and aligned with the REPowerEU plan to reduce EU member countries’ dependency on fossil fuels, the new appliances leverage LG’s advanced core technologies to provide superb performance with reduced power consumption.
Industry-Leading Energy Efficiency with AI-Enhanced Laundry Solutions
LG’s latest washing machine and dryer set new standards for energy efficiency. The washing machine is able to perform a new drum motion that helps deliver clean laundry while minimizing the energy consumption of its Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive (AI DD) motor. Additionally, LG’s new washing machine comes with a Microplastic Care cycle that reduces the shedding of microplastics from laundry,2 as well as the ezDispense feature, which automatically dispenses the right amount of detergent for each load.
Meanwhile, the efficient, new dryer has an A+++-26 percent energy rating.3 Both of LG’s latest laundry appliances are equipped with AI-driven innovations; the washing machine’s AI DD motor and AI Wash feature offer enhanced fabric-sensing capabilities and strong performance, while the dryer’s AI Dry provides accurate moisture detection and optimal drying for a range of different materials and laundry items. The washing machine can also automatically set cycle and temperature options based on usage patterns and change the order in which cycles are displayed on the control panel (according to usage-frequency) for a more convenient user experience.
Refrigerators with High Efficiency and Premium Design
Offering the lowest energy consumption of any refrigerator currently on the market, the new LG bottom-freezer refrigerator has an A-25 percent energy rating4 and brings style to the kitchen with its premium flat door design. In addition, the new model generates only 29dB during operation for a more peaceful kitchen environment. To give European customers greater choice, LG is expanding its line of highly efficient refrigerators, introducing a large capacity side-by-side model5 in addition to the new bottom-freezer. The new side-by-side refrigerator offers convenient features, such as the company’s unique Craft Ice spherical-ice maker, and easy hygiene management with UVnano technology.
      Convenient and Efficient Kitchen Solution
Along with A++ energy efficiency,6 LG’s new 60-centimeter (24-inch) built-in InstaView oven presents a variety of cutting-edge features and AI technologies to elevate the culinary experience. The oven provides a total of 80 Auto Cook modes, and, with Gourmet AI, can identify the dish being cooked through its built-in camera, and automatically select the appropriate cooking mode from a database of 30 recipes. Making life in the kitchen that much easier, LG’s InstaView technology lets users check on their meal’s progress without even having to open the door, helping to preserve the temperature inside the oven and prevent energy waste.
Incorporating the company’s power-saving Inverter Direct Drive Motor, the new LG QuadWash dishwasher has an energy efficiency rating of A-20 percent.7 The dishwasher also enhances convenience with its Side Rack and 3rd Rack options, offering users the loading flexibility to accommodate a variety of different kitchenware.
“LG’s latest appliances meet growing European demand for energy efficient home solutions while simultaneously delivering superior performance and a more convenient life,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We will continue to leverage our advanced core technologies, including inverter and component solutions, to deliver an expanded lineup of appliances with industry-leading energy efficiency.”
Visitors to LG’s booth (Hall 18, Messe Berlin) at IFA 2024 from September 6-10 can explore the company’s latest high-efficiency products for a more sustainable life.
